It doesn't matter how many new Pokemon they add...

...the only thing that matters is how many good usable Pokemon they add. They can add 50 Pokemon for all I care, but if all of them are good and able to fight well, I can be happy, because I can use them ALL. All 50 of them. But if they added 300 new ones and I could only use three of them, then well, I'd be extremely sad. Because I wouldn't be able to use 297 of those 300. I could only use 3. Anyone else catch my drift?

The thing is that they don't make Pokémon based on "competitiveness". They just make Pokémon if they can cater to the audiences and use as many ideas/concepts as possible.

The game is unbalanced, and there's bound to be Pokémon that'll be not very good in a competitive scene. Following the basic structure, most early-on Pokémon will be completely useless outside early in-game play. Several gimmicks will be made as well. It's just the way it is. Plus, there's no need to make everything usable, even if it's desirable.

A few will be usable, some will be decent, and other will be useless. As a start, we can rule off lower Stages to start with. And as always, most final Stages will be at least OK. Some will disappoint, though.

Plus, the competitive aspect is just one side of Pokémon's depth. There's more, which is bound to be both more variated and more fun than a stale world of overused crap...

I agree with both stigy's and Orion-Sama's posts, they raise excellent points.

I care not if they produced 200 pokemon and only 20 were usable, in serious battles i'll only train and use those 20. The rest i'd use anywhere, ALL pokemon are usable, example, my Metapod pwns opponants quite badly in LG. xD

I hate people who come around like this, and rant about having "good" Pokémon. Every single Pokémon m,ade to date can be good, as lone as you put it to use correctly. Hack, my Skitty pwns Drake's Salamence, constantly, and it's a tiny kitten. Come on!

I actually like it the way it is now with a handful of useful Pokemon, and then a bunch of rare less useable ones. To me it adds to the fun having many new Pokemon to collect.

Despite my literal worshipping of Louis Sullivan for his "form follows function" policy, I actually like to see the designs of the new Pokemon more than anything else. Sure, some of them might occupy the bottom rung when it comes to competitive battling, but it's good for me to see if Gamefreak is using good influences in its Pokemon.

That being said, however, I wouldn't like to see them neglect this generation when it comes to competitive battling. Although they can't know for sure what will and won't work, generally they should promote good stats and good typings for certain Pokemon. Looks still only go so far to earn a Pokemon redemption, for when it comes to actually battling with them it's all about the numbers and move compatibilities.

I like a fair mix of strong, ok and weak!

I would not want 2 many Super great pokemon as it will make it hard 2 pick a team however i want enougth so i have a gd and balanced choice. They should make 1 super strong competive pokemon 4 each type with a few semi strong 4 the more common and popular types.

However weak ones althought not great in battle r often the best pokemon in terms of character and looks. Also they may be better in contests (if they r in D/P).

I sure hope the starters are great! the 3rd gen starters rocked so this gen needs 2 be really gd!

Pokemon is more than battling, which is why "useless" pokemon still have a useful edge in other areas. Besides, if all pokemon were superpowered, there'd be no fun of figuring out which ones are better/worse to use.

I've thought of this concept (below) for a while, but never really felt it warranted it's own thread.

Anyway, I feel that Gamefreak should have an R&D. This isn't to assume they don't already, but it should seriously be like the R&D at Wizards of the Coast. That company produces several games that have been popular for as long, if not longer than pokemon. Last year was Magic: the Gathering's 10th anniversary. It's still such a strong and popular game.

Maybe if they wanted to have more competitive worthy pokemon, they could start their own Future Future League, where developers are already working with the next generation, testing out possibilities of each pokemon for Battles, double battles, contests, and novelty. They can still have "bad" pokemon, because the game has to have them to make the others "good."

Besides, pokemon, as stated, doesn't necessarily have Too bad of pokemon, most of my fodder becomes contest bait, or breeding slaves. I raise them to pass on egg moves, but they're never really used competitively. Just my .02

Amen. I totally agree.

Most of the People dont pay attention to a pokemons design or to it's story/background. They listen to the others and use only the competitive "strong" pokemon.

You mean like how I was dissapointed with hoenn ;201-?;
But I have more faith in this gen then I did with hoenn.
I feel like this is gonna be my new... Crystal
(And I shall honor crystal by getting my Colosseum feraligatr and send it to DP because he's just like my crystal feraligatr and to farther honor crystal I shall name my character... Scicky! (Including the exclamation mark)

they need to make atleast 500 this time around and they'll have heaps of usefull pokemon but usefull in their certain ways

...lol.

That aside, let's face it; not all Pokemon are created equal. No matter how much someone wishes that if they train their Luvdisc just right it'll stand up to a Tyrannitar, it just isn't going to happen. Like Orion said; there will be the great, the good, the decent, the bad, the horrible, and the "Why does it exist?"

I use pokemon I think will help my quest and not slow me down too much (For example I refuse point-blank to raise a Nicada or a Slakoth, but don't mind Skitty).
There will be some crap pokemon (Think Dunsparce) and some good pokemon (Cacnea at times) and some great pokemon (Wingull, Elecktrike are very good examples)
I just hope that the pokemon that are good at competetive battling aren't legendaries, because I hate legendaries...
