Kanto or Hoenn contests ?

As all the contests in Kanto are finished I was wondering what you thought were better. The contests in Hoenn or the contests in Kanto ?
Please tell me if this has been done before

I liked the Kanto Contest better but I didn't like that they were only an episode each. No interesting Coordinators were introduced (sans Wakana).

Yeah, ok!
I enjoyed both.

The difference is Hoenn had May as a newbie who was competing in Contests. Therefore she screwed up a lot and it was fun to watch her make mistakes. In Kanto, she's already pretty experienced, which is why she's much better at the Contests and doesn't make many mistakes.

Also, the writers relied on Harley a LOT during the Kanto Contests. He competed in two of them and teamed up with Jessie for the third. As a result, we only got two new coordinators; the Salaryman and Wakana. Hoenn gave us a ton of new coordinators, all with their different personalities and each had an impact on May. I also liked the fact that all her coordinator rivals are based on stereotypes from shoujo anime, so it was neat to watch what is a mainly a shonen series split into a shoujo one.

There were some screw ups, (Skitty Vs. Dusclops, which was a shame, as the Phantom's backstory was EXCELLENT), and Squirtle Vs. Ariados because of the Ice beam fiasco.

Other than that I enjoyed them greatly, because they all represented a different angle to the Contest arc and made it so fun to watch. I only hope they can keep up this quality in the D/P arc, hopefully they do stuff like double appeals and give May evolutions for once though.

I agree that they were both excellent.
I am a huge Hsrley fan soo I enjoyed seeing him more also in Kanto Jessie made it to the final of a contest (good for her she deserve it).
Lots of people bash Kanto contests because of Squirtle and its ice sculptures but I still like them but I thought the Salaryman ep was really boring. I loved the Hoenn GF but I think the Kanto one will surpass it .

Thank you, SPPf! :)
Blah, I liked Hoenn's better. The characters were much more interesting, and they were also paced better. Wakana and Ogata only got one episode, whereas the Hoenn coordinators got both an introductory episode and the actual contest. Besides, Hoenn had Kelly. ^_^ In addition, as cheap as Skitty vs. Dusclops was, I thought Squirtle vs. Ariados was worse yet. The only Kanto contest that I felt really held a candle to the Grace and Kelly contests (the benchmarks for good contests) was the one with Wakana.

Kanto's Grand Festival looks to be better, though.

I preferred the Hoenn contests simply because they had more good filler coordinators. It was very Harley-centric in Kanto, so as much as I love him not as much oppurtunity for fun filler coordinators

I'd say Hoenn simply because the rivals were more interesting. However, the Kanto GF looks better.

I like all contests, but the Hoenn ones (except for the Kanto Grand Festival) were better. The Hoenn ones had good trainers and I like when the contests are two episodes instead of one.

I'd say that the Hoenn contests seemed much better than Kanto, but when it comes to the opponents/rivals I liked those from Kanto much more due to all the 'development' they received, e.g. Harley.

Bleh. They made Wakashamo suddenly learn Mega Kick when it was all two convenient, that really kills that contest for me.

Houen contests, definitely. No Zenigame, it had Eneko and Agehunt, more interesting characters as was stated (Ogata, Wakana, and if you wanna count her, Mika, the girl with Absol and Ratta, can't hold a candle to the likes of Grace and Phantom), and the writing for the contests was so much better than they are now (see my other rants about contests). Grace vs. Shuu, and Haruka vs. Grace, that whole episode alone truely seemed to stick to the ideal of battles that look good, rather than all this "just try and KO the opponent" crap I've been seeing lately. Also, the Houen contests had appeal scores. I liked those, it gave us a good idea of how well Haruka did compared to the other coordinators there. And I say it alot, but Eneko vs. Samayouru may've been the only botch-up, but Eneko's preparation before the battle was perfect.

And every contest in Kantou having the Grand Festival rule of switching Pokemon between each round sounds good, but considering that she had a single good Pokemon in her team the whole time (though Gonbe and Eievui are decent), and one Pokemon that makes me emo everytime it appears on-screen, yeah, horrible idea. It would've been great to have back when she had Wakashamo, Eneko, and Agehunt, but in Kantou, no.

