If You Were in Charge of the Anime (*POTENTIAL SPOILERS*)

If I was in charge...

Kanto:

Ash:

On hand:

Pikachu - Starter. Basically the same as in the Anime right now. Would NOT be used against Brock. Would be used against Misty in her gym.

Pidgeot - Caught as a Pidgey. First Pokemon Ash caught. Quickly evolved after weakening a Caterpie that Ash caught. Evolved again when Ash fought Erika's Gloom. Left to defend some Pidgey. Ash still checks on it from time to
time.

Butterfree - Caught as a Caterpie weakened by Pidgey. Evolved after defending another Caterpie from a Spearow. Metapod was used in the battle against Brock. After Pidgeotto fainted against Onix after being weakened by Geodude, Metapod was sent out and used Tackle. After using String Shot on Onix, Onix crushed Metapod's cocoon. Metapod evolved into Butterfree. Butterfree used Confusion to beat Onix. After the battle with Misty, Butterfree was released to mate with that Pink Butterfree. Ash saw it again after he lost in the Pokemon League.

Squirtle - After defeating Misty, Ash decided to go to Nugget Bridge. When he won, he was about to get a Nugget. But then, a Squirtle stole the Nugget. Ash chased the Squirtle. He found it at Bill's house. Bill told Ash that Squirtle appear around Cerulean City from time to time. Ash used Pikachu to catch Squirtle. It still has the same personality as in the real Anime.

Bulbasaur - On the way to Vermillion City, Ash and friends found an injured Bulbasaur. Luckily, Brock had a few Potions. They healed the Bulbasaur. Bulbasaur followed them around for two episodes before showing itself to thank Ash and Brock. Ash then asked Bulbasaur if it wanted to be his Pokemon. Bulbasaur agreed, and it was caught.

Charizard - In Vermillion City, Ash and friends saw Gary in the Pokemon Center. They saw that Gary had released a Charmander because it was too weak. It followed the same story as the Anime right now. Then, as Ash was fighting Sabrina, it evolved while fighting Abra. Charmeleon was still defeated. It then started being disobedient to Ash. After Ash lost against Blaine, he decided to train Charmeleon. Charmeleon battled Blaine on his own. He got severely beaten. Ash took Charizard to the Pokemon Center. When Charizard woke up, he was healed. When Ash rematched Blaine, Charizard listened to Ash.

The rest later.

Snorlax - Caught by Ash on Route 16 just outside of Celadon City. The Poke Flute is used when Snorlax gets cranky. The music calms him down. He is a power house of Ash's team.

Lapras - Given to Ash in Silph Co. after he made Casssidy, Butch, and Giovanni leave. When Ash and friends need to get over water. They use Lapras. She was very useful in the Cinnabar Island Gym.

Oaked:

Marowak - Everyone seems to like this. Cubone followed Ash after Ash defeated the Rocket Grunts that killed the Cubone's mother. Cubone then asked Ash to catch it. He did, and Cubone was powerful. Cubone evolved in the battle against Blaine's Arcanine.

Muk - The same as the anime, except caught as a Grimer. Evolved against Team Rocket's Arbok.

Tauros - Same as the anime, except he only has one. He only caught one, then the time ran out.

Kingler - Same as the anime.

Released:

Characters By Saga

Ash:
- Kanto: Ash must learn the basics of becoming a pokemon trainer. He loses Gym Battles quite often and even loses the League.
- Orange Islands: Ash must defeat the five Orange Island Gym Leaders and get Charizard to obey him in order to earn the right to challenge the Elite 4.
- Sevii Isles(and Kanto Elite 4): Ash and co. go to stop Team Rocket. While there Ash challenges the seven Frontier Brain in last minute preparation for his Elite 4 challenge. Ash challenges and defeats the Elite 4 afterwards. Ash has to overcome trainng a handful of new pokemon (although he has a handful of already-trained pokemon to help)
- Johto: Ash must learn to train an entirely new team of pokemon without using reserves.
- 17 Elements Islands(and Johto Elite 4): Ash and co. go to defeat the evil Element Mafia who conduct battles in Gym fashion. Sence the stakes are so high, Ash has a temporary loss of confidence and begins ignoring newly caught pokemon for his Kanto and Johto reserves.
- Hoenn: Now that Ash has become a decent trainer, he must learn to be a tutor. He bonds with both Max and Wally.
- AG Battle Frontier: Ash goes to challenge the Hoenn Frontier Brains to train for his Elite 4 challenge. Ash loses to Wallace, the Champion of Hoenn, and spends the next two years in training (time skip)
- Kanto Return(and Hoenn Elite 4...rechallenged) - Ash's Kanto Champion status is challenged by someone whose managed to defeat even Gary. The events of Pokemon Collesium also take place in this arc. Ash finally goes to rechallenge the Hoenn Elite 4 (at the end of the saga) only to find that the new Champion is Steven Stone.
- Sinnoh and the Battle Zone - Ash has become a good trainer but it seems he's hit a deadend while his rivals continue to grow. Ash questions whether Paul's harsh training style is actually the right way and spends the saga thinking of new, inventive ways to train his pokemon. After losing to Volkner, who has the strength of an Elite 4 member, Ash decides to challenge the Sinnoh Frontier Brains (for training) before earning his 8th badge. It works out as Ash, yet again, wins the League.
- Johto Revisted (and Sinnoh Elite 4) - As he is on his way to challenge the Sinnoh Elite 4, Ash's ferry is blown up. Turns out that Team Snagem haven't actually been defeated and they're attempting to assignate everyone who has a hand in their previous downfall. The events of Pokemon XD take place. Ash also protects his Johto Champion status.
- 5th Generation - Now that Randy's out of the picture, Ash has to learn how to survive without depending on friends.

