Jessie's hair color

Anyone remember when it used to be red? I think they changed to its current, more purplish color in Johto(?), but I could be mistaken. I wonder what accounted for the change... anyone know? I doubt it was the character's choice, more like a change in art direction. I just wonder why.

Anyway, um, for the sake of conversation... which did you prefer? I myself like the red. Twas brighter and matched her vibrant personality IMO.

Yeah, they did. The first time we saw it purplish was in the Elekid episode I believe, where James loses his Victreebel (err, both of them, that is to say).

I think it changed subtly even before that though, when it was still cel animation. If you look back to the very first episodes, it was bright, bright, fire-engine red, and by the time we got into Johto (before the switch to the digital animation) it was more of a subdued, pink-red.

I personally prefer the red, since as you say, I think it suited her fiery personality a little more...

Right now, she looks to fruit-punchy. That stupid digital animation changed James hair into this weird lavender and made Misty's face tomato pink

If they kept the red with the new animation that would be good. I dont mind the purple/pink hair. Doesnt it go back to red in some of the movies though? The movies are like a different type of art and animation i think. Havent watched a pokemon movie in awhile.

I prefer the toned-down purplish-pink of the digital animation era. Prior to the switch, Musashi and Kojirou's hair colors were just a little too bombastic for my tastes - I prefer it when the villains have a little bit of subtletly, even if it's just in their character designs.

I like it as it is now, but as said earlier, the movies are different, and I think the animation in that is best because of the time and effort spent on it.

If that's true--and, upon further investigation, it does appear to be--I wonder what accounts for the change specifically. I can't imagine that the digital process is incapable of producing that shade of red.

Oh well, I guess it adds one extra point of special for the movies (...if you're the kind to care about hair color that much).

i like the pinky purple a bit more,
stereotyplically Pink is femine and blue is masculine so it balances them out a bit

Well, this probably isn't the real reason, but Jessie seems a little stereotypical. I mean red haired people, especially women are stereotyped as being hot tempered, which is what Jessie's personality is. When people thought that Jynx was a stereotype, it was changed from black to purple, so maybe Jessie had the same thing done to her. As I said before, this probably isn't the real reason, but it's a thought.

I liked the look of the characters a lot better before the show went digital. Magenta hair suited Jesse, and James looked better without the lavender tint to his. And Misty's blindingly pink skin just killed her look; it looked much better milky

That's....pretty sad....

I realised the change in colour back in Johto, but then I grew accustumed to it, and in little more then 5 episodes afterwards I couldn't tell the difference.

It's inconsistant sometimes. But I miss the red.

I like the red color more, the thing i noticed the most with the digital change was misty's hair color though.

Yeah, her hair coloured did used to be more red red. Good, it wasn't just me. I notice the changes in Misty's hair and skin as well, thought my eyes got worse when no one brought it up. ^^"

Do us all a favor and don't try to act like you know what you're talking about when it's blatantly obvious that you don't.

Despite purple being my favorite color, I much prefer their hair without that strange tint they've added in. :/
