...if Ash started with a pokemon OTHER than Pikachu.

Lets see, Pikachu is a 2 staged pokemon, or was at the time, who evolves with a stone.

So ash could have had a Jigglypuff, Clefairy, Eevee, Vulpix, or Cloyster, or some other pokemon.

How different would the pokemon series be?

Say he had Vulpix.

There would be Vulpix merchandise EVERYWHERE, and maybe it would now have a pre evo (Pichu).

What are your thoughts?

Maybe, but then, what would they have called the special version? Pokémon Flamered: Special Vulpix Version?

If ash had a Cloyster.....the merchandise wouldn't be very good. I think Cloyster is ugly.

It wouldn't make very good plushies...
