If Natsume and Erika accompanied Satoshi, instead of Kasumi and Takeshi in original series?

why y’all always have to use Japanese names as if we all know who you’re talking about...just say sabrina

Some people grew up with different languages. I grew up playing a fair number of games in Japanese but use English names when talking to people in English for convenience. I imagine OP watches the Japanese dub of the anime or a subtitled version of that, thus the Japanese names

Eh I prefer Misty and Brock. They were pretty entertaining as main characters back in the OS. I dont think Erika and Sabrina would have worked as well as Misty and Brock did.

I agree for the most part, although now that I think about it Erika has a rather amusing quirk in the games where she tends to snooze a lot judging by some of her dialogue, which could've been an amusing gag if she had been a cast member.

People can use whatever names they want. Searching something isn't a long or gruelling task.
Yet people make out that it's a tedious task 'cause they do it multiple times.
And to further illustrate your point, when I discuss the Yugioh anime, I use Japanese names for characters from Zexal-onwards as that's when I watched the Japanese version from the get go. The other series I watched dubbed, except for the episodes that were skipped from GX and 5Ds, so for those series, I use the English names.

I don't understand the complaints about the usage of Japanese names in this section when even the episode discussion threads here use Japanese names in their titles and summaries, yet nobody ever complains about those.

I'm pretty sure we're supposed to use the English names once we learn them. It doesn't help in this case that Erika's name is identical so it looks like a random switch to English at the end.

i dont think ash would ever be allowed to travel with 2 girls. you always would have had to have him travel with a girl and a guy and if we are talking other gymn leaders thats just not possible. can we really picture him traveling with blaine, koga or lt.surge?

sabrine could have been interesting but erika wouldnt have worked. for one she didnt like ash and for the other they made her arrogant in the anime and ash simply didnt get along with her type

Erika wasn't arrogant. She accepted Ash challenge even though he'd insulted her products (kicking him out of the a tore was understandable). It was her Gym Trainers who tried to keep Ash out of her Gym.

she also said that the battle with ash should be easy and said that ash didnt stand a chance against her

Just like every other Gym Leader did. Brock, Misty, Lt. Surge, Sabrina, they ALL did that. Most of them were right, too.

Can we please get the older, old forum back?
I'm in the camp that's not into hent...

Wait, that wasn't the discussion?

It would always be boy, boy, girl. It all started as a shonen adventure.

Brock, might be bland in the games (and they could've taken liberties and worked in a familiar relation to Bruno) - but Lt.Surge with Raichu wouldn't work, Mad Scientist Blaine wouldn't work and Koga wouldn't mesh well with such a specific profession. Don't get me started on Giovanni.

The girls had options. But out of the three, it is quite obvious that as part of a group - Moisty would be the obvious pick. For one, she's young and reckless (goes off on dates and such). Second, it's a benefit that she was the second gymleader, which meant they could introduce her sooner without it getting weird. Third, she doesn't run around with a whip ingame. So the choice boils down to Misty (who is a suitable pick due to several reasons) or Erika, who's basically just pretty bland and has no characteristics outside of flowerdressing and being quiet and tender?

For a shonen kids show.. the choice was OBVIOUS.

They just chose the first two Gym leaders in the games. It’s no big mystery. In Johto they could have theoretically went with Whitney and Morty though, but back then replacing characters wasn’t well received.

I can't imagine him traveling with Katsura since he was an old man, but at least Erika and Natsume were younger and closer to Satoshi's age judging by their appearances, so they would've made more sense than Katsura or Matis joining the cast.

Falkner would have been a good choice then.

I just can't picture Ash travelling with a Ghost-type specialist in the times where only two Ghost type Pokémon existed.

Considering that Takeshi hardly captured Rock-types in general despite that being his type specialty, I think that Matsuba could've still been in the cast in Jouto and could've simply caught non-Ghost Pokemon.