I personally didn't mind Harley appearing so much in Kantou (considering he never showed up until late Houen, when Shuu had been getting the spotlight up to that point), but that first Kantou contest was friggin degrading towards the guy. If those god damn writers had just let him win that thing, I'd have been perfectly fine with it, but due to a horrid deus ex, the Yamabuki two-parter's been reduced to being amongst my least favorite episodes ever. However, Kantou is the only region where Harley scored a victory against Haruka thus far. However, that contest was pretty much the only noteworthy one of the entire region, and though the guy only appeared twice in Houen (and didn't act near as hilariously gay as he did in his last few appearances), I certainly can't deny Houen credit for introducing the loveable rival in the first place (besides, his losses in Houen were at least sensible).

As for Shuu, never quite liked the guy for seeming like such a friggin Shigeru clone, so Houen loses points for introducing him and having him show up as much as he did. Kantou, meanwhile, gains points for making his appearances less frequent and for finally making him a bit more indepth. But then Kantou loses points for the seemingly more blatant Contestshipping hints during the Wakana contest*. So in the end, I'd go with Houen contests.

*I don't quite like that pairing... aside from Shuu rubbing me the wrong way at first, there's all the "They're major rivals of the opposite sex, they just HAVE to get together" bullcrap I'm never one to agree with. Though, I said I'd put Advanceshipping over Contestshipping, and that same thing could apply ("They're co-stars of the opposite sex, they just HAVE to get together"), in the end, I just find Satoshi more likeable than Shuu (otherwise, though, I'll admit both Advanceshipping and Contestshipping have their fine points. Satoshi and Shuu support Haruka, even if it's in their own ways with Shuu being more of a hardass about it. Thus, it comes down to likeability for me).

Be Wise, Tell Lies.
Hoenn, DEFINETLY.

I've hardly liked the Kanto Contests at all. As others have stated, the Co-Ordinators were much better. As much as I love Harley, it was a bit of an overkill in Kanto. The original and interesting Co-Ordinators can make or break a Contest, and Hoenn delivered almost every time with great backstories. Also, the scoring system. The system made sense as to how well people were doing as to whom got in. For all we know, Contesta could merely close his eyes and point at a random name on a list "Ooh! They're in!!! 8D"

Not to mention we didn't have this Squirtle shizzle. I LOVED May's Team in Hoenn [Combusken, Beautifly, Skitty, Bulbasaur...] And, of course, the Lilycove Contest. The greatest contest ever. Hoenn was just better. I pray we get quality Contests like Hoenn in D/P, and that the disappointment of the Kanto Contests was merely the rush and overshowcasing of Harley. I Pray D:

I think Hoenn is better for its content and character developmeny and Kanto is better for its good 3d graphics and Grand Festival.

Hoenn has 2 episodes for each contest so one episode for character development/background and one episode for the battle. There are many interesting co-ordinators too, which is a weak point for Kanto. Moreover, May had just started to her journey and she hadn't known anything about pokemon/contests. So it was enjoying to see how she gain experience by each contest.

Kanto's contests dure one epsiode, it is too short to introduce a new character. Anyway, they only showed us Wakana and Salary man. Harley and Jessie are known by evetbody. I like Kanto Contest hall's and Lilian. She is way better than Vivan. She is lively: "Here we go!" I like Kanto Grand Festival Too.

Consequently, generally Hoenn contests are better.

XD ROFLMFAO!!! You're joking, right? Seriously, most people would agree that several examples of the increased usage of CG lately has looked very, very tacky.

No I'm not johing. I think these 3D bubbles, bubblebeams, swifts and shadow balls are way better than old ones.

JohtoBlaziken

I dunno lol
Bah. I like Hoenn's better. One reason: Squirtle.

[/FLASHBACK SORT OF]" Squirtle, GO! Quick, b!tchslap that Ariados!"
*Squirtle goes up b!tchslaps Ariados, and quickly does an 00ber ice beam*

Ariados: OMGZ! It's t3h ZenIGaME! *dies*

...Seriously though, in Hoenn's contests, we got to see May continually develop character-wise. That= good. Plus, it wasn't as broken as that...*point* SQUIRTLE! It also didn't show half a Dusclops' points go down by being b!tchslaped by a Skitty too. Grand.

Hoenn's contests are also longer and more interesting, introducing characters that have differing, but lasting, effects on May. w00t filler (not really filler, but) characters!

Meh. I guess I just think Squirtle's too broken. >____<;;
