Chapter Seven:
“So, this is Mt. Moon, huh?” Danny asked aloud, obviously knowing the location of where he and Hiromi were.
“Yup.” Hiromi agreed, staring into the dark emptiness of the entrance before them. “Oh, that reminds me!”
Hiromi grabbed her green pokeball out from her bag, and tossed it into the air, revealing her outstanding Butterfree. “Hey there Butterfree, I think its time you get some exercise for those wings of yours.”
“Free-reee,” Butterfree hummed, stretching out its patterned white wings.
“Well, lets get going.” Danny said, tightening the straps on his book bag. “I want to get to Cerulean as soon as possible.”
The three made their way into Mt. Moon. When they got inside, a cold clammy gust of air blew into their faces. The walls on surrounding them were damp with moisture, with stalactites and stalagmites growing out from the ground and ceiling.
“Wow,” Danny exclaimed, astonished at the sight of the large cave. “This might take a while to get through.”
Danny, Hiromi, and her Butterfree walked further into the mountainside cave, which became damper and cooler the further they walked. Danny put his hands up to his mouth cupped together, and blew warm air into them.
“Where do we go now?” Danny asked, when the three came to a fork in the tunnel.
“Umm, I guess left.” Hiromi suggested, having just as much clue as Danny did.
The three took a left at the crossroad, and began to hear a low, rumbling sound.
“Does anyone else hear that noise?” Danny asked, looking around to find the source of the annoying buzz.
“Now that you think about it, I actually do.” Hiromi answered, perking her ears, trying to get a better idea of what the sound was.
“Meh, as long as it doesn’t affect me I don’t care, lets keep going.” Danny suggested, continuing to walk through Mt. Moon.
“Yea, I guess.” Hiromi mumbled to herself, following Danny.
“Toooneeee.” Chimed a mysterious figure, flying right in front of Danny and Hiromi. The figure continued speeding away in the opposite direction of Danny and Hiromi.
“What was that?” Danny asked, violently turning around to see what just sped by him.
“Th-that was a, Lunatone.” Hiromi said, her voice full of fear and dread.
“What's wrong, are you ok?” asked Danny, concerned.
“Yea, it’s just that if you look into Lunatone’s eyes, you’re transfixed with fear.” she said, calming down a little. “At least for just a moment or two.”
“So you could tell that was Lunatone just by getting fearful from a glimpse of its eyes?”
“Yea, but Lunatone aren’t even native to Kanto, only a select region in Hoenn.” Hiromi said, confused that Lunatone was spotted in Mt. Moon.
“So something must be wrong for it to be this far away from home, right?” Danny said, still looking in the direction of flying Lunatone.
“Most likely, they never stray far from Meteor Falls.” Hiromi stated, scratching her head. “I think we should go after it.”
“Yea, let’s go.” Danny said, running off in the route that Lunatone took.
Danny and Hiromi began running off in the direction of Lunatone, with Butterfree hovering above their heads. Danny and Hiromi continued rushing towards the Lunatone, until at last they reached a manmade hole in the ground, with a rope ladder dangling down.
“Crap!” Danny exclaimed, balling his hands into fists, and thrashing them up towards his head. “There’s no way we can find that stupid Lunatone.”
“Calm down Danny.” Hiromi said tranquilly. “Try releasing Exeggcute and having them use Confusion to trace tracks of psychic Pokemon.”
“Hey, good idea.” Danny grabbed Exeggcute’s pokeball from his belt, and tossing it up into the air. “Exeggcute, use Confusion to try and locate any other psychic Pokemon in the cave.”
“Exeggcute!” the six eggs exclaimed, there eyes glowing bright blue. After a moment or two, one of the Exeggcute’s gave a yelp, indicating that they found psychic another psychic Pokemon.
“Good job Exeggcute.” Danny congratulated. “Lead the way.”
“Egg-Exeggcute!” Exeggcute yelled, and began rolling in the direction from which it traced Lunatone.
Danny and Hiromi followed the six Exeggcute dash throughout the cave, until at last they came to yet another manmade hole. The Exeggcute stopped at the hole, jumping up and down around it.
“Looks like Lunatone fled down there,” Danny said, looking around, making sure there was nothing else around. “What's that?”
