Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's Altaria! (UU warstory).

IS IT A BIRD? IS IT A PLANE? NO, IT'S ALTARIA! (UU WARSTORY).

INTRODUCTION

8 January, 2010.

This is my third warstory. The first two were on Smogon.

Altaria is a bird, but I couldn't think up a better title. Sure, Altaria is a bird Pokémon, but not a non-Pokémon real-existence bird. Because of that, it is not that bad for a warstory title.

I built a very sucessfull UU Rain team. I was laddering, close to the leaderboard, and I came up against the same opponent four times in a row. I lost three times thanks to hax. This is the fourth and last battle with him. Will I get revenge? Will I get beaten again? Read the warstory to find out. Because I battled him before this match, I show his team before the warstory, I knew his team before starting and he knew mine. Earthworm watched. He watched, he watched my battles with the team on Friday 8 January 2010.

I have four Rain dancers.

The battle lasts 38 turns.

Highest position on the leaderboard with this team (I will update this if the highest position is higher than before): #5.

Please don't flame or troll, but tell me what's wrong in a nice way. I want to learn from my mistakes, but be nice to me, please.

Milotic

TEAM IN-DEPTH

I am posting my team too, so you can know my possibilities each turn and it is nicer to read.

480.png

Uxie @ Damp Rock
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 Spd
Impish nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Rain Dance
- Stealth Rock
- U-turn
- Toxic
Uxie has Damp Rock for Rain Dance. Max HP and Def for Physical bulk. One of my two supporters. Altaria is Specially bulky. Toxic is useful against many Pokémon. Gorebyss takes care of Toxicroak. U-Turn and Stealth Rock speak for themselves. Uxie is a nice, bulky, reliable lead also useful fr replenishing Rain or spreading Poison later in the game.

334.png

Altaria @ Damp Rock
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP/160 SDef/96 Spe
Careful nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Heal Bell
- Rain Dance
- Roost
- Dragon Claw
Altaria has Damp Rock for Rain Dance. Max HP for bulk. 96 Spe outspeeds a large group of Pokémon, including max Speed Aggron and everything trying to outspeed it by one point. Being too slow is annoying, even for a suppporter. The rest goes into SDef. One of my two supporters. Uxie is Physically bulky. Altaria has Roost to recover, Dragon Claw for offense, Rain Dance because this is a Rain team. Heal Bell make Altaria a cleric, very important. Own status is no problem, Natural Cure.

368.png

Gorebyss @ Life Orb
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 4 HP/252 SAtk/252 Spe
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Hidden Power Grass
- Ice Beam
- Psychic
- Surf
Gorebyss is pure about attacking. Surf is STAB. Ice Beam offers coverage. Hidden Power Grass deals with other Waters, Quagsire is more common than Mantine. Psychic deals with Toxicroak. Max SAtk and LO for power. Max Speed, I want to outspeed (and tie with other max Speed users) other Gorebyss and 252 Spe EVs are more useful than 220. If those 36 HP EVs were needed to survive a staple attack from a common Pokémon, Smogon would've mentioned it in the analysis.

272.png

Ludicolo @ Life Orb
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 4 HP/252 SAtk/252 Spe
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Hydro Pump
- Grass Knot
- Ice Beam
- Rain Dance
Ludicolo is my second sweeper. Three attacks are enough, and an extra Rain Dancer is always useful. Grass Knot over Energy Ball, for opposing Milotic. Hydro Pump and Grass Knot are STAB. Ice Beam covers Grasses, Venusaur hates it. Altaria too. Max Atk and Spe speak for themselves. Swift Swim goes before healing with Rain Dish, Swift Swim makes Ludicolo so awesome for this team.

141.png

Kabutops @ Life Orb
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spe
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Aqua Jet
- Stone Edge
- Swords Dance
- Waterfall
I run Max Speed, the mentioned Speed from Smogon is to outspeed Honchkrow. I think on a team like this, Speed goes before a little unneeded bulk. Swords Dance is nice when I find time to use it. However, I sweep without it too. Aqua Jet offers Rain+LO+STAB boosted priority coming off a very high Atk stat. STAB are Stone Edge and Waterfall, also nice coverage.

