Is online play confirmed for D/P? the only thing I saw in the official Nintendo information was support for 16 player "WiFi" play. WiFi doesn't necessarily mean the Nintendo WiFi connection. No where have I seen the word "online" in any (reliable) information about D/P, but everyone seems to act like it is in for sure.

Wi-Fi means online play.

LAN means close together/DS to DS

So yes

I've seen the term "WiFi" being used to described close-range wireless linking. When they announce an online game they always emphasize the word "online" or use the term "Nintendo WiFi connection". Also every online DS game to date only allows 4 players to play together online, while allowing a bigger number of players to play together wirelessly. The info says the game supports 16 players for Union Room style gameplay via WiFi. The number seems to suggest that this "WiFi" is not online play.

The D/P FAQ states there will be online play twice:

Will Diamond and Pearl be online?
A: Possibly, and probably. An internet source is already claiming that Diamond and Pearl will feature online capabilities.

Where did this site get this information? was it in Coro Coro or some other reliable Nintendo information publisher?

The second time it states online play in the FAQ presents no sources.

Everyone is so certain that there will be online play but as far as i'm concerned, I don't see any reason to believe it will. Online play is the biggest addition to the pokemon series ever, and there are many technical difficulties to overcome in order to add it. I'm not so sure it will be in.

Deoxys Prime

Time will tell.
WiFi = internet

LAN = local

WiFi never ever meant local. WiFi is a yes.

Okay so what me and Zora are trying to say is that, Diamond and Peral probably have WiFi but sites are saying that it is confirmed so Yes it is confirmed. We have answered your question so a Mod can close this!

Animal Crossing: Wild World is Wifi and when you connected on Nintendo WFC, it's by no means local. I should know, I visited a friend's AC: WW town and he lives in Hawaii. So, if anything, the connection for Diamond and Pearl will be the same: Option for local and WFC.

Serebii.net has already confirmed it as Wifi compatible. Many other sources have said the same thing. WiFi is the net as people said. You are connected through an internet wireless router.

Not just AC: WW works this way. Mario Kart, Metroid hunters, Tetris and Tony Hawk are some of the other examples.