Danny walked over to a large rock sticking out of the ground, similar to that of a stalagmite, though it wasn’t nearly as tall, and more round than the others. Danny examined the rock, and found something extraordinary.
“This is, a Moon Stone!” he exclaimed, dislodging the rock from the ground, and shoving it into his bag. “Ok, lets go!”
Danny and Hiromi made their way down the hole, with their Pokemon following. Butterfree flying down, and Exeggcute using Confusion on itself to levitate down. When Danny and Hiromi made their way down, they heard that horrific rumbling noise yet again.
“Argh, what is that noise?!” Danny screamed, covering his ears.
“It sounds like a drill, but from what?” Hiromi questioned, looking around the vicinity.
“Exeggcute!” the tiny pink Pokemon yelled, rolling again towards where they detected Lunatone.
“Come one, no time to worry about that now, follow Exeggcute!” Danny yelled, following his Exeggcute yet again.
After about five minutes of running, Exeggcute stopped, facing the Lunatone.
“So, that’s a Lunatone?” Danny remarked, staring wildly at the psychic Pokemon. “It looks like a crescent moon.”
The moon like Pokemon was a stone-like beige color, and it had two, large intimidating red eyes. Growing out from the middle of the crescent was a beak-like protuberance, with craters indented all around its moon shaped body.
Facing Lunatone was a rather tall shady looking person, wearing an all black uniform. The mysterious person wore a pair of black leather gloves, stretching all the way up to the elbows, and a pair of similar boots from the knees down. Embedded on the persons shirt was a giant crimson colored letter “R”, and wore an all black hat.
“Hey, who are you?” Danny called out, reaching out from Aron’s pokeball.
“Damn, you again.” said the person, revealing by the tone of voice to be a boy. This person removed their hat from atop their head, revealing a familiar looking face.
“You’re!” Danny exclaimed, recognizing the person before him as the boy with the Nidorino that he defeated outside on Route 3. “You’re with Team Rocket?”
“Hmph, you again.” He scoffed, reaching for a pokeball from his gray colored belt. “Nidorino, Double-Edge.”
“Aron, Iron Defense!” Danny called, releasing his Aron right before him. “Hiromi, take care of Lunatone, will you?”
“Yea, take care of him for me.” Hiromi commented, running around him towards Lunatone.
Nidorino connected with Aron, slightly budging it from its spot.
“Aron, Headbutt!” Danny ordered, the tiny metal clad Pokemon rushing at Nidorino.
“Double Team, then charge the kid with Double-Edge again.” he calmly ordered, his voice void of emotion.
Aron continued to charge Nidorino, who immediately created doppelgangers of itself, surrounding Aron. Aron rammed into one of the Nidorino, only to have it disappear at once. The remaining copies of Nidorino vanished as well, leaving only the original. Nidorino then charged forward towards Danny, ramming its side into Danny’s chest, sending him flying a few feet back. Aron looked on helplessly as its trainer was sent flying.
When Danny finally landed, his book bag flew off, scattering random objects on the floor, including his newly obtained Moon Stone.
“Hoo, you got a Moon Stone I see.” remarked the other trainer, laughing at Danny. “Nidorino, get the Moon Stone now!”
Nidorino gave a low grunt, and charged towards the Moon Stone in front of it, crushing it with its foot. Nidorino began the glow a bright white light, as it began to grow. What once were its hind legs were now sturdy looking feet, with its arms similar. Nidorino was now bipedal, standing on its hind legs. It grew a large slithering tail, along with steel-like hide. When the light subsided, what once was Nidorino was now a massive Nidoking.
“Kiiing!” the monstrous beast roared, pounding its chest with its thick arms.
“Hey kid, lets see you handle Nidoking.” the boy sarcastically said, laughing at the top of his lungs. “Mega Punch that tiny iron piece of crap to oblivion!”
Nidoking’s fist began glowing bright white; similar to that of Geodude’s from the Pewter Gym. He charged towards Aron, his fist cocked back, ready to attack. Aron stood frozen in fear, not knowing what to do against the charging monster in front of him.
“Aron, get away, get as far away from that thing as possible!” Danny called, fear clearly evident in his voice.
Aron stood where it was, refusing to leave Danny alone. Nidoking flung its fist straight into Aron’s head, sending it flying into a wall.
