I would definitely have Ash trade away some of his Tauros. He could get some real powerhouses that way and could actually do some trading (and trade evolution) which is a fairly big part of the games.

Pokemon Advance Redux

A sequel series. Instead of Ash, a new protagonist based off Brendan is introduced-Ken(from Ken Sugomori, like how Ash is Satoshi of Satoshi Tajiri). This is because Ash's character development has become full circle, so a new audience surrogate is needed. Brendan is driven to beat his father Norman, and is partly used to introduce new game mechanics like abilities. May is unchanged. Wally is both a rival and companion, who's knowledge of Pokemon functions as the Brock equivalent. Max is pushed to the side. Their Pokemon?

Brendan's Pokemon
Slakoth-Vigoroth: The starter Pokemon of Brendan, as a gift for Brendan. What was planned ended up escape. They start off antagonistic, but over time they become friends. It evolves to help him out. Vigoroth refuses to evolve because it doesn't like Slaking's laziness
Plusle: Cute Pikaclones generally appear
Corphish: Same as canon

Wally's Pokemon
Ralts: As with the game, his starter
Zizagoon: Eh
Treecko: Its the same as Ash's in the canon

May
So far identical

AG: Corphish evolves to Crawdaunt and Ash uses him and Sceptile against Tate and Liza in a glorious Bash Brothers Tag Team.

I have a few fun idea's for kanto and the orange Islands:

-Ash would have captured a rhyhorn in "in the pink".

-Primeape would have been Ash's official sixth kanto pokemon.

-There would have been more Island badges, which Ash won by official battles.

-Orange Islands would have lasted two seasons, since it was so good.

-Snorlax would never be caught, and rhydon would be Ash's secondary power-house.

- I would've let Ash become a Pokemon Master in DP.

- I would've had Brock become a Pokemon Breeder in AG.

- I would've had TR become heroes and take down Giovanni and TR in AG.

- I would've had the characters age and actually get older.

- I would've let 4Kids keep the Pokemon dub rights, and continue to do the English dub for the remainder of its run: the only things I would've changed with their dub would've been to have no editing and more JPN BGM retained.

- I would've had Misty change her goal to becoming a Pokemon Master like Ash, and have her do so in AG: I would've also kept Misty in the AG group.

- I would've had less filler episodes in Johto and Sinnoh.

I think Misty would have even gotten worse off than she was in Johto if she had the same goal as Ash and if she stayed on the cast in AG.

I agree 100% for Johto, but in Sinnoh there wasn't much filler at all, even that year long gap had alot of stuff going on during it, most of it wasn't even filler.

100% Agreed, if anything she could've dragged the group down since there's not a clear way to show off her goal IMO. I think the 4-person group is fine, adding another one lead to some characters becoming background since they'd have to balance Ash, May, Max, Brock, Misty, and TR.

Well the fillers that were in DP,were very bad IMO. But cutting down the fillers in Johto would also be a good idea IMO.

I wouldn't be sure about that. This point would have hold weight if it wasnt for fact that Misty was treated great imo in late Johto Master Quest, chronicles and Hoenn appearances brimming with rich,tomboyish, playful characterization. She was full of life, interesting quirks, competitive flare and nicely matured in more responsible, outgoing, badass person which knew how to take care of things on her own. There was more strength, passion and focus on her pokemon, battle skills and own story. Gaining more identity and solid role.

Way writers handled other characters dont translate in how would Misty be handled. Because it largely depends on someone personality, story, compatibility with new characters and plots, background and role he is put in to determine in what direction writers would take him forward.

When assuming how would Misty be handled in case of longer stay, center of attention should be gathered on plots available for her character, personality and how flexible she was to be infiltrated in new generations. Misty could very likely end up getting treatment Clemont, May, Dawn, characters like Lyra, N from BW2 or Korrina for example received.

We have no reliable way of knowing. Each saga has its ups and downs, but i definitely think that anime would have benefited more as well character story if Misty was allowed to stay for one more generation at very least.

