• Hi all
Just a notice, we recently discovered that someone got into a moderator account and started hard deleting a load of key and legacy threads...around 150 threads have been lost dating back to 2007 and some weeks ago so we can't roll the forums back.
Luckily no personal data could be accessed by this moderator, and we've altered the permissions so hard deleting isn't possible in the future
Sorry for any inconvenience with this and sorry for any lost posts.

Hitmontop @ Leftovers
• Adamant
• 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spe
~ Aerial Ace
~ Mach Punch
~ Revenge
~ Sucker Punch

This set messes with priority a lot. The idea is to abuse your Technician ability as much as possible with the moves you have to work with. It may seem an odd choice, but in-game, Aerial Ace is a good move, especially when its Base Power is boosted to an impressive 90, the same as Aura Sphere. Mach Punch hits a great 90 Base Power after STAB and Technician are factored in, and gives you a nice bit of priority to make up for the lack of Spe investment. Without its effect in play, Revenge still hits a hefty 135 Base Power, and goes for even more if you have been hurt first. Sucker Punch gives you added coverage and an answer to Ghosts.

If you plan to use this competitively, then you could up the Spe EVs to 88 to outspeed any Venusaur that run only 4 EVs in Spe and 2HKO with Aerial Ace while they cannot OHKO with Leaf Storm or Power Whip, giving you a spread of 170 HP / 252 Atk / 88 Spe, although you should have a more efficient way to deal with this threat.

If you want an even bulkier build, then you could opt for Bulk Up > Revenge. Be aware that this can be troublesome to set up, however. I didn't use Close Combat on this set because it reduces your bulk, although it could work well if you don't mind the Def drop.

^IMO, Close Combat is better than Revenge if you intend to constantly switch in and out, however, in-game, where switching out gets tiring after a while, Revenge is genereally best.

Pokémon Master
Hi, I'm looking for a contest movset for an Absol. I want it to be my Contest Pokemon, but I don't know what category it's best suited for, and therefore don't know what moveset to do on it. Thanks in advance!

Absol @ Red Scarf
Adamant / Lonely / Naughty / Brave Nature
- Rock Smash
- Hyper Beam
- Swords Dance
- Aerial Ace

IMO, you'll find Swellow a much better choice...

^ It's near impossible to rate a Buneary because it's NFE but here is a Lopunny set you could give a go;

428.png

• Lopunny @ Life Orb
• Jolly Nature
• 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
~ Return
~ Fake Out / Low Kick
~ Thunderpunch
~ Ice Punch

While LOPunny kinda sucks competitively, in-game, it's a viable set. Return is there for its high power, boosted by STAB, as its main attack. Ice Punch + Thunderpunch gives that excellent BoltBeam coverage, only resisted by Lanturn and Magnezone, IIRC. Fake Out is a decent option, but I don't know if Lopunny will be able to make great use of it with its mediocre base Attack so Low Kick is a viable option instead, although you could just choose a move of your own. I'm no expert on a Lopunny except for the TrickScarf versions, which you won't be using in a Playthrough. The EVs are there if you should want them but I don't imagine you will be using them. Also, if you dislike the recoil damage from Life Orb, then Muscle Band is also an option.

Hope it help.

Wondering if there's a viable way to EV an Abomasnow using Swords Dance, Ice Shard, Earthquake, and Grass Knot (over Seed Bomb/Wood Hammer). This is for the Battle Zone, and so I'm not so much worried about a threat list as I am about general coverage and maximized power. In my experience, most of the things against which I'd wanna use Grass have much higher defense than special defense, at least in the Zone. Max attack is a necessity, obviously, but maybe I could move some from speed or hp to special attack?

Miltank Man!
Well, I personally think yuo should stick with Seed Bomb. Mixed Abomasnow doesn't work too well in my experience, bar Wood Hammer / Blizzard / Ice Shard / Grass Knot sets.

Max Attack and max HP should do, because Aboma is a bit slow.

I think I love your username.

Anyway, here goes;

335.png

Zangoose @ Life Orb / Wise Glasses / Choice Specs
• Timid Nature
• 4 HP / 252 SpAtk / 252 Spe
~ Flamethrower / Shadow Ball
~ Thunderbolt
~ Ice Beam
~ Swift

This thing's Special Movepool isn't actually that bad. Thunderbolt + Ice Beam give you the almost unresisted BoltBeam combo, while Flamethrower covers Magnezone, one of the two Pokémon resisting BoltBeam, along with the normal Fire-Weak types. Finished off with Swift for a nice 90 BP after STAB and perfect Accuracy. As for the items, you should just chose whichever fits your playstyle best. In place of Flamethrower, you could also consider Shadow Ball for coverage against the more unusual types, too. I don't really feel that Focus Blast is needed here, as your Fire / Ice / Electric combo has almost everything covered that would be hit hard by Focus Blast, anyway, barring Aggron, Bastiodon, and pure Rocks IIRC. Many Rocks carry a Ground Subtype anyway, which Ice can play on.

^ Tbh, it was easy to miss. I only noticed it on my second time of checking through Zangoose's moveset. It's the only really viable Special Normal move that can be used here, and I think it works well In-Game given its STAB boost.

^ If you want a more offensive Lugia that can still stay alive in battle, can I suggest a bulky CM Lugia?

249.png

Lugia @ Leftovers
• Modest Nature
• 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpAtk
~ Calm Mind
~ Roost
~ Thunderbolt
~ Ice Beam

This thing can take some serious punishment, and then hit back incredibly hard. Simply take your time to set up, Roosting when you can, and then pummel everything in sight. I assume you're not using EVs, so don't worry about them if you don't want to. They basically give you a lot of power and bulk while being able to come in on Stealth Rock an additional time.

Thunderbolt and Ice Beam provide you with the infamous BoltBeam combo that covers everything in the game for at least neutral damage except for Lanturn and Magnezone. I used Roost > Recover because opponents playing into your weaknesses to Electric, Rock, and Ice will need to be dealt with and Roost can temporarily remove these weaknesses.