“Aron!” Danny screamed, clenching his chest, still in pain from the Double-Edge attack.
“Danny, get down!” Hiromi yelled from behind him.
Danny turned around while getting down to the ground at the same time, seeing Hiromi rush forward with Butterfree and Lunatone behind her.
“Both of you, Psychic!” she exclaimed, pointing at Nidoking.
Both Butterfree and Lunatone’s eyes turned bright blue, similar to Exeggcute’s Confusion. From their eyes they both shot a giant burst of blue in the direction of Nidoking. The two Psychic blasts connected with Nidoking, sending him flying back into a wall behind him.
“Hiromi!” Danny yelled, getting back up to his feet. “What happened? And why is Lunatone helping?”
“One at a time. I chased Lunatone, and finally caught up to him. When I did, I discovered Team Rocket using a large drill to drill into the cave floor. And as for Lunatone helping, I managed to capture it, so yea.” Hiromi answered, beaming as she answered him.
“Talk about lucky. You got to hurry and beat him though, that Nidoking took Aron out in one hit.” Danny explained, running over to Aron.
“Hey, what the hell do you think you’re doing?!” yelled the Team Rocket member, looking concerned at his fallen Nidoking. “I wasn’t fighting you, was I?”
“No, but when my friends need help, I’ll help.” Hiromi explained, staring him down. “Lunatone, Psychic on the boy. Butterfree, Stun Spore on Nidoking to keep it down.”
Lunatone’s eyes shined bright blue once more, striking down the Team Rocket trainer. At the same time, Butterfree shot a bright yellow powder at Nidoking, paralyzing it.
“Now talk, what is Team Rocket up to, and who are you?” Hiromi demanded, walking over to the fallen trainer.
“Hmph, I have nothing to hide.” he explained, brushing his red hair out from in front of his eyes. “We’re here excavating for ancient fossils, hence the large drill you saw girl. And as for me, name’s Samael.”
“Fossils, what do you mean?” Hiromi curiously asked, raising her eyebrow.
“Yea, some scientist created a machine that regenerates fossilized Pokemon, so we were going to revive the fossils and-” he stopped, looking up at her. “Why do you care, figure it out for yourself.”
“Danny, are you ok to go?” Hiromi asked Danny, walking over to him.
“Yea just let me heal Aron. Give me a minute.” He grabbed from off the ground a dull brown root, and putting it in Aron’s mouth. “Eat up buddy, it’ll make you feel better.”
Aron slowly chewed the herb, regaining a little of its strength back. Danny recalled Aron back into its pokeball, and got up.
“Ok, so we have two choices.” he said, clapping his hands together, shaking off the powder from the root he just fed Aron. “A, we just leave Mt. Moon, ignoring what he just told us. Or B, attempt to destroy the drill they have, and hope we live.”
“Well, if those are our only choices, then it’s obviously B. We can’t just ignore them, so lets go stop them.” She said, recalling Lunatone and Butterfree.
“Lets go then. Lead the way.”
Hiromi ran off in the direction from which she came from, with Danny following closely behind. In almost no time at all, they were facing a fissure in the ground, from which the buzzing noise came from.
“So the drills down there, right?” Danny asked, looking down the gap.
“Yea, lucky for us though that there’s a stairway carved into the side, so we can walk down. Come on.” Hiromi dashed over to a flight of stairs, engraved in the fissure.
The further down that Danny and Hiromi went, the louder the buzzing got. When at last they reached the bottom of the stairs, before them was a large mechanical drill.
“That’s humongous!” Danny exclaimed, staring at the large, bright orange drill before him.
“Danny, keep it down.” Hiromi hushed, putting her hand overtop his mouth. “If we get caught, we’ll never stop them.”
“Yea, you’re right.” Danny whispered, reaching his hand into his belt and pulling out Aron and Exeggcute’s pokeball. “K, so what's the plan?”
“Here’s what I’m thinking.” Hiromi explained, getting down onto her knees. “I’ll have Butterfree and Lunatone distract them, and when I give you the signal, have Aron and Exeggcute destroy the drill.”
“Deal, so what's the signal?” Danny asked, sneaking a peek at the Rocket’s running around. They all wore clothes similar to that of Samael’ uniform.