Hoenn was filled with water themes allowing to do many cool things with Misty character. Wallace, Juan which are powrrful water experts, villains like Team Aqua, legendary pokemon Kyogre, even 9th movie about Manaphy prince of sea were all great opportunities to advance Misty character and take her in many cool new dventures.
I also felt Whirl Cup was good start exploring on mysteries about water pokemon with sea priestess Maya and prof. Elm talking about Alpha Omega of water pokemon title and sea heroes(in Japanese convoluted form of water master).

But follow up didn't happen because Misty was replaced sadly with writers not having reason to break new grounds with it since no one in main cast would benefit from it or was water specialist like Misty was.
But if she stayed for Hoenn given how region was filled with oceans, lakes, rivers etc would provide more than enough places to create tournaments utilizing water specie in entirely new way and define better what water master career involves. Concurently they could build character toward ending possibly as E4 member apprentice in training since they are most powerful mono specialists in world. Elaborating on connection between type masters and E4 trainers.

I agree with PokemonNation2000, Hoenn was perfect region for Misty both character and storywise with writers wasting on this opportunity.

If she stayed for AG, I wouldn't want her to have the same exact goal as Ash as it would be boring imo. It's pretty much the same reason as why none of the female companions don't do gyms alongside with Ash. If she stayed for AG, I'd rather they expanded more on her own water Pokemon master goal, as long as it didn't interfere with May's character development.

I don't think that Misty in Hoenn would work because Team Aqua and Magma wasn't in the anime to much anyway. Also Misty might get overshadow by Ash and May because of the Pokemon contest and Gym battle goal.

To p96822;
If Misty stayed for Hoenn we would have entirely different ball game there though. We don't even know if May would join Ash in case Misty continued, and in case she would joined. There exists possibility of Brock or Max not being in AG cast to make room for two females in main group(since i sincerely doubt writers woukd go with 5 person group).

Also its not just whole villain arc of Team Aqua, Magma plot with Kyogre tied into main plot as one of ways to progress Misty character in Hoenn.

There were several water specialists and top class water trainers like Juan and Wallace over who she would be nervous and extatic over meeting teaching her how to become better trainer.

Ton of new, diverse water pokemon and wide, more improved moveset she could use as type specialist. Like Gorebyss, Phinneon, Sealeo or even Milotic giving her Hoenn powerhouse in team.

Break new grounds from Whirl Cup in Hoenn entering future events through which water master career could be progressed , do more with her pokemon team and learn how to overcome their flaws(like developing better defense to types like electric or grass type).
Creation of Surskit coming from Hoenn was another reason going in Misty favor for potential growth being half bug, half water causing struggling and hesitation within character with her despise for crawly like bugs but big love and care for water pokemon resulting in conflict. Having to face it and learn to overcome making massive step forward as person and trainer toward becoming true water expert. Hell even whole 9th movie screamed water everywhere featuring water legendary pokemon Manaphy as mentioned before.

Along with bringing new light to this show by having two girls in main cast for first time, assuming May would still join. I believe Misty and May together could had brought great dynamic in cast, and have chance to create closer bond as friends. Developing stronger relationship with May helping her to become better trainer reminding Misty herself of her younger days when she was naive and just starting out too.

Resulting in girly talks, moments of annoyance, support etc. Hell knowing May bubbly nature i could totally see her talking Misty in trying contests herself. With dressing up and appeals making her angered, skeptic and embarassed due to being tomboy having trouble in synchronizing her pokemon to do proper appeal performance. Delivering lot of comedy and fun moments.

Whenever i think of any future saga which would been beneficial for Misty storyline, dreams and plots i sincerely think Hoenn was one of them without any doubt.

When we measure amount of gyms and contests May/Ash entered in Hoenn with Grand Festival and Evergrande league conference included, number reaches roughly 35 to 40 episodes in region which lasted for 131 episodes not counting Battle Frontier.

Leaving us with 91 episode thus leaving more than enough episodes and screen time to have Misty develop, advance as character and play prominent role in Hoenn. So danger of Misty doing "jacksquat" is completely ungrounded, especially when from Master Quest and onwards Misty spotlight significantly increased receiving more battling, development and focus which would likely continued at same pace in case of continuing to next region.

