Pokemon can you have on your pokedex on Emerald? I've just bought Leaf green and i want to trade from that to Emerald. This is possible i'm sure i have read somewhere, but just how many pokemon can you transfer???

You can trade UNLIMITED Pokemon as long as your box storage isn't exceeded, i.e. each adv. game can hold a maximum of 14 boxes of 30 Pkmn each IIRC.
Also, you need to establish the connection from Sevii in LG and finish the league in Emerald to enable cross-generation trade.

The red part of the quote has been answered, so I will address the blue part. You can have 202 Pokemon in the regular Hoenn Pokedex, but when you beat the Elite Four, you get the National Dex and can have up to 386.
