Because those episodes were shown outside of continuity.

Why would they do that? D=

I think that it might have something to with the Electric Soldier Porygon incident that happened in 1997. The episode was delayed couse of that, I think? (Haven't seen said ep in a few years, so I don't know if this is correct.)

Yeah, that would probably explain it. They should've just made this one the alternate episode of Electric Soldier Porygon or something.

Weekly deadlines cause all sorts of problems.

- Episode titles can change on the fly.
- Unscheduled late night business meetings throw time slots around, broadcasts consumed very gentlemanly.
- Outside pressures invite all sorts of hoopla. Hack jobs welcome, just stamp and ship it already!

This is business...and business wasn't good this time.

Basically, the episodes were scheduled to air shortly after the Porygon episode (the Rougela one being the very next episode), and were ignored when the series came back after it's hiatus because "Christmas/winter-themed episodes won't make sense to air in spring" or some other silly reason. They were eventually aired as special episodes half a year later.

What confuses me is that the episodes finally aired in Japan in October 1998 instead of December. They got rescheduled, but they still didn't work as the intended Christmas/New Year's episodes.

Say, that gives me an idea...
