JAA New York (Garden City)

Pikachu

NW Tourney Winner
The JAA thread was deleted for some reason and I didn't where to post this.

Me, 3 of my friends, and my brother went to the event. It’s a great thing that we came early, because we were able to collect some of the top 20 before the line got huge (and it never got any smaller during the whole event). We also got to capitalize on Celebi as well. However, they only gave 4 pokemon of your choice (I never got what I promised to get, which was many of them, but at least I got all of the pokemon I voted for as well as Blaziken and Dragonite) on each visit. The second line was extremely long and made my legs hurt. I was able to pick up a few blue bags, watch (mostly) bad episodes of pokemon, and other swag. The only former I’ve ever found was Zapdos560.

I was able to enter the tournament and I was in group 2. It was some time before I finally got to compete. The first round was exciting. I actually fought against someone in my league and won. My opponent had some nice Zapdos and Kyogre, but I was able to defeat it with Metagross and Groudon. Some note that, I actually told my opponent to use Ice Beam against Groudon instead of Water Spout, bad move (because Mewtwo didn’t defeat Kyogre as planned. All my other friends won their battles.

Next round was even more challenging. I was up against someone who had Salamence, Kyogre, Mewtwo, and Tyranitar. My Explosion plan failed when Salamence flew and Metagross was KO’d (forgot how). It came to my Snorlax against his Tyranitar. Snorlax’s EQ> Tyranitar’s EQ. Two of my friends won, while the other lost.

I was paired up against one of my friends! He battled with Rhydon, Metagross, Tyranitar, and Raikou. Mewtwo, Metagross and Groudon were good here. I came out on top by defeating Tyranitar with Groudon’s Brick Break. When I was done I was watching Zapdos560 battling against someone, I thought he won, but he lost. The friend I didn’t battle won his match.

My next opponent was the one who beat Zapdos560. He was one of the hardest guys I’ve ever fought against. Light Screen and Reflect screwed me up and I didn’t have Groudon to counter it. I barely took out Latias and while he KO’d my Kyogre and Mewtwo as well his own Mewtwo. Light Screen wore up just in time so Mewtwo could score the final Ice Beam (with a critical hit thanks to Scope Lens) to his Groudon. He was upset when this happened. Looks like I’ve haxed him. :p Things didn’t go well for my friend because of a unsuspected Explosion from a Quick Clawing Snorlax.

I made it to the semis and my friends were cheering me on. I happened to score the first KO. However, after doing another Protect with Groudon (and failing) as well trying to Explode with Metagross, I nearly killed myself when Groudon was Ko’d. Good thing, Metagross had shared the same fate or I would have been defeated in the most embarrassing way ever (btw, it was Mewtwo and Kyogre who defeat them with Ice Beam and Hydro Pump respectively). Ho-Oh managed to defeat Kyogre, but did not hold its own against Snorlax and Mewtwo. Oh well. At least, I managed to do very well in a tournament. My prize was the rare Emerald guide book.

The one who beat went on to win the finals by destroying his opponent’s entire team with Kyogre, Kingdra, and Qwilfish. Another note is that he had a shiny Gengar in his team. After we left, we ate at Wendy’s, then I bought a Munchlax hat and then we left.

I had one of the best times ever. I finally got to make it very far in a tournament. Never did that before.

EDIT: Darn, I was beat. I noticed no threads until after I typed this up and posted this.
