• Hi all
Just a notice, we recently discovered that someone got into a moderator account and started hard deleting a load of key and legacy threads...around 150 threads have been lost dating back to 2007 and some weeks ago so we can't roll the forums back.
Luckily no personal data could be accessed by this moderator, and we've altered the permissions so hard deleting isn't possible in the future
Sorry for any inconvenience with this and sorry for any lost posts.

Is Ronald McDonald the actual cause of Child hood obesity?

I feel as though people think that the general fast food is unhealthy. Fast food is really just calorie-full, and should really only be consumed by athletes or those who workout alot. However, people have abused it to make it everyday foods. That's the problem.

I don't even think athletes should eat it. Well ideally nobody should eat it, one meal sometimes consist over-half of your recommended daily dose of sugars, fats, salts, etc. Its also filled with oil and other starches. Then sometimes you find hairs in your burger or boogies, or lord knows what, but that's beside the point.

But, I agree with you. People feel like its an everyday food to eat and that's the problem. I don't think eating a meal from Jack In The Box or any other establishment once a week or every other week is going to kill you. Even if you don't work out on a daily basis it won't kill you. People just go to the extreme and inhale that food like its air. In the end though when there on their hospital bed for heart complications they're going to blame the fast food.

Have you seen the chemicals they use to make fast food items?

Cost is another component that adds to obesity. If parents can't pay for certain foods, they just get whatever's on the Dollar Menu. I mean, it only costs a dollar.
Really, the FDA should really do something about the prices of foods. We are forced to purchase unhealthy foods cuz nutrition is costly.

You can easily feed two people with $10.

WTF? Ever been to MCD's?

Factoring in the tax on the dollar menu, the cost of three meals a day at McDonalds still comes out to four dollars every day. Meanwhile you can get a cheap loaf of bread and sandwich meat for almost the same price and it will support you for several days. You just have to know where to shop.

McFood is visibly more complex, includes a lot of different ingredients, and takes more labor to assemble, so it will to some degree cost more than assembling your own food.

I'm neutral about McDonalds, actually. I eat their food when I need to.

I think it's fashionable to hate on McDonalds now. It's probably some result of the documentary "Supersize Me" and McDonalds' own insufferable slogans. "I'm lovin' it"...it just makes you want to beat them up.

That viral video of McDonalds food refusing to decay; am I the only one who feels like it's not really that weird? The food doesn't decay because of the massive amounts of sodium and sugar in it. Salt is a preservative and sugar crystallizes. It's simple. Now, if the guy put the food in jars of gastrointestinal acid and it still didn't decay, then I'd be freaked out.

Yes. Yes, I have.
That stuff is so good, though.
McD really knows how to turn the right gears.
Our bodies naturally crave sugar, oil, and fat.
McD adds a crapload of that sh!t in their food and gets cudtomers coming back for more. And if kids eat this stuff, they'll continue to come back for more.

It's more of the parents fault for letting their kid get too fat.

This.

One thing I've noticed about fat kids: They have fat parents.

When I had Happy Meals, I never even cared about The Clown or the toys, I don't know anyone who did. I cared about the food.

And its not McDonalds fault, their trying to run a buisness. They don't care if people are fat. All these dumb people who thing, "We need to sue McDonalds and make them have healthy stuff" are stupid. That will make alot of people stop eating there, thus running them out of buisness, thus putting alot of people out of jobs, which we already have a problem with.

Ok guys! Be quiet God is speaking! Lets tackle (pokemon pun) this subject from different angles:
1. Politically: Mamalones from the big house like to screw around with the concept of capitalism, something which McDonalds is an everlasting symbol of...that big yellow arc brings mad hunger to starving kids in africa and satisfies late night taggers in britain...but what do politicians want to do? control this through an incorrect way. Whether we like it or not we have already signed the constitution with capitalism in mind, leave our economy alone! (most of it at least!)
2. Health wise: Don't blame McDonalds they are just doing their job...taking over the world. Its the duty of the parent to decide how to handle their child's eating habits before being old enough to make their own decisions...for those people who truly understand the concept of individualism it is their fault if they decide to eat this. A little McDonalds once in a while doesn't hurt anyone. God those freaking chicken McNuggets...dipped in caramel sauce...OH GOD! THE HEAVENS THUNDER!
3. Actual cause of Obesity: NOT THE FREAKING CHICKENS!?!??! being well for your body is not easy, it takes dedication and discipline. Sure you can eat two dozen chicken nuggets but if you burn it out later throwing 100+ pitches 98mph you'll be fine belly wise. Lack of exercise and natural air causes more obesity than McDonalds (just a hunch.)
4. Other health issues: I doubt that the main problem to worry about with McDonalds is obesity. I view the main problem whatever else the ingredients have...god knows how much cholesterol an egg McMuffin has and we all know Coca Cola is poison.

I rest my case, it is my birthday so I have mod immunity

No but what the Government should do is limit the number of stores like McDonalds and lower the costs of healthy food.

not bad
No but what the Government should do is limit the number of stores like McDonalds, so that we're forced to make our own food. Also it would help if healthy food was cheaper.

But then what about those who can't cook/support their family?

Take cooking classes and learn how to better manage their money. For example a burger might be cheaper at McDonald's than buying a loaf of bread, but in the long run a loaf of bread is better cos it will last longer and feed more people.

1. Many people would lose jobs.
2. The government shouldn't tell us what to eat and what not to eat.

1. Most people who work at places like McDonalds are only teenagers which means that even if they loose that job, it probably won't have a big effect on them.
2. I didn't say that they should ban McDonalds altogether...

I never thought of assuming the title of God on my birthday before...Happy Birthday. ^_^

What does Africa and Britain have to do with the constitution...? 0_0 You're all over the place.

2. Health wise: Don't blame McDonalds they are just doing their job...taking over the world.

That's totally not a loaded statement. *sarcasm*

A little McDonalds once in a while doesn't hurt anyone. God those freaking chicken McNuggets...dipped in caramel sauce...OH GOD! THE HEAVENS THUNDER!

Not a loaded statement either. *more sarcasm*

I think the subject is mainly whether we should regulate the unhealthy food, whether it's unhealthy because of the fat or cholesterol. Granted the title involves obesity, but it wouldn't be majorly different if we were talking about a different problem.

Also, you don't have to get Coca Cola. They have bottled water and lemonade.
