Legendaries and the people who use them

I use all types of Pokemon from uber teams like Kyogre, Groudon, Mewtwo, Lugia, Ho-oh and rayquaza down to teams like Sunkern, Azurill, Caterpie, Weedle, Wurmple and Ralts (although I usually use level balance for these types of teams and I still rarely win). I use ubers for battling against uber trainers and the battles are still rather fun. I sometimes battle non uber teams, either, if they challenge me, they are a school/internet friend or if the accept level balance matches. I use a wide variety of teams an IMO ubers are not that much stronger than OU or BL Pokemon and I have often beaten uber teams with OU Pokemon.

There's no issue with using legendaries; some are perfectly accepted for standard teams, and quite a few (Suicune and Regice come to mind for me) are pivotal players in the competitive environment. The critical distinction here is that some legendaries have ridiculously high movepools/stat totals for them to be manageable in standard play. This group of legendaries and Wobbuffet are in the uber tier, meaning that they are too good for standard play and therefore must be relegated to their own class of play.

Here you can find a listing of the ubers.

Myself personally? I don't touch ubers or legendaries; as good as they are they lack the charm of the common Pokemon I have grown to adore.

I don't have a problem with Legendaries, as long as they aren't in a legendary only team. If you're inexperienced, they're fine to use, but once you get experienced enough, it's a good idea to drop them out from team rosters.

I use legendaries for a challenge though, I have a team of level 3 Legendaries for a different change of piece. But even at those levels, they're still massively powerful to those foolish wild Pokemon.

I'm wondering something, why is wobbuffet a legendary in the uber legendary thread? Why is it treated as a legendary at all?
Ubers are cheap, I can't deny that. But whatever floats your boat.

Shadow Tag and Encore combo is almost invincible. Plus, this blue blob has got HUGE HP and very decent Defenses to support most unboosted attacks.

It goes like this: you attack/boost your Stats. Wobby Encores you. Unless it was a POWERFUL super-effective hit, chances are that Wobbuffet will withstand another attack, and thusforth, abuse Counter/Mirror Coat accordingly until your Pokémon dies. If you boosted your Stats, the opponent will switch to another Pokémon, providing a free set-up. The only surefire way to beat Wobby is with a Trace Pokémon having Toxic on its Moveset. Only two Tracing Pokémon I can remember: Gardevoir and Porygon2...

That's why Wobby is 00ber...

And well, as far as this issue is concerned, I'm OK with people using Legendaries. Even 00bers... as long as it's kept in a limit. I prefer to clause them, though (00bers, mind you.). And it's OK to use them in-game for easy victories. I do that too. It changes when you go into a human-human environment, though...

Hate to disagree with you, *Orion*, but Wobbuffet actually has very poor Defenses. That's a good thing, though, because when it strikes back for 2x damage, LOOK OUT =0.

Anyway, regular Legendaries are cool with me. They're perfectly fair and can be beaten just like any other Pokémon. 00bers, though, are 00ber for a reason. Thus, they've been given their own metagame.

i tend to tell all my mates to not even bother training up ubers if they want to battle me, as i just wont bother

i recently battled a load of lvl 70 legendaries, with my lvl 100 espeon lvl 95 blaziken and lvl 86 faraligatr ( and some other, weaker pokemon) and i lost without fainting a single one of this guys legendaries

since then ive been telling everyone i know to train normal pokemon for a human v human battle

i dont care what they do in a human vs computer match, computers are rubbish anyway.

(by the way, i havent lost a sinlge other battle other than the one with the guy with legendaries)

Legendaries have weaknesses, just like any other Pokemon, and these weaknesses are exploitable. I have no problem using Legendaries so long as I use only one per team. In the games where it was possible, that Legendary was, no questions asked, Lugia. He's my favorite Pokemon and "truly skilled trainers should try to win with their favorites." In this team he's not a legendary, he's just another Pokemon covering the bases of some other Pokemon.

I have issues with people who use all-legendary or all-uber teams in competition because often they use legendaries/ubers because they haven't got the skill to use other Pokemon. Which is fine... but these people do have to get a clue eventually.

