I don't know why people keeping bringing in other countries' fanbase when only the target audience in Japan is the only fanbase that matters to the writers and if they don't like BW, then I doubt it's because of Iris, and its most likely because of the change that happened to Team Rocket since their comedic part of their characters are extremely popular over there. I believe that Iris is pretty popular with the Japanese fanbase and will return sometime in xyz.

What would be the point on her returning?
Misty was basically the first companion (and the writers clearly didn't know what they were doing with the whole Togepi thing), but both May and Dawn came specifically for a contest tournament to further their own goals and met Ash and co by chance. Iris has no clear goal or purpose that would require her to travel to Kalos, so she'd literally have nothing to do in the episode she'd come back in unless we get something extremely forced or ridiculous. And if the only reason for her to come back would be to basically hang around without a real purpose and continue her childish antics while insulting Ash, then good riddence to the "old girl returning" pattern.

Though I guess if Ash regains Goodra they could always throw in a special Dragon user tournament where he can use Goodra and Noivern as preparation/training for the League and Iris just happens to enter too.
Thats pretty much the only possible plot for her, but I doubt there are enough episodes left before the league.

Iris returns because she heard Drasna was a master Dragon type specialists and wishes to learn from her. There, done. It's not as hard to put her in XY as you think she is lol

I don't care how "forced" it is, Iris deserves her comeback just like everyone else

I would like Iris to return for a competition or maybe to help with team flare. But it seems like her return will not happen with the limited time they have.

I don't think Iris should return just because there is a Dragon type user in Kalos. She should return if the writers want her to come back. Maybe she has a new goal of catching every Dragon type that is out there?

Me, I can see her traveling to Kalos wanting to meet and/or challenge Drasna (who should probably get an animated appearance just to be fair), and maybe try fighting Fairy-types.

My guess is that her reason for coming to Kalos would be to get the "Garchompite" (since XY and XY&Z is technically about Mega Pokemon). And it may or may not be related to Drasna.

As for fighting, she may challenge Ash and his Greninja because of Ash-Greninja form. But in no way would she challenge Serena to a match especially against Sylveon.

If Iris had a fear and hated 'Ice' type because they are highly effective against 'Dragon' type. Then think what would be her reaction to a 'Fairy' type who are not only highly effective but also negated any 'Dragon' type move damage.

Most likely we would be seeing a gag for the few episode she remains, with her constantly keeping her distance from Sylveon and Dedenne.

I still think she has a chance of appearing. The only real reason I have any actual doubt is because of Pikachu (most likely) not appearing in the final gym for the first time ever.. I guess the rematch could technically include it, but those chances seem slim to none.

If Iris doesn't come up when they announce the league, then I suppose I can accept she won't come back. It's too bad, because if they were to battle it would be neat to see Braixen take down Excadrill or Slyveon take out Gabite(assuming it's evolved).

I think them delaying her special meant that was her extra appearance.

I don't want her to be forced into the plot like Hikari(it was so dumb that she came to a battling contests and in the same place her friend was, if it was a contest it would make sense), so unless they make something that makes sense like a Dasna episode, I don't want more shoehorning nonsense and I really like Iris.

I'd rather they bring her back in the next gen - if she's in the new games due to it being the anniversary that'd give them a good excuse. Bringing her back right now could likely screw with the pacing IMO, though I guess she could work as a surprise league rival.

Considering how in the anime not that many people seem to even know of Zygarde or even of it's forms for that matter, and no one even seems to be really that much aware of Zygarde Complete form, it wouldn't make that much since for Iris to just somehow know about Zygarde and that it has different forms, if anything it would make a lot more since if she came to the Kalos region to meet Drasna, then it would for her to come and research Zygarde and it's forms.

Iris probably has a Gabite by now and maybe Axew evolved since she isn't in the main cast anymore. Not sure if she and Serena battle though. Serena does mostly showcase battles than proper pokemon battles but who knows.

I am really surprised that her cameo didnt happen already. Would be neat for a Dragon tournament with Drasna appearing, Ash could participate he has enough Dragons to compete as well, if Goodra comes back and it would be a great prep for the league. We shouldn't expect it pre movie though.

In an ideal world I would hope Iris will return as the champion of Unova during the Flare arc and have some special connection with Zygarde. But since it isn't I don't see her returning cause there aren't many episodes left for an arc.
