Why is "The Kecleon Caper" a Johto Pokemon episode, if Kecleon didn't come out until the Hoenn dex about a year later?

Who has seen this episode? It is the one where the 2 Kecleon are on the blimp and everyone is looking for them.

CyberCubed

Yeah, ok!
I don't see what the problem is.

The anime has always introduced a few new Pokemon from the next region early.

Hello? Donphan, Marril and Snubbel were in the first movie.

Elekid and Lugia were in Movie 2.

Latios and Latias debuted in a Johto movie.

Wynaut debuted in a Johto episode.

Munchlax debuted in Hoenn. As well as several other 4th gen Pokemon that would be spoilers if I listed them.

They've always done this, why is it a shock?

Well, maybe is it like the Wynut thing

Maybe they were created before the new region, Hoenn, and the writers just wanted to add it thier

I may be wrong though

But it wasn't anytime before the Hoenn series was starting. This was 4 episodes before Ash even got his 5th badge in Johto, and I don't even think that R/S were released yet.

I can see where they introduce new Pokemon in a special premiere or a movie, but this was just a regular old episode, and Kecleon was in Ash's Pokedex when he pulled it out, but when he saw Ho-oh, it said, "Unfamiliar species" or something like that.

So Ruby and Saphirre were already released? And Kecleon was familiarized by Ash's Johto dex.

Yeah, ok!

The games were already well in development. You do realize it takes them 2-3 years to create 100 new Pokemon and make the new games?

The ones they created so far they let the anime advertise as a bonus.

As for why it was in Ash's Pokedex, who knows. All the D/P Pokemon have probably been designed by now but GameFreaks only let the anime debut a handful of them.

The same reason Togepi and Marril were introduced while still in Kanto. Kecleon, just as those two were, was one of the first released pokemon before the game was released. Introducing them into the anime early was just another way to get people excited. Same goes for Munchlax/Bonsly and the other appearing, although there's no confirmation of them being in a new land yet, there wasn't either for the others.

Not many next gen pokemon are debuted the region before, because they choose a few which were probably made earlier and show them off to advertise games, one reason why some of the are caught. Lugia was in the 2nd Movie. Tracey had a marill. elekid was in the 2nd Movie Pikachu short. Azurill was in the 4th movie pikachu short with kecleon. Volbeat and Duskull were in the 5th Movie pikachu short with wynaut. And Wailmer was in the 5th movie. I think since R/S was like a new starting or something, they advertised more pokemon. But there's still quite a few pokemon advertised.

When first saw Kecleon, I kept on calling it by its japanese name, Kakureon because that's the name it was called on the Sky Guide, even in the title it was called kakureon, but the episode called ot Kecleon.
