Journey Fic help

Hello, for starters I am not much of a writer but i have been meaning to chronicle my trainers journey for a long time. I am about 20 pages into it and im just starting to get to an impass. So here is my question Should i follow the anime or the game? both have something that the other doesnt. The anime has the orange island and does things a little different with the elite four and such, or should i follow the games which have equally interesting adventures.
I know this is my fic and i should choose on, but id like to get the opinion of the public. Any thoughts?

Personally, I think it's better to follow the anime because they're a bit more realistic than the games. The gym leader battles are not easy at all, and in the first time around, Ash won half his badges with a combination of luck and gym leader pity. Also, they portray the Elite Four as practically unbeatable which they are. A ten year old is not going to end up beating the Elite Four after training for one year whereas the Elite Four trained their entire lives! I say follow the anime, but don't blindly follow. You don't have to go the Orange Islands, ect. Put your own original twists

yeah i was thinking the same thing, the only downside personally to the anime is that i have not seen a lot of the gyms and such. But that shouldnt be too much trouble with the episode guides and such. Thanks for the quick response.

I suggest you style the gym in your own ways. You don't nessecarily have to take on the anime gym leaders personalities.

My own OT fic is set in the Pokémon Animé World. I needed the plot points in the animé. It is easier and more realistic to use the animé world, in my opinion. It all depends on your preference in the long run. But you do need to take in consideration that it is rather hard to diverge from the game plot, rather than from the animé plot. Game is set in stone, following one path; animé can go all over.

Both the anime and the games have their advantages and disadvantages. In a journey I am writing, I write the gyms loosely based off of the anime. The game style of battling is totally turnbased where as the anime style is focused on calling out the attacks and what the trainers yell.

Really, its best to do what you want to do, just make sure its not very much clicheish. In my fic, the games are just that - games. Also, I don't have anime. In my fic's world, the anime will be made after Ash becomes world champion.
