Itunes Help!

I just recently got a Macbook. It has Itunes, but when I plugged in my Ipod Itunes came up but my songs didn't load on to the library. Is there anyway I can get my old itunes library (on my old laptop) on to my Macbook? Or do I have to start over?

Or, alternatively, use an external HD or something to transfer them from your old computer.
