I don't know, this was my least favorite of the Dawn's return arc episodes, mostly because Dragonite acts like a jerk. I'm glad Iris was able to get through to dragonite and understand him before anyone else did, but I'm still not that fond of him. He reminds me more of Charizard back in the day than Dawn's equally uncontrollable Mamoswine, who never really rose to the level of jerk. I'm glad Dragonite doesn't remain a jerk long, but he still kind of rubs me the wrong way.

  2. I'm pretty much on the same page of Wobbanut when it comes to this episode. Only difference being, I'm giving it a 7/10. Other than that, my opinions are nearly dead-on with him for this episode.

I have mixed feelings about this episode.
    1. I like dragonite as a character. He is a strong deviation from the standard derpy kind looking dragonite that has traditionally been portrayed in the show. Hes aggressive, strong, but has a good heart and an awkward softy when he is approached with kindness. Plus I love dragon pokemon as a whole (I admit to modding my game during my 2nd/3rd playthroughs of them to allow me to have a dragon starter pokemon sometimes just because I rather not waste time leveling a starter pokemon only to ditch it later once I get my hands on a trapinch or any other dragon) (That or I just mod in a charmander as a starter because I consider him good middle ground alternative to having a dragon as a starter).
    2. Even as a person who loves dragon type pokemon and Iris as a character I too felt like her picking up a dragonite right off the bat is kinda ridiculous.
The spike in pure raw power of her team is astounding not to mention she gets it with very little effort on her part. If she got her hands on a Dratini and raised it into a Dragonite it would have been far more acceptable (plus it proves she can raise her pokemon not just pick them up). Though I still admit to having mixed feelings because I fundamentally like Dragonite as a character.
    3. She should have fought for it. The fact that Dragonite simply let her catch it is strange to me. Seeing how aggressive and battle-oriented a pokemon Dragonite is it would have made much for sense for her to have fought for it.

I loved this episode. It was nice seeing a Hydreigon at the beginning. I love Dragonite's personality and loved that he was captured.

This was an OK episode, Iris getting a fully evolved Pokemon on her team was unexpected. Personally I think Iris should have caught a Dratini and trained it instead of getting a Dragonite.

  7. I was thinking that If Iris wants to become a Dragon master, she'd better make it snappy and actually get herself some dragon Pokemon other than Axew.

Before watching this episode, I didn't really expect Iris to get a Dragonite in the anime because it's considered to be a pseudo legendary in the games and no other main character in the anime has obtained a pseudo legendary (not counting Ash's Goodra because he obtained it later and seems very obvious). Maybe she needs a more powerful dragon other than Axew.

Whoa Dragonite sure looked intimidating in some scenes, tho I liked his battle with Hydreigon and how he tried to protect the Pidoves. I was glad that Iris caught it too even tho they seemed like an odd pair. ^^

Iris getting Dragonite seemed excessive since she hadn't progressed as a Dragon Master much. She should've gotten something weaker than Dragonite. 6/10

    Well perhaps her lack of progress was why she caught this Dragonite? This way she didn't need to train it much or evolve it from a weaker stage. ^^;

  12. After so many seasons it's no wonder that this show is running out of ideas. This episode is basically a rehash times two because it reuses two plots from earlier episodes. One is the typical "Pokemon gets blamed for messing **** up, but was misunderstood the entire time", and the other is the typical "Pokemon doesn't trust humans, Ash and co must earn its trust".

Iris' reasoning for getting involved was horrible - "Dragon type Pokemon would never act this way"? Why does she feel such a need to clear the Dragonite's name? It's not like anyone was going to harm the Dragonite ... so there is no reason to care if she succeeds or not. Also it's a pretty predictable episode, since it's beyond obvious that she will succeed.

The capture was just strange. Even putting aside the fact that Iris at this point is clearly not ready to own a Dragonite. As we know, Dragonite doesn't obey Iris after being captured, so why does he make it clear that he wants her to be his trainer? This makes little sense to me. Throw in the fact that the conclusion of the episode was spoiled at the very beginning, and you can basically predict the entire episode, save for the capture.

I thought it was great seeing a Kairyu with a bad attitude because most Kairyu shown in the anime are cheerful, gentle giants. Sazandora attacking Kairyu kind of happened out of nowhere though, and I thought that Junsa was as incompetent as ever. Despite all that, I was fine with Iris capturing the Kairyu.

I actually found this episode entertaining at the very least and I'll admit it, if I didn't know that Iris and Dragonite would beat Mamoswine and Beartic two episodes later, I probably would've liked it even more.

I liked that Iris bonded with Dragonite, even though I would have preferred it to be a Dragonair instead. Dragonairs need to appear more. It really showed off Iris' connections with dragon types well.

Dragonite's hilarious rage faces aside, this was a pretty uninspiring episode. Meloetta and her posse of round, blue Water-types should really just butt out if all they're just going to do is chew up screentime, marketing be damned.

Oshawott and Piplup weren't that annoying here tbh. If anything, I didn't like how long Dragonite's anger gimmick was dragged out.

I prefer Hakuryu over Kairyu myself, so I do kind of wish that Iris had caught her Kairyu as a Hakuryu in this episode. It would've decreased some fan criticisms, too.

An alright episode. I liked seeing an unusually gruff Dragonite in the anime. I didn't like it when Hydreigon attacked some Pidove out of the blue. Although I wished Iris had caught Dragonite as a Dragonair, I never disliked the capture in this episode.

Pretty much everything that we saw Sazandora do here irked me since we once again had to deal with a rampaging pseudo-Legendary, which happens way too often.
