Is This Game Worth Buying?

I am asking this because I live in the UK and yesterday, I purchased the most recent Nintendo Official Magazine with the review for Pokemon XD.

In the review, it said how it is an exact clone of Colosseum and how it would be hard to get excited while playing it. One thing I agree with is that this game should have been a new 3D RPG based on the handheld versions (tall grass, many wild pokes, Gym battles etc.).

Overall, it only scored 58%. So XD scores lower than some utterly rubbish 3rd party games and my question is... is it worth buying when it comes to the UK or should I save up for something else?

Get Geist first! XD can wait.

It's cheaper (should be) and more fun. Has a mulitplayer feature and takes longer to complete.
Geist, then Pokemon XD. This is my run up of GC games! I'm only really gonna get it for Lugia.

IMO, it's not as great as others, but it didn't deserve the same as Mario Baseball. Only get it if you were interested in Colo, or you want a game to interest you for a while. But I still don't get how the Mario football game could get a better score. IMO deserved about sixty-something percent at least. Glad to see Torouse got a good score though.

GOTCHA!
I'd get XD. My brother got Mario Baseball a week before I got XD and I think both games are awesome!

EDIT: Earth Trainer!!!

Yeah, i think NOM was a bit harsh with the score it gave XD. But then, the writers arn't as hardcore fans of pokemon as those who are in these forums. Personally i don't believe everything i read in the magazines.
Remember Sonic Adventure 2: battle? NOM didn't like it much at all to begin with (as it was almost exactly the same as on dreamcast) but the majority of people who played it thought it was a brilliant game, far beyond the score it origionally got.
Just goes to show that you need to make your own choices sometimes.
I'm going to buy XD regardless of NOM's opinion.

But they're still big fans. Pokemon games automatically get a good score because they're pokemon most of the time.

Make a list of good and bad things about Pokemon XD. Whichever column has the most chooses if you wanna get it or not. Don't do little things like 'I don't like it because you start off with weak pokemon' and stuff like that.

Yeah, you're right. They are big fans of Pokemon. I remember that a couple of issues back, Tim Street said that the NOM team haven't shown much that they are big fans of Pokemon. I guess they still need to fairly criticise every game after all.

I thought it was a bit harsh with some comments, though. And I dunno about anyone else, but I actually prefer starting with weaker creatures. It gives you time to build them into something that you want them to be.

What I may do is buy the game next week, play it for a while, and if I don't like it, I'll take it back or sell it on Ebay (for a reasonable price mind you.).

Yes I just got NOM today and I wish I didn't
coz I thought they were really harsh
I only got to play pkmn xd once at the tour and I thought it was very good. True the game could have been designed like the GBA games...
Nintendo should really do a survey and see what the fans would like to see in the games.

Basically if you enjoyed Colosseum then you will enjoy XD. A lot of reviews are completely laying into XD for being a carbon copy of Colosseum and yet having not played XD I know that to be false. Things like a higher ratio of Kanto Pokemon, XD exclusive moves, Lugia, graphical improvements, different story all stick out to someone who knows Pokemon.

I’m not saying XD isn’t similar (it certainly is) but many sequels are like that. If it was named Pokemon Colosseum 2 maybe people wouldn’t be so quick to point out the similarities between Colosseum and XD. I think it’s been unfairly reviewed by a large number of places simply because the reviewers don’t really know Pokemon. It’s like when you read a fantastic review of GTA SA and then think it looks just like GTA VC but with a new character. To the reviewer it’s usually so much more because they know the game. XD should be an enjoyable experience for anyone who likes Pokemon and that's why I'm looking forward to Friday.

Heck yes its worth buying!! Why you ask?

1. New Pokemon RPG game!
2. 3-D graphics and stuff
3. 83 different shadow pokemon
4. Better VS mode ond colosseum
5. Battle Disks and Bingo
6. Contains the popular Shadow Lugia

and that all!

Don't this is the only that you can Lugia without having to go to the event.

Surprise buttsecks!
one reson nom really laid in to XD is because your going over the same land befor a lot of people that review it will say OMG thay put the same land that must= lazyness i dont care if it was to do with lazyness or if it was to make people that played colosseum feel at home i think it is a good idea to revist orre.

oh yeah and its only way most people that can get lugia in the uk and the lugia of xd has specail moves.

PKMN Legend Anthony

Water Gym Leader.
And dont forget the Lucky Egg!! XD makes the lucky egg easilly obtainable wich IMO takes out the rareity of the Item after all my hard work of finding it on a Chansey u can get it with ease in XD but its good for those who dont have it.

Ihave a Lugia and a Lucky egg but am getting XD no matter what it will still be a good game!

Silver Fusion

Hyper Coordinator
I'm also unsure about XD. I played it at the Deoxys event. I got the snag machine. Snagged a pokemon. Got bored.

I'll get it to complete my game collection and for the Lugia.

But if NOM hated the "same land" thing, wouldn't they also of hated FireRed/LeafGreen or Gold/Silver/Crystal for that?

Medical Meccanica

I loathed Colosseum but I liked XD. Not sure why.

Well, get it if you're a hardcore fan or an imulse buyer who MUST HAVE EVERY SINGLE GAME (me :p), or if you want to kick your XD-less friend's butts with Lugia or you just want somethign to do. If you don't fall into any of these categories then you'd probably be better of getting somethign else.

Well i've decided to not listen to reviews for now and give the game a go, and I reccomend everyone else to do the same. Reviews can't always be reliable for finding out about games.

I played Colosseum for the first time in a while yesterday and found that I quite enjoyed opening Pokemon's hearts, and if there are other methods to purify as well as more places to battle in XD then it's bound to be a lot of fun.
