Is Charmander shafted?

Charmander had more episodes than say, Dunsparce but compared to the other two starters it didn't get that much screentime. Ash's evolved while his other Kanto starters did not. Also May caught the other two Kanto starters. So, I would say Charmander is shafted but maybe its a good thing we're not sick of it like Bulbasaur and Squirtle.

We're not talking about Ash's Charmander, we're talking about Charmander in general. The way I see it, D/P is just around the corner, so we'll probably have the standard "Let's get the first starters and the newest starters and have an episode about how they work together" filler sometime during that saga, so we'll see Charmander soon. Y'know, like "A Six-Pack Attack".

but for a basic starter, its appearances have been pretty damn low, don't you think? And PDL, I think that second mascot title's more liable to belong to Nyaasu.

Compared to the other Kanto starters it did have considerably less appearances, but I still wouldn't regard it as being shafted in any way.

Well, I always think of the HoSo with the three starters and that kid who was about to start his own journey. "Pallet Town! The Setting off of the Pokémon Trainer!" I think.
Squirtle got a lot of attention when Hajime tried to get its head out of its shell. Bulbasaur saved the day and was chosen as Hajime's first Pokémon.
Charmander? It almost drowned, it got saved, it was happy and it was returned to its Pokéball.

So compared to its fellow starters it was pretty much shafted there.
Otherwise, it has been pretty much mediocre =/

Back when I watched the old Kanto episodes I remember being under the impression that Charmander seemed to be every trainer's first choice. Even on the episode Ash first encounters his he says "When I first became a trainer, I was really disappointed because I couldn't get a Charmander". I also remember that his Charmander always seemed to dominate in battles, hence it evolved quickly.

I don't think that Charmanders as a whole have been shafted though, even if I haven't seen any for a while.

I think people need to read the post and read compared to the other two starters. Yes I agree that compared to others he hasnt appeared as much I wouldve actually prefered seeing May catch charmander rather than a Bulbasaur but W/E hopefully May will only catch 4th gen. and beyond starters after she managed to catch another certain somebody in the BF saga.

Charmander is hardly ever in the anime, so I think it's pretty much shafted. It did become one of the most popular Pokemon, Charizard, but Charmander itself is shafted.

People bash Charizard all the time, but it doesn't bother me. Charizard has been one of my favorite Pokemon for a long time now, I have a Lv.100 one that I used in tournament and it was good.

With her Combusken, a Charmander would be redundant. Bulbasaur was a better choice for her because it can do things her Combusken can't, making for a more balanced team.

Charmander deserved so much more than it got, but Charmeleon deserved it even more! Damn dragon taking up 70 episodes and winning once. ONCE!

I agree that Charmeleon was more shafted. It evolved VERY quickly, and we rarely saw the poor thing again