I think that the principle problem with Misty's character was that her goal was too ill-defined. OK, so we knew that her goal was to become a great water pokemon trainer, but the way to achieve that was never really established. Ash wants to be a Pokemon Master and so challenges gyms and then the league, May and Dawn want to become Top Coordinators and so compete in contests and the Grand Festival. Cilan wanted to be an A Class Conniseur (sp?) and so studied pokemon.
Even Brocks goal of being a breeder was defined in the form of Suzie and the other breeders, and he produced homemade pokemon food and help the groups medicines and stuff.
For Misty, the "how" of her goal was never clear - does catching and raising many water types get her the title of Water Type Expert? Would winning the Whirl Cup do it? How about her becoming a Gym Leader?
With Misty and Iris, we've had two type specialists in the cast, but how to become an expert in a type has never been explained to a satisfying degree.

Personally I would have loved for Misty to have joined Ash and May in Hoenn instead of Brock, but her goal had been too vague for too long to suddenly redefine it so they dropped her for May.

Misty dream of becoming water master was left on large note vague and unexplained, but i still think from what was showed there were provided actual steps someone would need to accomplish to come close toward it as well connections to higher trainer class, opening ground for more substantial progression coming out of it. For once theory of "gym leader=type master" is completely false since Misty was gym leader before traveling with Ash. She unwillingly went back to gym and one type master term never showed to have any even slight connection to this occupation.

Likewise through Whirl islands arc and E4 being labelled as one type masteres in games, but on some occasions in anime too(like Lance and Lorelei) being strongest mono trainers in world, only further proved how Misty career involved reaching much higher level of expertize and recognition than gym leaders are.

Based on what was brought up in original series Misty always said she strives to become strongest water trainer in world(aka water master) being similar to Ash goal of pokemon master requiring traveling,meet strong trainers and learn about pokemon in wild along with advancing it through tournaments/competitions. In learning how to be true expert of water pokemon, know their ins and outs, learn how to connect on deep level functioning as one( sea priest Maya mentioned during Whirl Islands water heroes(in Japanese version referred as convoluted form of water master it meant people who knew how to understand hearts of water pokemon communicating with them and being like one)., As well involving to extract true potential of water pokemon on surface overcoming their flaws.

Through course of original series judging by Misty talks about wanting to become strongest water trainer and idolizing Lorelei it can be with good certaintity make inference how her quest of becoming master involves reaching E4 level of power being best mono trainers in world. Whirl Cup further showed going by prof. Elm and sea priest Maya how there exists prestige water events you need to enter and obtain erving as steps which bring you closer toward title of water master( winner gets title Alpha Omega of water being one of tasks water masters from past achieved) and netting ticket to prove your worth, learn about more effective techniques and get recognized by other trainers worldwide.

Episodes like "Around the Whirlpool", "Dueling Heroes" or "Perfect duel" touched this revealing how there exist specific tasks to conquer like coordinators do with contests.

So how could have this been developed in more defined goal?

For once since Hoenn bursted with water themes, writers could have created chain of competitions where water trainers and their pokemon are use in different way. Expanding on what they brought up with Whirl Cup breaking new grounds with it.

Such as water tournaments where you have to innovate and use aquatic surface in best possible way turning opponent advantage into his disadvantage. Depending on what kind of water type you use(aquatic, amphibian, half flying)taking advantage of that and trying to outsmart opponent.

Underwater battles to test out trainers adaptability to new, unfamiliar situations and how resourceful you are.

Water racing filled with obstacles like rocks, whirls etc where your intelligence, thrust existing between you and pokemon as well agility is tested using pokemon attacks to slow down opponent and clear patz toward victory.

This would provide enough variety to prevent staleness with each new challenge offering something new on table, with Misty progression as water trainer, connection towater pokemon and knowledge being monitored and evaluated by other water experts and authorities like sea priestess Maya was with each new win bringing you closer toward water master title.

