If you were to improve Iris' character and her arc overall, what would you do?

She wasn't that bad so it's not like I think she needed a major overhaul but her having more important episodes to herself would've been nice.

I never got the feeling that the writers themselves knew what the hell a Dragon Master was supposed to be and they just made that up as they went. Maybe they shoulda settled on better endgame goal for her from the start.

Evolve Axew. Evolving it was her main goal and it went mostly nowhere until a decade later. If it was marketing that got in the way, evolve it at the end so there is something more obvious that shows he grew.

Ditch Dragonite. He was a filler for her lacking a strong dragon and it had a bad arc since it was stronger disobedient and then lost ever since he started listening. Either give her Deino/Zweilous early and have that develop into her powerhouse, especially if Axew can't, or give her Druddigon if they don't want any evolutions.

Make her the 8th Gym fight for Ash so that we can see how she had grown since the start. Basically Clemont minus Luxray getting all the KOs.

It definitely had it's up and down. I do like the two parter with Drayden but I'm assuming they knew way ahead of BW2 so I'm assuming they were willing to crutch it a little bit more since the games were announced. Especially when they gave her an ambiguous ending on where or what she'll do next. I'm assuming that's why they never expanded on what a Dragon Master was

Jobbernite should have never existed

- Iris: Ash’s companion.

- Iris would be a talented trainer yet have childish qualities that serve as a rival for Ash

- She already have her Axew and Druddigon at the beginning of the series. Throughout the show, she will received her other mons.

Hydreigon: start as an Egg which she raise from a Deino and all the way to a Hydreigon.

Lapras: catch, represent how she overcome her fear of Ice Type

Archeops: baby Archean from a fossils that she revived.

Aggron: mon that she catch.

And Iris’s Axew would evolved into a Fraxure by the time of the Unova League.

Yes. Iris also participated in the Unova LeagueS

For the Oplecuid arc, It similar to the anime and Iris would battle Drayden and this time she won. It’s also revealed at the time that Iris has all 8 badges.

Participate in the Unova League and won.

Than during the Episode N Arc, Iris will catch a Bagon that will eventually evolved into a Salamence off-screen.

Unova end, Iris will decide to return to Oplecuid Cory and train with Draydeb in preparation of entering the Champion League as she seeks to become the next Champion of Unova

Here is my version of her team / party changes throughout the series:

BW:

Axew -> Fraxure (would evolve at the very end)
Excadrill
Emolga
Dragonite
Lapras (catches it during the Decorola Archipelago)

XY:

Fraxure
Excadrill
Emolga
Dragonite
Lapras
Aron -> Mega Aggron (would catch it instead of Gible and evolve all the way and be capable of mega-evolving by her return)

JN:

Haxorus (would have evolved prior to her return)
Excadrill
Emolga
Dragonite
G.Max Lapras (would use it during her battle with Cynthia)
Mega Aggron

For the most part I was happy with it. I wouldn’t had her catch Dragonite that’s for sure. Not only is it a complete jobber but just a bland-ish Pokémon all together. At least give her a Salamance or have her catch Gible earlier.

Given her character development + goal focus (in terms of just being a Type Specialist) = her ending up becoming Unova's Champion makes her one of the better development companions imo

Not a big fan of the Dragon super powers as a kid and an adult

I’m overall fine with the Champion thing. The series basically said after the series ended Cynthia and Drayden have been giving her advice and she took down Alder. The last time we saw her, she was challenging a Gym Leader and this was her second one. Actually mentioning Alder would have been helpful but I digress.

Yeah, have Axew evolve or at the very least show character growth when he’s not such a baby. Get rid of the “Axew lost episodes”.

Have her actually defeat Drayden because at this point Jobbernite it fumbling all of the bags and I’m starting to think it’s becoming purposeful.

Journeys implying she has Hydregion is l salt in the wound because Deino would have been the perfect Pokémon and it’s basically the inspiration for aesthetic.

Not make it seem like leaving Ash was just this emotionless thing were she just dropped him/Cilan for bigger and better.

Other than that I find her character well written and organic growth. Sad she was the last battler (in terms of girls) of the series

That moment I found a lifetime treasure
Give her proper flashbacks of her becoming a champion. One focused episode would be good as well although I do not think a series is needed to show how she became a champion. Have her release that useless Dragonite and catch another Dragon-type Pokemon. I would also give her more character development during the BW series. It doesn't feel like she changed that much personality wise (during BW, in JN she has changed for sure). Iris is overall a good character. She's OK.
