What was your FIRST IMPRESSION when Shinji debuted? What about Hikari? What did you first think of their first interaction (DP016)?

First impression of Paul: I thought he was pretty cool and badass looking, and I loved his personality. I was a bit annoyed at him dissing Ash though, because this was way back when I thought he was a new trainer himself, but I still liked how his character stood out apart from all others in the show.

Dawn: I loved how feminine she was, honestly. She was adorable, and I thoroughly enjoyed watching her cute and hilarious antics in the first episode and onwards.

First interaction: I found it hilarious that Paul admitted to have forgotten her existence (or was it just her name?) so bluntly to her face and ignored her angry outburst. He didn't even flinch when she came at him like a pissed-off Mankey (but thank goodness Brock was there to restrain her). I loved it and still do. XD

First Impression of Shinji/Paul: Where's Barry?

A bit later into the season: GARY CLONE!

A bit more into the season: UNEMOTIONAL COMPLETE BADA55 GARY CLONE!

Shinji's Character was not THAT well developed, I suppose, like he wasn't given a reason to act this way (unlike some proper Japanese animes where stuck up characters are either Tsunderes or have traumatic childhoods or something). Still, he is considered a good character by DP standards (Ash, on the other hand, is horrible and completely nonsensical, given that he has a level 255 Pikachu knowing 50 moves, and still lose out to simple gym leaders and such). I actually hoped for him to have a Tsundere moment in front of Dawn/Hikari but NO! 4Kids who control the anime production form behind the scenes still wants more product propaganda instead of some solid storytelling!

In my last post, I forgot to say what I thought about Dawn and Paul's first encounter. I almost fell out of my chair laughing so hard XD
I agree with the person above me, Paul should have had more backstory...

Well, no one in the Pokemon anime has a good background story. I've accepted this and moved on. That's what fanfiction's for :3 And besides, I don't think Paul *needs* a reason to act how he does. There are people out there who are dicks because they're dicks.

Though I think his canon story might have been a little backwards. In the beginning, he's shown being very aloof and cold. Come to the battle with Brandon (and before that, in Pokeringer), we saw his emotions overwhelm him, which caused him to make mistakes. Paul, being the one who wants to WIN NO MATTER WHAT, maybe should have become more closed and emotionally-detached instead of...more? I dunno, seemed odd to me.

Then again, I hate how he all of a sudden and out of nowhere was like OH HEY GOOD WORK, GUY, THANKS to his pokemon in his last battle with Ash. The writers took a major dump on his character at the end.

We're in September and most of us are back to school now. If Shinji and Hikari were in high school, how would their first day go?

H: Hmmm... I'll go with Shinji's.
I: I guess I'll do Hikari's?

Shinji's First Day of High School
I'm pretty sure that Shinji will get as much attention as Satoshi and Shuu, considering that they're pretty much like the popular characters in Pokemon. Satoshi's the funny one, Shuu's the romantic one, and Shinji's the tsundere one (*shot*).
The girl will probably fawn over him in class. He'll either try to shoo them away with a death glare or ignore them to give them the cold shoulder.
When it's class time, he'd get picked first to solve a problem or something. During lunch, he'd either eat on the roof or be forced to eat with Satoshi and Shuu, along with other girls (*cough*Hikari, Haruka, Kasumi*cough*). Hikari tries to talk to him. Instead of pissing her off again, he'd decide to talk at least about one topic with her. xDDDD
After school is over, he'll just go home. I think he'll deny any club offers though. xDDD

Hikari's First Day of High School
Let's see... Knowing Hikari, she'll probably make friends easily (and get dressed up beautifully for a good impression). Let's go with Haruka and Kasumi, shall we? Honestly, I think they make a good trio.
She'll most likely be curious about why girls are making a commotion about Shinji, Shuu, and Satoshi (especially Shinji x]). I think she'll probably try talking to Shinji, but she gets the cold shoulder. She will retort at Shinji and stomp away.
When class is in session, she might be fuming from earlier. But she does good with the work nonetheless. (Lunch time) She'll get invited by Kasumi and Haruka to eat with them or eat together with the popular boys (they know each other). Hikari will probably try talking to Shinji again. It's either the same result or she gets some small talk out of him.
After school, she'll probably go to the mall (is that what girls do?) with friends. But if she had club activities, I think it's best that she joins a fashion or dance club.

Well, this depends entirely on what kind of school they would attend, hmm? They could go to a normal high school, or a vocational school, or a boarding school. Or rival schools (but that would only apply if they were in activities where this rivalry would be an issue, and they don't seem like the kind...) Hell, they could go to a school where the boys and girls are kept entirely separate! (anyone getting some fanfic ideas? Because I sure am...)

Either way, first day of school, I can see Paul being very closed and cold to everyone. He would size up the classmates that interest him, but mainly, he would keep to himself. He would be competitive, especially if he were in a physical education class. Most people probably wouldn't really find him remarkable at first.

