Is the Manga Good?

Will I be confused if I start reading the manga from the beggining of the Hoen saga? I want to start there because Ruby is my favorite character because I have a few of his Pokemon, but I have a darker taste of Pokemon still.

Back to the point, is the Hoen Region Manga good?

Also where are a few places I can buy the manga?

You will not be confused if you pick up the R/S arc. Unlike the G/S arc, it's a seperate entity all it's own. The other arcs (Emerald and especially FR/LG) all play off previous entries, but R/S is basically void of any past manga references.

Well it's awesome I like it better than the anime but only the first 7 volumes are translated I got the other volumes from yesasia but they are in Japanese so if you want to read them you have to know Japanese

The volumes that Viz "officially" translated are good and Chuang Yi won't let you down with their efforts. The manga is great and works well as an alternate adventure to that seen in the anime.

I have only read the RBG summaries and I'm already hooked on pokémon manga. Too bad they don't sell it in Portugal... :(

Actually the manga is so far superior to the anime, it's close to the games and really well describes the world of pokemon. their characters have good personalities and goals. it's just...better imo

So when will the Hoen saga of the Manga be translated since its not?

My favorite character is Ruby, and since he is not in the anime and you are him as a guy in the game the manga is only way to find out about him.

You're not in luck. Viz hasn't translated the manga since they finished the Yellow saga, which was well over...8 years. :\

Ruby =/= Yuuki

Ruby is just based on Yuuki. Yuuki, the character you play as in the games, has absolutely no personality at all so you could project yourself into the character using your imagination.

Well, everyone is entitled to their own opinion and there may be some who prefer the anime or some, like me, who like both equally...

Brendan or not the mangas are very cool. In my opinion, Ruby and Sapphire isn't the greatest manga unless you intend on reading the Battle Frontier manga. If you want to know about this stuff, the summaries are beyond good enough.

I personally find the manga much more enjoyable than the anime, mainly because the different generations had different main characters and never really focused on one character throughout every series.

As for "New beginings" wise. I would reccomend the R/S manga, mainly because it has verry little to no references to the other older stories.

and the Groudon/Kyogre incident in the manga was ALOT better than the Groudon/Kyogre incident in the anime.

As for finding English translations, you're pretty much S.O.L, unless you're able to order online, then I keep hearing good things about Chuang Yi and that would be your best bet. I personally have the entire R/S series in original Japanese(except for vol. 22, which I need to go get) but not everyone can read Japanese(I'm not very good myself, but i'm working on it), or live near a Japanese bookstore. So, it's what you can work with

Actually, he appears in the anime once. if you watch the jirachi movie, you will see him in the opening with two of his pokemon for about 2 seconds...

There are also other pokemon mangas made by other manga artists, they are all great, but read pokemon special first.

Agreed. Pkmn special should be your first choice. Some of the others are decent, but i find the rest...bleh.

Fully support this statement. Most of the anime characters are really 2-dimensional. The manga on the other hand has no such problems whatsoever with its characters.

And most importantly, it has what every story needs. An engaging PLOT. What little storyline the anime is clinging on to can hardly be called that.

i agree, but it is too long and never ending... you may consider reading those that have aready ended (such as electric tale of pikachu and gold silver) before reading pokespecial...

It may be long and have no end in sight, but it allows you to get engrossed in the story and really get to know the characters.