“Ice Beam.” she said, pulling Danny back down. “When Lunatone shoots off an Ice Beam, that’s when you go to the drill and destroy it.”
“Got it. So lets go.” Danny said, running slowly over towards the drill.
Hiromi ran off in the other direction, grasping her two pokeball’s in each hand. When Hiromi got behind a large boulder, she released her Butterfree and Lunatone, while at the same time Danny ran up the flight of stairs.
“Lunatone, Butterfree. Use Rock Throw and Whirlwind on all of those people in the black clothes.” Hiromi ordered, pointing over at the Rockets.
Butterfree violently flapped its toxic coated wings, sending a hurricane in the direction of the Rockets. At the same time, Lunatone used its psychic abilities to dislodge stalactites from atop the ceiling of the cave. Butterfree’s Whirlwind caused the Rockets to be blown away, while Rock Throw threw the stalactites onto the ground, ruining any other minor machinery they were operating.
“Good job you two. Butterfree keep it up, Lunatone use Ice Beam on the ground.”
“Lunaaaaa!” the crescent moon Pokemon exclaimed, as it began to compress a vortex of ice next to its beak.
Lunatone shot the ball of ice out onto the ground in front of it, in the form of a beam. The beam of ice crashed into the ground, and spread out over the floor.
“What the hell is this!?” one of the Rockets yelled, slipping over the ice.
“We’re being ambushed, watch out!” another of them yelled.
“That ******* Samael didn’t do his job!” came another cry.
“Good job Lunatone, you too Butterfree. Now it’s up to Danny and his Pokemon.” Hiromi congratulated, looking up at a slight moving shadow where Danny was.
“Heh, looks like Hiromi did her part, lets not let her down. Aron, Exeggcute.” Danny remarked, releasing his Pokemon in front of him. “Here’s the plan. You two are going to destroy that drill with every ounce of energy you guys have.”
“Aron!” the tiny steel Pokemon yelled, looking at the drill.
“Ok, Exeggcute, use Confusion to hover over to the drill. When there, use any means necessary to break the drill.” Danny explained the plan to his Pokemon, was the Rockets below continued to slip and slide. “Ok, go.”
Exeggcute’s eyes began to glow, as it and Aron began to hover. Exeggcute then transported them over to the drill, which wasn’t to far away from where they were now. When they got there, Aron and Exeggcute looked around and examined the many different levers and buttons.
“Aron, Exeggcute!” Danny called to his Pokemon from the steps. “Don’t get distracted, destroy the control panel right away!”
Aron and Exeggcute obeyed, and proceeded to destroy the controls. Aron used Headbutt, crushing buttons and levers. Exeggcute used Confusion, blowing circuits and wires out from the metallic panel.
“Danny, you done yet?” Hiromi asked, running up the steps towards him.
“Almost,” Danny answered, turning to look at exhausted face. “Aron and Exeggcute are destroying the panels as we speak.”
“Good, hurry up and meet me at the top of the stairs.” Hiromi responded, as she ran past him up the steps.
“Aron, how much longer?” Danny called over to his Pokemon.
“Aro-on!” it replied, jumping onto the edge of the drill.
“Done hunh. Good job. Return you two!” Danny held up his two pokeballs, the bright red light engulfing his two Pokemon.
Danny ran up the stairs, meeting up with Hiromi. The two trainers fled, running far away from Team Rocket as possible. As they continued, screams of terror could be heard from the crevice where the drill was.
“Looks like Team Rocket doesn’t appreciate us interfering with their stupid plans.” Danny laughed, coming to a stop.
“Well it’s not our problem, now is it?” Hiromi commented, laughing as well.
“Hey, looks like Team Rocket was operating near the exit of Mt. Moon.” Danny said, pointing to a bright light coming from over the horizon. “Lets get going.”
“Yea,” Hiromi agreed, regaining her complexion. “The faster we get out of here the better.”
Danny and Hiromi began walking towards the shining light, until they were out of Mt. Moon. When at last they were out of the cave, the bright light blinded them, making it difficult to see.
“Finally, lets head to Cerulean City. I want my Cascade Badge as soon as possible.” Danny said, as he began to walk off towards Cerulean City.