Another alternative lied in taking advantage of Misty idolizing E4 Lorelei both in anime and games trying to become first E4 female member of water pokemon in history. Traveling through Hoenn to become stronger trainer, enter tournaments, battle evaluators from league committee which determine your creativity, strength of thrust, understanding and teamwork between you and pokemon. How innovative you are and if you have what it takes to reach higher spheres of battling and using your pokemon in more sophisticated way adaoting to every type hes facing achieving together perfect synchronization.etc would in reality be only further progrss made toward her ultimate goal of becoming water master. Filling her only with extra motivation and energy to better herserlf, devcelop more innovative battle style and learn how to use her pokemon productively(like Psyduck with who there exist ton of work to be done, was evidenced with Misty in chronicles showing lack of authority and somewhat patience due to at times impulsive, headstrong nature quickly giving up because duck is well special and hard to teach it anything). But Politoad somewhat too being more interested in cheering than battling.

With how well results Misty achieved in battling special examinators and in what light she and her pokemoln were showed determining if she would be taken in consideration to become E4 member Lorelei or Wallace apprentice. Teaching her secrets about water types and how to truly master them.

Interesting thing is how its still not late to make storyline out of it with Misty making big step forward in her dream of mastering water type thanks to existence of E4 Siebold(first pute water E4 trainer)in Kalos.

Writers definitely started to define Misty water master goal more in Johto. Especially with Whirl islands. Introducing backstory around it, mysteries and tasks, which simply never got chance to be more cleared up and give on table struictured, organized storyline to show further progression. Since Misty was planned to end up replaced quickly afterwards.

And reason behind this wasn't so much impracticality of Misty story and dreams. But more so drop in ratings during Johto with staff trying to mix things up by changing one main character, as well give new female fanservice to their audience.

Move which caused mixed reactions and proved to be unpopular based on backlash which followed afterwards.

But in case of staying thanks to so many water themes in Hoenn as well writers soiling ground with Whirl islands and connection between Misty career and E4 position there existed more than enough material to define this goal better and have character make notable steps forward in accomplishing it if you ask me.

So after watching BW, I thought many changes could of been made to the series.

- BW1 - Not have Ash regressed to such a god awful, unforgivable amount.
- BW1 - I would of removed Iris as the writers basically did nothing with her. I mean she had some of her moments with connections of Dragons, and until she gained her Dragonite and had little emotional development. Finally decided to become a dragon master tons of episodes later. I would replace her with Hilda/White with the same goal as Ash, also looking up to him.
- BW1 - Would of made Team Plasma and N show up throughout season one like they did with Advance Generation, and have them defeated in S1 and not make Team Rocket the main focus, they had theirs in Kanto.
- BW1 - Would of removed the following rivals, Stephan, Cameron, Georgia and Trip. BW had too many damn rivals, and rivals who were rivals of the other characters rivals. I would of just kept it nice and simple, would of kept the following; Virgil but make him appear way before the league building his character up, Bianca I find her to be quite funny and Burgundy for comic relief.
- BW1 - Not make Jessie, James and Meowth serious, would of kept them as comic relief characters
- BW1 - Have a filler episode before BW2 of a different Victini appearing as there always seems to be more than one of the same legendary in the anime for some reason.
- BW2 - I would make Hugh often appear and make him appear as Ash's first rival that would also help him in defeating Neo Team Plasma, as Hugh had a big role in BW2 games with NTP
- BW2 - Have Virgil make his first appearance
- BW2 - Have Neo Team Plasma and the Shadow Triad appear throughout BW2 as I really didn't like it when they left it after the Unova League
- BW2 - Have N travel time from time with Ash and the crew
- BW2 - Have Ash, N and Detective Looker defeat Ghetsis and Black and/or White Kyurem, while Hugh, Hilda, Cilan, Jessie, James and Meowth defeat Neo Team Plasma and Colress.
- BW3 - have Ash encounter all the Elite four rather than just one, and battle with all of them but only to lose but giving Ash some great advice on battling.
- BW3 - Have Ash and Hilda collect the rest of their Badges and enter the Unova league.
- BW3 - Have a few filler episodes of Ash and Hilda training against each other before the start of the Unova League
- BW3 - Have Hilda first go against Bianca in top 16, but lose to Hugh in top 8, while Ash faces against Hugh in top 4 but loses to Virgil coming in Top 2 in the Unova league.
- BW3 - Have some filler episodes before the start of the greatest season 4 which everyone will love! Yes you know it! Its the World Tournament!
- BW4- Ash, Cilan and Hilda travels to Aspertia Gym where they battle Cheren, after their battle Cheren tells them about the World Tournament to take place.
- BW4 - Filler Episode of Team Rocket trying to catch Pikachu again
- BW4- Have all old characters appear such as Misty, Brock, May, Gary Oak, Dawn, Paul, Barry, Bianca, Hugh and enter the World Tournament
- BW4 - Have the World Tournament last 26 ~ 35 episodes
- BW4 - Have Ash win the whole thing but barely by a hair.
- BW4 - Have another episode of Hilda figuring out what other region to try out, while Cilan decides to travel to Kanto region.
- BW4 Finale - Have the last episodes with their goodbyes and have Ash go off to travel to the next region, the Kalos region (XY).

