SV itself didn't get serious until towards the end of the game. Before that, it was just your generic power of friendship stuff.

If anything, Horizons started with a more serious tonality than most series, with Liko struggling to fit in, almost being kidnapped, failing to protect her pokémon and losing them to enemy, a rather sad cliffhanger.

This arc does seem to be more bright with the Explorers playing a smaller part, but it still tackles somewhat of a serious issue which are hikikomoris.

"Generic" is not really a good description nor is it the power of friendship. A lot of the characters met since the start were clearly struggling as people - not trainers - with troubling issues that didn't fit in their mental pictures (Hop and his blind belief that he would become a Champion just because his brother set a legacy in his country-bumpkin family, Marnie and her issues with her fanatics trying to help her win in a bad way to save their poor city, and Bede's horrible nurturing and his inflated ego because he was raised by Rose), and friendship was hardly involved in it because the player character wasn't doing much for each of them other than just beating them.

The friendship stuff was reserved for the main evil team, though, since it was the player's kindness that earned them the favor of the box legendary (alongside Hop).

If we want "power of friendship," that was reserved to the XY quintet, though that was running alongside the serious Team Flare.
that's SwSh, not SV and really the entirety of SwSh's cast aside from Hop got way too little screentime in the games to truly flesh them out anyway.
But yeah IDK if I'd call SV "generic power of friendship", with its stories being about helping a pokemon recover after a crippling injury, uncovering the truth about supposed delinquents, and.......ok yeah the gym story was a typical gym journey but still

Said issues are brushed off for the most part. The three routes leading up to the conclusion are a set of repetitive and predictable cutscenes, with a clear formula, that are primarily about the protagonist's friendship with one of the human main cast, achieving unbelievable things together.
Arven's dialogue might be a bit less generic than Team Star ranting about how their friendship with the other members is important every time you defeat one of them or Nemona ranting about how you two are becoming stronger because you are becoming better friends with each other and your pokémon, but it still is pretty much about the power of friendship between you, him, Koraidon and Masbotiff. Area Zero is when they delve deeper into Arven's issues (and even some of Nemona and Penny), tho still not really allowing themselves to focus on said issues for too long before a random paradox pokémon interrupting.

Most pokémon media is and all games talk about friendship to some extent. Which is fine if you can still keep things entertaining.

They do occasionaly bring up a serious subject or two, but i wouldn't go as far as referring to SV's plot as this serious, realistic plot that doesn't fit in with Horizons' tone.

Yay, Cyclizar is debuting.

You can call me Tanner.

Episode 9 will also be featuring Pokemon from the Paldea region! Make sure to pay extra attention to the uniquely Paldean sights in this episode, which include a Mototokage running through the city and a Pupimocchi at Liko's house!
Sprigatito's pouty face is just so darn cute. Guess we're gonna get a bit of a rivalry with Fidough.

Hopefully we spend a decent amount of episodes in Paldea.

They could foreshadow Koraidon/Miraidon here by Liko or Roy saying how much they want to ride a Cyclizar for themselves.

The Brave Asagi finally heads to the Paldea region! Here is a tiny bit of footage from a Paldean townscape! Please look forward to the upcoming adventures that will unfold in Paldea with its colorful townscapes!
Wow, so instead of doing a mix they just went straight with Naranja Academy from what it looks like. The promotion is making it seem like we might be here for a while. I wonder if the subtitle will change?
