your trying to catch a pkmn? I went through a whole battery life of a fully charged sp trying to catch a groudon. 1-10 HP, usually asleep, one time i counted 80 sumthin turns and the timer ball failed along with him being weakened and asleep. whats the deal? bad luck? ;383;

Yeah, it pretty much is luck, Pokemon games reside on luck quite a lot.

And at least you didn't have as bad Groudon problems as I did. I got Kyogre and Rayquaza on my first try, but it took THREE straight days of trying (about five hours each day...of course, I was doing other things also) to finally nab Groudon. Even the music which sounded so cool got very tedious.

Likewise with Articuno in respect of Moltres and Zapdos. So keep trying, sometimes you may even get it when you least expect it, i.e. it stays in with full health, the game's just odd like that.

I caught a Raikou in a Pokeball once. I catch the legendries pretty easily, but I have use 20+ Ultra balls on a few Pokes and failed.

There is actually a catch rate for Pokemon. The lower the number, the harder to catch. I remember Rayquaza has a catch rate of 3, Groudon has 5. I can also remember that Makuhita is harder to catch than Hariyama!

What are the statistical odds of catching certain Pokemon?
I'm refering to code in the game.

The chart that I found was a mark out of 128 I think. 128 because it is 2^7 and numbers like that are easier to program. The website ive got it from deleted it, but there was a thread which had all the odds on it. It was in the General Pokemon Discussion. use the search tool.

Its just bad luck.
It took me 30 turns and one timer ball to catch my groudon.

I dunno... I'm never very lucky at catching legendaries. I believe sleep or freeze (though it's very difficult) is actually the best condition; if you have a strong pokemon with false swipe, bring it out when the legendaries in the red and a sleep and false swipe to one hp (don't let your swiper die though). At 1 hp asleep your chances for catching a pokemon are alot better.

...maybe train up a false-swipe/spore parasect and let parasect see some use for once!

Trouble is, you can only use it once. And luck in Pokemon works in strange ways, and the in-game trainers have unfair luck...

I also caught the Silver Ho-oh very quickly, but the Crystal Suicune took freaking years to catch. (well, half of the day)

It's harder to get the Regi's. They're a pain to catch. I waste like 100 Ultra Balls even having them paralyzed or asleep, and with a small amount of HP. >__<

I caught my Kyogre in Emerald with only a Dive Ball (or Net Ball, I don't remember) and my Groudon with several Ultra Balls.

i caught groudon on emerald with my fist POKE BALL, it was at FULL HEALTH with NO STATUS CONDITIONS and remember it was LVL 70!!!

edit: the regi's are HELL to catch.

FEAR MY CAPITALS!