Randy:
- Kanto - Decides to leave home and join Ash to become a Breeder so that he can eventually build his own Breeding Center to make the income to provide for his siblings. He loses the Kanto Breeding Convention
- Orange Islands - Sits in the sidelines.
- Sevii Isles - Wins the Breeding Convention
- Johto - Begins training his pokemon rather then just focusing on their inner health.
Wins the Breeding Convention
- 17 Elements Isles - Wins Breeding Convention.
- Hoenn - Becomes more interested in medicines. Wins Breeding Convention
- AG Battle Frontier - sits in the sidelines
- Kanto Return - Wins the Kanto Breeding Convention on his second time through.
- Sinnoh and Battle Zone - Wins Sinnoh Breeding Convention. He gets news that sence he's now won 6 regions' Breeding Conventions he can open his own Breeding Center.
- Johto return - Goes through mental drama of whether or not he should leave Ash.
- 5th Generation - Doesn't want to leave his "brother" so he decides to become a trainer and give up on his Breeding career. He becomes a rival for Ash and ends up losing to him in the final round of the League. Randy accepts his place and heads to his new breeding center and moves his siblings and Rachel in with him. Ash bids his final farewells and promises to always be his best friend (He is not a main character during this saga, just a rival)

Gary:
- Kanto - An arrogant douche that upstages Ash at every turn. Gary just barely defeats Ash in the Kanto League due to Charizard's disobedience.
- Orange Islands - Challenges the Kanto Elite 4 while Ash trys to earn his right to challenge them himself. Becomes the Champion during this saga.
- Sevii Isles (and Kanto Elite 4)- Helps Ash and co. fight off Team Rocket. Loses to Ash but remains the champion due to Ash's refusal of staying fixed in one spot.
- Johto,17 Elements Islands, Hoenn, AG Battle Frontier - Gets scattered cameos
- Kanto Revisited - Reveals that he has lost to Kai, the new Champion of Kanto. Decides to give up being a train to be a Pokemon Researcher.

If I were Ash, I'd actually remember everything I learned each region, like not use Seismic Toss on a Ghost type, or use a Water move on Infernape, you know, the stupid mistakes that Ash knew about, but forgot entirely

I would stop trying to polish a turd and give up on it. Or wrap up Sinnoh and start with a new protagonist then gear the whole show towards an older audience.

Make pokemon a bit darker you know?

I would kick Dawn out over the show because she steals the show from Ash and the contests drag on a little bit to much.
Make ash have a good rival not like Barry or Paul but bring back Gary.
Ash would catch new pokemon not befriend them.
Brock would have more of a part in the show.
Ash would lose like a man not a little kid.
Ash would get his Johto voice back.
Ash would have a better group of pokemon his groups fine it could use some tweaking though.

Frontier Brain B

I'm that good.
Throwing the advertisement aspect out, since that's really the number one thing that hurts this show:

-The series would be significantly shorter. I'd probably clip a few episodes here and there from the Kanto stuff, but Johto through now would pretty much be rewritten to fit a more concise scope, and not "stretch it out for a few years until new games." I would try to keep everything to about 50 or 60 episodes a region.
-Ash would travel alone, making him and Team Rocket the main human characters. This way, Ash's team has time to grow, since they're the only things he'll interact with most of the time, and those poor fecks who belong to Misty, Brock, and the others don't have to bore us with their empty shells of personalities.
-The player characters of the video games, I would try to put in movies.

I'm one of those, who believe everything happens for a reason. Had Ash woken up early, he still would have not got that Squirtle (apparently that was Ash's pick), so he'd choose Charmander instead (based on the rival having the type advantage by default). Had they not go to Hophophop Town, there's be no Psyduck, plus one boring series. Had Ash not interfered with Team Rocket's dynamite fuse at Grampa Canyon, there would still be a bunch of p***ed off Dinosaurs.

