Since its on the DS, do you think we will be able to send messages to other trainers in our area without the union room?

I Think maybe having call phones in the game or PDA's maybe would be a nice touch, instead of having to be in the pokemon center to do it.

For example, im in the mall and im sitting down playing the game, im on a route far from a pokemon centerr and my PDA goes off telling me theres another person around with the game and i can send them a message.

What do ya'll think?

I dunno bout that but on some other games if i remember correctly... if you're in a wi-fi area and you've got the notification on.... it'll give u a lil symbol at the top of the screen to show someone on ur list is online/

Hmm, If it dose take advantage of the Online Wi-Fi thingo. It will be a bit like the LG/FR/E union room. Just my 2 cents.

Well it could happen & it would be cool if they do it.

That'd be a good idea, but I don't think Game Freak will bother changing the Chat System, and you'll probably still need a Union Room in the Pokémon Center to be able to send messages.

But that would be a good feature if it were added to Diamond and Pearl, but I think there may be some flaws when using this kind of system. Like if the other person with the game was doing a challenge or sidequest or was battling, I don't think you'd be able to send Instant Messages to somebody who's busy battling with Pokémon.

You would have to be online a lot to recieve an instant message, and I don't think anyone wants to spend hours using wi-fi (connection problems, battery life). But otherwise, it would be cool. I don't know why they would add it though.

Here's how I think this idea could be crafted...

You state if you are available for chatting or not, much like setting up an away message. This will automatically be put up when you engage in a battle, but you can read what people write to you when you "return". The only snag I could see in this is that Gamefreak would want to keep the word bank in conjunction with this, which would be a big no should this feature ever hope to be useful, and beyond that slow text input. A Graffiti-like system in addition to a keyboard should be implemented to make text entry easier.

Is not that what the chat rooms built onto the DS are for? >>;

If there was something like that, you would need to have the other person's friend code. Nintendo would never allow you to talk to random people because pokemon is aimed at kids.

If you're talking IM and Email, that's what the future Opera Web Browser will be for. Why waste memory on something like that?

GOTCHA!
I think this idea is great. You could meet people in your area who like the same games as you and make friends in the process. I think it would be cool to be in a mall, school, etc and your DS goes off and it's from someone you don't know.

Meh. I don't know. It's highly unlikely, but very possible. I guess maybe...;munchlax;

That would be an awesome idea. Just add a bad word deleter and Buddy List thing where only people you accept can talk to you.

perhaps the devices that the DP trainers wear on their wrists have something to do with this?

Hm .. it would work .. but I can't see it happening, outside of the Union Room. I mean, how would they possible allow you to talk to people that are miles away, with no connections whatsoever? I just don't see the possibility.

My point exactly. like an "AIM" system. but yeh it would probably use alot of memmory and will probably not happen, but i would love to see a feature like this in a pokemon game, outside the union room.