There we go! Yeah made quite the change here~ Didn't really enjoy the BW sage very much so If I was in charge this is what I would of made BW to be.

Here is what I would do with Kalos that we have right now.
First off have team rocket leave after BW and have Team Flare and some sort of Hunter J anime exclusive antagonist get some good focus instead and not shown in every episode just a good amount and have a few archs throughout the saga.
Have Serena act like how she was before she entered the group all of the time. Also allow her to do more things such as her actually entering a Rhyhorn race, her being the one to challenge the battle chateau where she would have her first battle, try out pokemon styling with Furfrou, do pokevision, enter a baking competition that would require the trainer and pokemon to work in sync and battle Millie, have her be the one to battle the princess in the snorlax episode, try out a gym or sky battle, do the second pokevison, try out a pokemon contest and ending up as a pokemon idol which works sort of like the pokestar studios where trainers would compete in movie battles and have to show off them and their pokemon while providing a great show and actually win the battle. Their would be medals won after a competition that after winning a specific amount they would be able to enter a grand festival competition where their skills would be put to the test and do their best to win the title of supreme idol. Serena would be rivals with Millie, Shauna, Calem and Ellie. Her team at the end of the saga would be: Braxien/Delphox, Pancham, Swampert, Furfrou, Noibat, Florges.
Next Clemont would have an active goal based on super training that would consist of him having to invent machines to help out his pokemon get stronger for competitions such as races, triathlons, battle competitions and inventing contests scattered across kalos in which a large competition would happen at the end of the saga. Because of the added focus added to Clemont and Serena I would have to get rid of Bonnie to make room. Clemont would be rivals with Trevor, an anime exclusive character, and later Emma.
His team at the end would be: Chesnaught, Bunelby, Helioptile(who he would catch as a Heliosk), Manetric, Flaafy

Ash would hog less screentime and would leave at the end of the saga having won the pokemon league and we are given a bit more information about what being a pokemon master really is and we get a nice send off with him seeing him get closer to his dream and even get some kind of flash cut to the future.
He would be rivals with Sanpei, Tierno, another anime exclusive rival and later it would turn out that Alex competes in the pokemon league which we would be given slight hints about through out the saga. Ash would use a lot of his reserves and team members in the final league and would use strategies such as he used when he was competent in sinnoh which would give him a believable win.
His final team would be Pikachu(who relearns volt tackle or learns wild charge), Greninja, Talonflame, Hawluencha, Phantump, Carbink

Also this saga would last as long as DP did but have less filler and do it's best to develop it's characters as best as it could.

Changes in Pokemon Teams

Ash's changed team

Kanto:
* Squirtle-Wartortle: Could've evolved to denote its power in the Squirtle Squad
* Primeape: Ash would have it in reserve like Charizard
* Haunter-Gengar: Sabrina would return Haunter to Ash

Johto:
* Larvitar: Would've stayed with Ash under permission of its mother. Ash would store Larvitar with momma when not part of the team. Would've become Pupitar
* Quilava-Typhlosion: Not only would it evolve earlier, but get over its awkard teenage stage
* Eevee-Espeon: It would be awesome
* Poliwhirl-Poliwrath: Ash's first trade, with Misty

