In the Shadow of Truth (One-Shot)

Yes, I know it's short, so please don't nag me about it!
Haha! The second One-Shot I've ever finished! Yeah, I know, it's sad, but I'm terrible at that kind of thing. I get all hyped up about one story, I write it for about two hours and then get tired of it. That's mostly what happens with all the one-shots I start. The only other I've ever actually finished was Despair's Hope, and that was at least a year ago. Actually, I wrote this one quite a while ago too, intending it to be part of a larger story, but since I'm not pursuing that story line anymore I think the would-be prologue is sufficiant as a stand alone. It's a sad one-shot really, but I like it.
Enjoy!

In the Shadow of Truth
A One-Shot Fanfiction by Saya

Pokemon—the happy, fun loving species human beings have come to love and respect over the many years they have been part of our lives. Pokemon—the extremely complex beings of our world that we shall never truly understand. Pokemon—those who once brought excitement and difference into the dull and monotonous lives of humans. Pokemon—the creatures that teach us to live better lives each day, to live not for ourselves, but for others as well.

These were the creatures that brought hope into our desolate world. These were the beings that brought us peace, teaching us ideas we could never have imagined on our own. They were fun, loving, friendly creatures. They would never hurt anything for the world without being forced to by cruel masters. These were the only creatures on our planet that were never truly evil.

Yet these were the creatures we turned on. These were the creatures we beat, forced into lives of slavery and cruelty because we could not understand their un-bounding hearts of love and compassion for us. These were the creatures most misunderstood on our planet. These were the creatures that earned our everlasting hate though they did absolutely nothing to deserve it.

And yet, these creatures took the pain and hate we forced on them. They did not fight back when we persecuted them unjustly. We slaughtered them because we blamed them for everything that had gone wrong with our “perfect” world. And while we broke them, treated them like monsters, like beasts, these creatures still held onto that tiny spark of hope that the human race would one day return to their senses and see Pokemon as they once had; to see them as friends, not as an object of wrathful hatred.

They kept that hope as still we persecuted them, brutally wounding and crushing them for our own evil desires. They suffered far more than they ever should have, but still they did not fight back for they loved us too much to hurt us. They meekly endured their cruel banishment from human settlements. They were cast out as things with no value and locked away from the human world. They lived in a desolate wasteland filled with ancient horrors, traps, starvation and death. This is something no being of our earth should ever have to experience. And yet they did, all because of the blinding hate of humans, hatred that led to the greatest slaughter in the history of our world.

While outside the protected human settlements Pokemon suffer and die daily, their population steadily decreasing until their entire race is all but wiped out, inside these settlements the humans lives are prosperous, yet without Pokemon, without any joy. As the years pass Pokemon shall become the mist of myths and legends, evil beings in fairy tails made to frighten young children at night.

Not many know the awful truth of the horrible misdeeds inflicted on this race. Not many can say they know the true history of Pokemon and mean it. But the few that can harvest one tiny seed of hope deep inside them, that one-day humans and Pokemon alike shall one more be united as one. They dream of the day when the two races shall live together in peace and harmony. They desperately yearn for the time when Pokemon will re-enter the lives of humans and change us, again, forever. But for now we can only watch and wait and hope.

*sob* Wonderful. AND IT'S TRUE! THAT'S WHY POKEMON DON'T TURN ON THE HUMANS!

This is great, Saya. Absolutely great. And the "Author Unknown" signature at the end made it even more...more...mysterious and sad. [SPOIL]But I have a feeling it's Ash.[/SPOIL] KEEP UP THE WORK, SAYA! CAN'T WAIT FOR MORE OF YOUR BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN ONE-SHOTS AND FICS!

Well that was pretty good. SO I'm guessing that you believe that pokemon and humans coexisted for all of eternity and that humans didn't just come in later. Some people say pokemon were there before humans as there are fossil pokemon. I assume that you believe that they coexisted because you put that pokemon are happy fun-loving... basically they are incapable of any misdeed without an evil trainer. If you were to believe that the creator of pokemon wanted us to believe that pokemon were there before humans, as it says in the RSE games, then the pokemon must have killed each other for food and have done misdeeds as pokemon all have different personalities. Misdreavus is the mischevious pokemon so obviously it would cause mishief without an evil trainer.

I like the way you write but I believe that the creator of pokemon wanted us to think that pokemon were there long before humans and therefore, obviously did do somethings wrong as most of them operate and distrubuted attitudes of humans, such as a thief etc...

Thank you KP! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I wasn't sure how much it'd take in peoples minds, but I can see you though it was good. *grins* And the 'author unknown' part I didn't really have an idea of who wrote it or anything so I'll just let you guys fill in the holes yourself! [/'Holes' quote] XD

Well, I don't really have 'personal' beliefs on Pokemon. I just pretty much made all this up in my head. Pokemon, much like animals, do kill each other for food, but that is only out of necessity not out of hatred or of evil intent. But I see what you mean. The part about them not hurting another soul I guess could be taken that way, but I really only meant it to show that they are innocent creatures, which they are. Animals and Pokemon are much alike because they won't just hurt you because they feel like it. Either your threatening them in some way or they have rabies or have gone mad.
But I'm glad to have your in put! Thanks so much for reviewing, I really appreciate it!
