My cousins have a collection of Pokemon games. Among them is a silver cartridge with the Japanese sticker for Pokemon Silver on it. Now, cousins claim that it used to be in Japanese, but is now in badly translated English. What I want to know is, is this a legitimate card that has been tampered with, or one that is fake?

If it's badly translated english, it's probably either a bootleg or one of the Terafang games

If it is a Telefang game, it will say strange things about 'the electric monsters world', if not it is more than likely a partly translated version rushed into translation to sell before it came out elsewhere.

It's a fake - it's a fan-hack of the Japanese ROM which has been downloaded by pirates and made into fake copies of the game.

They were made not long after Gold and Silver came out in Japan since people desperately wanted them in English (of course, English versions of the game didn't exist at this point) so they were big sellers for the pirates.

The Japanese version of Silver will be a split colour cartridge - dark blue/navy on the front half and a purple/dark purple for the back half. Japanese Gold is the same colour scheme but the locations flipped (ie. dark blue on the back, purple on the front).