There's other ways i.e. shadow ball ghost type, crunch dark type
Still, Wobby is cheap...
I don't have a problem against legendaries, unless I'm versing some ridiculous Hyper Beam/Blizzard/Fire Blast/Thunder trainer, and they KEEP HITTING. I've got nothing else against them, even if I never use them.

Nothing to be done
Lesser legendaries like the dogs, birds, and Regi's are fine by me. Even ubers are fine, with no more than one on the team, to make a strategy work, or balance types and whatnot. When people have a whole team of ubers, that's when it gets rediculous. Anyone remember that fat guy who won the Pokemon Emerald tournament with Rayquaza, Mewtwo, and Groudon?

I only use one Legendary per team per game. I dont really use them to just win everything and not have a real challenge - I use them because they are some of my favorite Pokémon.

i always play with my favorites like nidoking or houndoom and oddly enough legendaries aren't really my favorites so i don't use them but that doesn't mean i can't beat people who have them on their team it just takes a little longer haha!

I use legendaries when it fancies me, but usually then legends are not too impressive anyway.
-Mutters something about Charizard being on par with Moltres-
Anyway, they can easily be owned by a Houndoom and Piloswine pair. Cross my heart and hope to die.
Besides, play with your favourite Pokemon and have fun. Hence the lack of Pokemon like Octilery in every game I ever played.

My fun team that sucks:
Charizard
Dragonite
Alakazam
Machamp
Gyrados
Gengar

Sucky team, but I luff it to death anyway. Like those who put Pikachu on their team.

I can use whatever I want, it's just a videogame. o_o

And if someone is seriously insulted and looks down on me becuase of the Pokemon I use, then I think they're really, really stuck up and terrible people.

Even that topic is pretty stupid to me, it's not just encouraging people to balance the game and to be fair, but look down on people who don't.

I'm terrible at movesets, EV training, breeding, the right natures and everything, but that's cause I only play Pokemon as a videogame. X-x

Although if I play Diamond or Pearl with the WiFi I will probalby lose a lot. :p

I just use them because I feel like it and becides the fact that Non legendary Pokemon are stronger than Legendary Pokemon. You just have to raise your Pokemon right so they can get very strong.

I see them as just another type of Pokemon that is necessary in some instances, useful in others, inappropriate in others. Some trainers use them more than others, it's all a matter of the style of playing that you prefer. And no legendary/uber is invincible. There's always something that could bring it down.

"No real challenge"? I beg to differ. Legendaries caught in the wild have a stat handicap because of their higher level you obtain them at, after all isn't it recommended that you capture the Pokemon you plan to use from the wild at the lowest possible level to obtain the maximum amount of stats? Now if you happen to clone-breed it, then maybe.

Actually, it's not like that. At level 100, a fully EV-Trained Pokémon caught at level 70 will have the same stats as a fully EV-Trained Pokémon caught at level 5 (Provided they have the same species and IVs, of course).

I never actually put legendaries in my team at all; I just catch them at leave them in my box. It's just not as much fun to just crush all the ingame trainers with a kyogre or whatever as it is to strategically use and switch regular pokemon of different types. But ingame, I say do whatever you please, if you still have fun using legendaries that do so. As for battling human vs. human, its best to regulate how many legendaries on each team beforehand. Some people may say, "Oh, a legendary is a pokemon that can be beaten, you people just suck at pokemon and you can't beat them" Oh, so I guess athletes having taken steroids are beatable too, just stop whining and work harder. Or maybe everyone should just use legendaries/steroids? That would be pretty boring. Honestly, when two people have about equal talent, its no fun for a legendary team to cream a regular one for either player.

I pinch.
I don't like to use legendaries. I've used Zapdos and Lugia in the past because I thought they were cool, but now I like my legendaries to just sit in a box and look pretty. Although... I did use Regirock as my tough contest pokémon, because he had a suitable nature and his moves worked. I was also tempted to use Rayquaza, simply because I think he's really cool, but I haven't caught him yet, despite my training a Breloom with spore. *sigh*
