Yes it is true. You can find some G/S monsters after you beat the E4 while having 60 Pokemon on your Pokedex.

In terms of absolute monster count, yes, I believe so. However, Fire Red has less overlap with Ruby/Sapphire (which is why I bought it). Then again, Leaf Green is the only game with the Slowpoke family availible. XD covers all the Fire Red exclusives. Why, GS?

To summarize; With XD, LeafGreen is only missing the Oddish line. The Oddish line is in RSE. LeafGreen for the Kanto Pokédex completing win, as it alone holds the Slowpoke line.

XD should NOT have had Growlithe. (Either that or there should've been a shadow Slowpoke family member.) By putting all of the Fire Red exclusives into XD, they swindled us Fire Red owners.