350.png

Milotic @ Life Orb
Ability: Marvel Scale
EVs: 168 HP/252 SAtk/88 Spe
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Recover
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Rain Dance
88 Spe outspeeds a large group of Pokémon, including max Speed Aggron and everything trying to outspeed it by one point. Max SAtk and Modest+LO for max power. Hydro Pump+STAB+Rain+LO kills many Pokémon. Ice Beam offers great coverage. Rain Dance goes before more coverage. Recover is very important, combining nicely with Life Orb and Milotics bulk. Milotic on a Rain team seems stupid, but its bulky, and Water STAB and great SAtk makes it a nice addition to a Rain team. When it comes to benefiting from Rain, Milotic is a good Pokémon.

This team was started with the idea Rain+Milotic. I wanted Milotic so I started with it. Then I needed suppurters, a Physically defensive and a Specially defensive supporter, also adding bulk. Three slots left: Kabutops and Ludicolo, the best Physical and Special sweepers in UU. I chose Lanturn. However, Toxicroak gave trouble and I lacked offensive power. Gorebyss was added over Lanturn, who did nothing important for most of the matches. Gorebyss worked better and gave me some extra power. A very good change.

WARSTORY

After every time a Pokémon dies, I will state how much Pokémon each player has left. AquaMilotic-SteveyFalcon.

I wanted Rain Dance as quick as possible. Before, he switched in Porygon-Z and Subbed, which starts killing many Pokémon on my team. I decided Rain Dance goes before Stealth Rock, to have a shot at winning.

Uxie can't break the Sub. Kabutops can. Nasty Plot is annoying. Kabutops will die, but did a good job.

Kingler used Agility.
Kingler's speed was sharply raised.
The rain continues to fall.

Agility. Luckily no Atk boost, Ludicolo outspeeds Kingler even after Agilityin the rain, I hope it stays in so it dies.

AquaMilotic: Good game. Finally. Now the battle is played.
Earthworm: well done aquamilotic
SteveyFalcon: lol
AquaMilotic: A deserved win.
AquaMilotic: Do you allow me to write a warstory for Serebii?
SteveyFalcon: whatever, i don't care, go ahead
AquaMilotic: Thank you.
SteveyFalcon has left the room.
FelGrand: Great match
Earthworm: there wasn't too much prediction
Earthworm: but it was close
Earthworm: it might be suitable for serebii
AquaMilotic: I will write a warstory.
AquaMilotic: This was a nice battle.
AquaMilotic: This is not a perfect match, but definitely not bad.
Earthworm: you made the correct logical moves
AquaMilotic: But first Serebii needs a warstory forum.
Earthworm: mostly
AquaMilotic: Reno (Serebii CRMT mod) has a thread to suggets ideas for the CRMT forum.
Earthworm: oh i know reno
Earthworm: he is in my channel on IRC
AquaMilotic: When it comes to competitive battling, Serebii only has RMTs, no discussion/warstories.
AquaMilotic: I suggested a competitive battling forum with subforums.
Earthworm: he is a friend of one of my very close friends
AquaMilotic: Warstories, RMTs, discussion, guides and others.
AquaMilotic: Now there is a warstory thread to post them all in. No separate thread for each warstory. It will probably be ignored if I post it there. I will post it as a thread when the subforum split happened.

After winning, I got compliments. This was a memorable match. Really enjoyable and close. After talking to Earthworm, we chatted further over Shoddy PM. I saved the log. Altaria was the saving Pokémon with its great stalling.

This warstory was written before the subforum split.

Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoyed it.

PROPS

- SteveyFalcon, for being a great opponent allowing me to write this.
- Altaria, for winning the battle.

- Not too much hax.
- Rain, for being a great battling condition for my team.
- Rain teams, for being so awesome.

SLOPS

- Kabutops, for doing a bad job and not doing much. However, it helped me against Porygon-Z.
- All small hax.

Wow...so many criticals from Cresselia. I was like cringing right there. This kind of battle won't happen again for a while since Porygon-Z and Cresselia moved to BL. I believe Gorebyss could've lasted longer and, being the best rain sweeper of UU, could've swept the other team if they were on shaky grounds. I'm quite confident that Gorebyss will make it to the BL2 tier because of its capabilities in the rain. Be proud of your team. It's nice and every Pokemon that gets a bump up in a tier should be a "Yes! Someone else sees my Pokemon's potential." From that, I'm talking about your NU Gorebyss. I can almost guarantee it joining the new tier.

Heh altaria has killed even without dragon dance. You won even when haxed.
