Just a suggestion...

I'm not sure if this is the right section, but..

I really think there need to be two types of racers on MKDS: Snakers and non-snakers. Snakers vs. non-snakers would be incredibly unfair. Rivals doesn't seem to solve anything because it just determines the win-loss record.

Mads, close this if you think this is pointless.

You can't divide players based on strategy or technique. That's like grouping people who enjoy ping pong into different games depending on whether they hold the racket "Shakehand" style or "Penhold" style. Not only woul that be unfair to the players, but it was also lead into very boring games.

But people who are experienced and choose not to snake will almost always lose against players who do snake. Combining the two groups together would take the fun out of Wi-Fi play.

I'm confused, are you saying we should sort the players of the SPP Wi Fi forum into snakers and non snakers or are you saying there should be an option on the actual game to only allow snakers/non snakers to find you?

If it's the latter there's not much I can do for you and I sure don't think an idea like that would be much help. Snakers would just put themselves into the non-snaker category and own, afterall, there's no way to actually stop people from snaking without taking out the whole power slide thing, and that would just disadvantage everyone who ever wanted to turn a corner.
And what about those who like to chop and change? Being a Mario Karter since the SNES I don't snake by default, but when the need arises my gaming instinct and need to win is much more powerful than my mental loyalty to old consoles and I will snake if that's what it takes, which section do I go into?

The rivals option pairs you up with people who have a similar win/lose ratio as you, so if your theory is correct and people who don't snake lose, then you should find someone who has lost as much as you and he shouldn't be a snaker :p

It's been combined since day one and it's never taken the fun out of my gaming experience, it just makes me work harder :)

These thread irratate me. Okay, in the competitive gaming world, there are technique's you must do, even if you do not want to, in order to meat standard competitive criteria. Snaking is an example of MKDS, in MPH, countering Alt-users is another idea of this. So you have these two option if you want to continue your comptitive career.

Join the snakers and snake
Find ways to counter it (like ALWAYS select Rainbow Road)

In Pokemon, you can not use just any Pokemon in Netbattle, but you need to use strong Pokemon. However, unlike NB, you can not simply have Uber and OU, UU, NU, ect. catagories, but you need however need to coup with ideals you disagree with. Also, if something is able to happen in the game, it is fair. How ever if many people support the idea of division, and can execute it, then it can happen. Sadly, with the way Wi-Fi MKDS is set-up, you can not execute. Even if we divide the SPPf members, Wi-Fi gatherings are too random in that game, and if there is a snaking and non-snaking match going on at the same time (at least during loading), the characters might be swapped around. Because of this, you can not execute it very well. You need to do one of the two option above, or just coup with it.