The list goes on... had Ash have known about Ghost types being immune to Fighting move, Ash would have had a better match with Brandon... though the whole thing woulda been Charizard vs Frontier team 7.

though the whole thing woulda been Charizard vs Frontier team 7

The battle was extremely close and Charizard was noticably tired. Had Dusclops lost, Ninjask or Solrock would have just finished Charizard off. Charizard gets way too much credit. There was no was he would have swept Brandon, mistake from Ash or not.

Anyway, I'd go all out with the teams. And sense I've been adding to this list little by little for a while now, I'll just copy and paste the whole thing. Spoiler tags included due to length. Keep in mind there would be massive team rotation and any released pokemon would return. The only reason I'd keep pokemon releases a feature of the anime is to give certain pokemon some final development.

I would have ash remember that normal and fighting moves do not work on ghosts. Seriously how many times has he learned that?

I Haven't reed the entire thread but a lot of the stuff here is, "I'm gonna use all of the stuff that I know is interesting and works in the shows currently and retroactively go back into the past and change things."

If I personally was a writer of the pokemon anime in the early days and was limited to the information about pokemon I had back then. I guess the anime would've turned out a lot like the current manga with a few minor changes, minor compared to what alot of people on this thread proposed I guess.

Well since the anime was aimed at a younger audience then the manga, I guess the anime might have ended up similar to the way it has already happened and it makes me wonder if the writers in the beginning had actually played and understood the games before creating the script for the anime.

I would've better explain the biggest questions plaguing this anime instead of leaving them unexplained for many years, eg - Butterfree Primape, Pigeot, Genders, a better measure of pikachu's power etc... but I'll still leave some mystery or create new one every time one mystery is revealed, all good shows need some mysteries.

I guess there's the reality of having to end the show, a writer would not have expected Pokemon to be as popular or successful as it is/was. You'd have to kind of balance having the series leading towards a conclusive ending while at the same time keeping the show open for continuation, in case the show stays popular.

The show ending up the way it currently is, I guess it wasn't so bad, it was and currently is an enjoyable ride, it could've been better but with the limitations, I've described and some I can't currently think of, it's still fairly decent, although there are some boring bits I would've improved.

I would've continued Pokemon Chronicles, making a monthly series or something like that, a new pokemon chronicles every month, showing what's happened to the non-main cast (Misty, Richie, Casey, Harrison, Gary, May, Morrison, Tyson... etc) and Ash's Oaked or released pokemon and if there's been any meetings between them.

An Example might be something like, Tyson meeting Ash's Charizard during his post league training in Jhoto in preperation against the Elite 4 or Champions League and questioning why didn't Ash use such a Strong pokemon against him during the Hoenn League and ends up wondering how things would've turned out if Ash became the Champion and if he really deserved the right to challenge the Elite 4 or compete in the Champions league if Ash had been holding back on him but quickly getting over it with his pokemon's support and maybe a short quick dual with Ash's Charizard showing his skills as a pokemon training, and that he defeated Ash because he was the better pokemon trainer that day, not because Ash's pokemon were weak.

I am also guilty of What Ash did in his battle against, Brendon/Jindai, I was thinking "this is the perfect opportunity to use Seimic Toss and them finding out oh **** that pokemon was a Ghost type, Ash was caught up in heat of battle and forgot, some of us are guilty of that but normally you would expect a experienced trainer like Ash to know.

I Guess there's no excuse to use Quick Attack on Agatha's Gengar for example.

All I am going to say is that if I was in charge of the anime, Id make it more like Pkmn Special, by this I don't mean a replica of it, but where it would take itself alot more serious. Also would have the art style upgraded slightly, not a big upgrade, but one that doesn't make it look like it was drawn in paint half the time.

...

...

The Anime sucks. There, got that off my chest.

Been a while since I posted here. I just have one thing I would've done differently.

I would've resolved the whole Thunderstone issue by having Jessie get an Eevee and evolve it into Jolteon. Then, she would tout it as Team Rocket's defense against Electric attacks for a few episodes and go back to using Seviper when Ash got wise to Jolteon's attack patterns. Or did I say that already? Ah well.

If I were in charge, after Sinnoh, I would have Ash go back to Kanto. Since he lost the Indigo League, I want to see him challenge the Kanto gym leaders again and battle all of his rivals like Ritchie, Harrison, Morrison, Paul, Barry, and even Conway. I would also have Dawn leave. Not that I don't like her, she's great, but I would bring Misty back. Dawn can travel with Kenny and Zoey. Ash, Misty, and Brock would be traveling through Kanto again. I would like to see the show go back to its roots but without rehashing everything. They can still change it up. I also want to see Giovanni and Team Rocket rise to power again. No more Aqua, Magma, or Galactic.

Ash's Team: Charizard, Pidgeot, Pikachu, Infernape, Torterra, Lapras

Misty's Team: Gyarados, Psyduck, Togetic, Staryu, Starmie, Goldeen

Brock's Team: Steelix, Geodude, Sudowoodo, Croagunk, Foretress, Crobat