Dawn, on the other hand, is a very social and open girl, and this would show through. She'd make friends (and admirers) fast, yet may struggle in school. She's not exactly a bookworm; she learns best in a hands-on environment, so subjects like math and history may just confuse her. I can see her enjoying science lab-type classes, though, where she can get in there with a microscope and really do science. She probably would be squicked by dissections, though.

Figuring out how these two cross paths in this setting would be very interesting. Perhaps they share a class and find a mutual interest. Maybe Paul, needing some extra cash, offers tutoring lessons and Dawn takes him up on the offer. Maybe he accidentally hits her with a volleyball in PE and that is the catalyst to their relationship.

Hmm... Shinji as always would probaly be dull and boring and wouldn't give a damn about anything that goes on and maybe trouble. Also maybe fangirls =_= (HIKARI DESERVES HIM!!!) also no friends.

As for Hikari, she would have so much fun and meet new friends. She tries her best to do great in school.

sorry i havnt posted for while, i caught a bug.
(lol trust me to pokemon relate it), so ive been ill, nothing serious, plus ive been busy with other stuff, as im very random, so ive been doing a lot of other projects... including this big amv im gonna post at newyears.

I could see Paul being the mysterious loner badboy, who skips lessons to train his pokemon, and is realy clever, and no-one speaks to him cuz of his cold attitude and he too cool and spicy!!. (kinda like amu out of shugo chara!)

Dawn would be the most popular girl in the school but no-one likes her cuz they think she is a mean girl,but her closest friends zoey,may and misty knows what shes realy sweet and likes to worry. and she gives off an aura thats everyone wants she gives off the mean girl effect because of her strengh to not back down from her place, people hate her cuz they want to be her.

together dawn will open him up out of his attitude and can see that he has potential, and paul can see through her popularity and helps her real self to be stronger then her outerself. and she helps paul not to back down from school

I think Shinji would definitely be the loner who gets straight As if he felt like it. He might have fangirls.
Hikari would dress up nice and make a lot of friends. She would probably suck at math.
There are too many possibilities for there first day.
Maybe Shinji would "accidentally" hit Hikari in the face when they were playing dodgeball in gym class or something. Or if there was a pool at their school, maybe Hikari would space out staring at a shirtless Shinji XD
Maybe Shinji would forget Hikari's name again. Or their assigned seats are next to each other, or they get assigned to be lab partners, or they have ALL their classes together, or they have lockers next to each other, or

They would probably be pushed together accidentally in the halls by Katsumi or Satoshi. Hikari would be great friends with Katsumi and Haruka and aim to please and be the best. Shinji would be the loner that Hikari decides is her "project". She would want to make him open up. It'll probably take all school year or a number of years to crack him fully.

Well, Hikari would probably be the social butterfly who befriends everybody in sight while Shinji, I imagine, would probably be more of a loner although he might end up being part of some large group that he just doesn't talk much in (he's just there for the ride). Maybe they would end up having a few classes together and maybe even end up sitting next to each other in one class. If that happened I imagine Hikari would be very eager to talk to him and try to befriend only to have a silent, stony Shinji scowl at her. >O And then maybe a scene like in DP016 would happen when Hikari passes Shinji on the way to another class and she says hi only to have him ask if he knows her. xD

What would the Ikari couple do on Halloween?

Dawn would want to throw some kind of party or celebration, even if it's just amongst herself and her friends (ie, Ash, Brock and their pokemon, possibly Zoey, Barry, etc.). Paul would be busy training his pokemon. XD Should he get roped into this party, he would be reluctant and probably spend a great deal of time sulking on his own. And eating stuff.

How would they dress?

Dawn would definitely take the opportunity to design her own costume as well as costumes for her pokemon. She'd do something cutesy, maybe a Piplup cosume or something. Paul would wear what he always wears, as I just can't see him dressing up.

I can see Hikari and/or Satoshi throwing a gigantic party (and reunion) on Halloween. Shinji will probably be dragged in reluctantly.

Hikari would design something adorable for her/her pokemon. Shinji would either not dress up or come as some scare creature of the night just to scare Satoshi/Reiji.

I like to think they throw a big party with all the other pokemon characters over at Oak's Laboratory x3
They could play all kind of scary games, play hide and seek in the dark and have some courage tests like they do in Japan :3
I can see the guys, especially Gary and Ash, play pranks on the girls )
Hikari would have dragged Shinji there of course.

Hikari being a gifted pokemon stylist would make her outfit <3
She could crossdress as a pokemon. Either a spooky one like Misdreavus or a cuter one. ^^
As for Shinji, it would be so cute if Hikari convinced him to crossdress as a Mightyena, it wouldn't be too fancy. She could even wear a Skitty outfit like in this pic :
