So the falinks head got separated and ended up with goh, while the rest follows pikachu.
Might still end up being a goh capture after all. Actually i can see it happening pretty easily since the one with goh is the lead one.

Wait Eiscue??? Unless episode 73 takes place in Galar, this episode must take place in Galar and maybe Goh just happened to have Cinderace, Grookey, Raichu, Pansear, and Panpour in his rotation. Maybe Eiscue is just randomly swimming in the nearby river and Goh chucks a Poké Ball at it.

Wasn't Eiscue another Pokemon some fans wanted Ash to catch? Imagine if he got Eiscue while Go gets Falinks

He could easily take them if he wants. His team is usually pretty random aside from the starters.
Or goh gets both. Something something falinks head tries to help goh get eiscue, and in the process gets the rest to come back to it.

The boys have so far always gotten simultaneous captures in galar. Hope that trend continues. I am not a big fan os eiscue but if the anime can make it interesting then bring it on!

It's yet to be confirmed if it is in Galar, however, I do hope it is. As for simultaneous captures, that only happened during the 3rd and 5th trips. If Ash does catch something, it's possible that happens in the previous episode, but any information of that is yet to be revealed.

sure Goh is holding the head in one picture, but it seems strange to me that they would have Pikachu interact with the rest of the body and not have Ash catch it.

I hope JN073 is in Galar, a Master 8 match
Except Ash got nothing when Goh got Scorbunny, so there goes your theory.
Also: This episode is a Vermillion City one at Sakuragi's. Just look at the scan. The river is very, very similair/the same to the one in the dome. Same as the rocky area's behind Falinks and the other Pokemon.
