Yes you need it; same way as DS.

Oh, you dont need any wires? Do you need a router?

Yes, you need a router or at least the USB Wi-Fi connector that the DS uses. Either one will work fine.

On the Wii options I think it says something about a wired connection, I wouldn't know because I use a router... Does anyone know when the news and Weather Channel will be available?

Early 2007.

Wired connection allows you to plug a USB cable to the Wii.

Early 2007.

According to IGN the Forecast Channel will launch December 20, 2006, and the News Channel will launch January 27th, 2007.

I was kinda irked they didn't launch with the system. >.<

Well obviously it'd be likely they neeeded to finish tuning it up. Getting the console out on time is more important and not everyone can update their Wii to go online yet when the servers are taking a pounding from so many people trying to update their Wii.

So, I could get a cable and connect my Wii to my cable modem, and it should still be able to access the internet? I am just wondering as I do not think I will be getting a router anytime soon.

Do note that you cannot use an ethernet cable as the Wii doesn't have an ethernet port.

I'm not entirely sure about how the wired connection works since I use wireless. :p

Well, if I am understanding what you are saying right, I guess I would just be better off getting a router, or asking my dad if I can borrow his :p.

I will have to see if I can find out.

EDIT: I just realised, my modem is connected to my computer via a USB, so does that mean that I would be able to jsut use that? It makes no sence if you cannot.

Oh, and sorry if this is going slightly off topic, but can you use the Wii connected via wire to the internet as a router for the Ds to go online?
