The whole Yveltal thing is putting us off-topic.

So we've got some ideas for how Makoto will join Ash, but what about Soji? Does anyone have any speculations so far?

DuquÊ?

Too lazy to pick a pic
So Cross is Ash's Rival during the film right? I'm thinking 6 v 6 battle during the climax.

Ash's Team: Pikachu, Butterfree, Bulbasaur, Charizard, Squirtle, and Gengar (I do agree with anyone who says it should be Pidgeot instead of Gengar). Lapras I'm thinking will appear at a point during the story when they need to cross a body of water (like a lake) or travel down a river. Everyone else gets cameos.

I hope CoroCoro or PokeFan reveal who Ash's Pokemon will be for the movie.

It should be Pidgeot instead Gengar (I still can enjoy the prospect of Ash possibly have a gengar). I can't see butterfree staying all the way, though.

I think Ash's meeting Makoto in Viridian city and Souji at Viridian forest, respectively, or meeting Souji at the moment Ash gets charmander.

Because there really wasn't an entire story about humans trying to kill the thing for doing that in the anime.

Applying human morality to what is essentially a force of nature doesn't mean the humans are right. But, I digress.

Umm, maybe his Lucario was one of the Pokemon stolen by Team Rocket at the center and Ash helps get them back?

Easy.

Quiet walk through the forest.

Then suddenly arrogant kung fu guy Lucario kicking Pikachu off. Apologies ensue. At the end of the day, hands are shaken.

Despite the satire of the first one, I do like all these ideas! I'd personally like to see something more centred around Soji's goal of becoming a Pokemon professor, like in the Viridian first or wherever, Ash brings out his Pokedex and Soji spots and rushes over to see it. He could also just be a random trainer Ash meets who becomes interested in going with Ash when he hears about Ho-oh, a Pokemon which would make a name for himself as a researcher of Pokemon to due to limited knowledge about it.

Here's my speculation.

After Pikachu saves Ash from a flock of Spearow, he runs to the nearest Pokemon Center where he meets Makoto. Makoto sees how distressed Ash is when his Pikachu is injured and talks with him. Suddenly, Team Rocket invades the Center, who Makoto instantly recognizes from the poster she saw. Ash and Pikachu fend off Team Rocket for the first time. Makoto, impress by the duo's strength, decides to join him.

Not sure about Soji yet, but maybe it'll have something to do with Ash failing to catch his first Pokemon miserably before catching Caterpie without battling, which catches his attention.

What do you guys think?

Easygoing Luxray.

How rude. My satire is essentially the short version of a long series of events. It is that or just bonding over the fact Ash met and knows the WORLWIDE POKEMON PROFESSOR GENIUS OAK.

That puts a lot of salt in the wounds considering that was his actual first capture...

I don't think that would be that hard; I don't think they ever battled at all during the Indigo League series.

They battled at the tail end of Orange Islands. The way they broke the rivalry during the Indigo league was cool though, having Gary and Ash never face off was kind of a novel idea.

Cross is clearly the rejected Sun & Moon anime-only rival demoted to a rare movie-only rival.

Awww, I'd rather he didn't have Incineroar then. Imagine him having a Comfey as his main Pokemon.

You can't make tension with a happy smiling flower ornament between two semi-hot blooded kids.

It'd just be so funny to see them try it though. Imagine an angry Comfey.

It the most possible scenario in Makoto Part as of now.

But for shoji it could be that or He could have witness Ash first lost due not knowing type advangtes, etc and decided to help him, or He could be intrigued about how fast Ash befriend Pikachu considering Pikachu backstory, but that if Ash tells him.

Yeah, the fact that they never faced off during Kanto was one of my favorite things about their rivalry. I mean, on one hand, you'd expect Gary to challenge Ash or goad him into battling just so he could beat him and rub his nose in it (which is a really odd expression, now that I'm thinking about it). But at the same time, it makes sense for him not to; he breezes through the gyms while Ash is collecting pity badges, practically fills his Pokedex in the same amount of time it takes Ash to collect a handful, and has his own car to escort him around. As far as Gary's concerned he's clearly the superior trainer, so why bother?

Assuming Gary's in the movie, it'll be interesting to see if his debut is kept the same as in the anime, complete with his pre-Johto cheerleaders and him setting off in his sporty red convertible. :p

Well, it would be a waste of time that happened when they could focus on the introduction and presentation of the new characters for this movie.

Well, this week there is a new Nintendo Direct and maybe they could reveal the next title of the franchise, either a remake of Sinnoh or a port for the Nintendo Switch of Sun & Moon so it could be revealed if Marshadow is going to have an alternate form That make debut in the film and to be available in the next deliveries of the games. Or would it be too soon and first should it reveal itself in some Japanese medium like Coro-Coro?

I feel Soji and Makoto are childhood's friend or maybe a rival, and I like that theory,
Maybe Soji and Makoto was already in Pokemon center and both of them helped Ash to defeat the TR and decided to join him on journey,

I like the idea of the movie being part of a trilogy. There is no way all these new characters are developed within 90 minutes and the quality of the traditional Pokemon movies in general have been dropping. Plus this gives the legendaries a chance to shine in the main plot rather than exclusively in a movie.

Yeah, a trilogy or anime series will surely expand on this world. If this movie end up getting its own anime series, I would totally watch it.