Hoenn:
* Corphish-Crawdaunt: Evolved in the Sinnoh Tournament

Sinnoh:
* The Porygon line: Unlikely, but if they ever managed to shed the stigma it deserves to be a companion
* Hippopotas: Please stop teasing us
* Riolu-Lucario: Cool typing, shows off his friendship and nod to the 8th movie

Unova:
* Ducklett-Swanna: Ducklett would be a recurring antagonist that Ash restrains
* Darmanitan: He had two Grass types, two Water types...I just want the theme to continue
* Female Frillish: Counter to Trip's Frillish, and have it possess Water Absorb. For added humor, it and Trip's Frillish are fond of one another
* Meloetta: She clearly wanted to be with Ash. To prevent Ash from becoming a Mary Sue, have Meloetta only appear in huge battles or emergencies. She's the female Charizard, basically. Not officially owned, mind you
* Zekrom: Briefly tame to counter N's Reshiram, then they go off on their own journey. And I submit to you, Ash riding a Zekrom

Brock's Pokemon
* Geodude: Have it evolve
* Stantler: Should've gotten it
* Ditto: I love the irony of a wannabe ladies man getting a Pokemon known for...breeding
* Vulpix: He should've kept it

Misty's Pokemon
* Togepi-Togetic: Should've evolved much earlier to protect its mom
* Horsea-Seadra: Didn't do much as a Horsea
* Wooper: The thing's adorable

May's Pokemon
* Swablu: STOP TEASING US
* Feebas: This Pokemon was created to show off the contest mechanic
* Phione: Phione isn't that legendary nor rare. Have her befriend one as a nice nod to Manaphy

Max's "Pokemon"
* Ralts and Shuppet: Just because you can't train a Pokemon doesn't mean it couldn't follow you around

Dawn's Pokemon
* Grimer: I don't see why not
* Ambipom: She keeps it
* Buneary-Lopunny: It evolves through happiness
* Rotom: Instead of Togekiss. Rotom's quirky behavior seems like a fun Pokemon to be part of the team

Iris' Pokemon
* Axew-Fraxure: It wanted to evolve
* Deino: For someone else to be in her hair. It's adorable, a Dragon type and they teased it
* An Ice type: To help her get over her fear of Ice types. For bonus points it should be a scary-looking Ice type

Cilan's Pokemon
* Vanillite: An ice cream Pokemon? With a Pokemon conisseur and cook? Win

Team Rocket's Pokemon
* Ferrothorn or Maractus: James' Pokemon have a long history of being Grass types that hurt him
* Weepingbell, Arbok, Weezing: Jessie and James should've kept them
* Tynamo-Eelektrik: Jessie usually gets serpent Pokemon, and this line is the closest to that besides Snivy
* Golett: A habit of mechas
* Any Ground type: They think it'll make them undefeatable against Pikachu. Well...

Tobias
* An actual backstory and foreshadowing. Tobias would show up now and again, hunting for rare Pokemon
* A shiny: He's a rare Pokemon hunter
* Primeape: How else would he have obtained a Darkrai? It can't be put to sleep and has a type advantage
* Cresselia: Instead of Latios
* Unova Pokemon

Brock would've had more than 3 Pokemon if he was kept for DP, and there would be no sign of that Croagunk anywhere.

Croagunk was Brock's best Pokemon in DP though imo.

In XY I would ONLY have Ash do the gyms and league, nothing more.
Serena would have gotten a goal by episode 20, particularly the Battle Chateau or Rhyhorn Racing.
Team Rocket wouldn't even be in XY, I would have them get fired on the spot after Operation Tempest in BW, along with Giovanni disbanding the entire organization there.
Team Flare would have shown up by episode 20.

Also in BW I would have used BW1 Team Plasma and its story plot instead of the generic BW2 Team Plasma.

Croagunk was Brock's best Pokemon in DP though imo.
I'm more bummed out at Croagunk for the whole poison jabbing thing- I feel like that got old really quickly, but that's just me.

It wasn't even close to as old as James' Victreebell swallowing him all the time. And even that was far from as old as James' Cacnea hugging James all the time. By the time Cacnea began that gag it was already far too old from Victreebell.

Croagunk was hilarious and did a better job than Max did. Max was never funny when he dragged Brock away, but at least Croagunk was.
