Most areas that there are a isolated thing (Rock, single title with cutted grass, or an almost invisible signal) you can try the Itemfinder.
Underwater, Rotue 103 (IIRC), Rotue 116, Lilycove Beach are some places I can remember you can use it.

I usually find stuff on the beach. The items aren't even that good though. Mostly Ultra Balls and Hyper Potions

For best results "SEL" the itemfinder so its easy to use without the menu. Then walk around and randomly press select so it activates the item finder. if youre lucky you will find a jack pot. When the item finder beaps it means a item is barred somewhere from where your standing. just do a quick a searc.
