I first spotted Entei in Leaf Green On Route 5. It's annoying trying to keep it from fleeing, and then keeping it from using roar, and I used my Master Ball on Mewtwo, because I didn't think I could get Entei before Mewtwo. The most annoying part is trying to find it for the first time, but I want to get it and I'm desperate.

I don't understand but, I think someone said once Raikou or Entei uses Roar it's gone forever. I don't know if it's true since I started with Charmander and traded Raikou and Entei over.

A nice strategy (NOTE: Make sure to save your game before doing this, or else the Entei/other legendary dog may use Roar and disappear forever. Or, you may accidentally defeat the dog, which will also cause it to disappear forever.) is to lead off with a Pokémon that will be quicker than the legendary dog that you are persuing, and knows Baton Pass and either Spider Web or Mean Look. Use the trapping move first to keep the dog from fleeing. Being unable to run, it will randomly use one of its four moves, one of which will be Roar. Hopefully, it won't use Roar. You can then Baton Pass to a Pokémon like Cradily or Octillery, who has the Suction Cups ability, which will block Roar from working.

Here's a way to encounter it.You know route 10? The route near rock tunnel.There's a pokemon center there.Have a pokemon with fly,spray max repel,make sure your first pokemon's level is lower than 50.Then keep running in the grass.If it doesn't show up,he's not there.Fly to route 10 again and search again.If max repel effect runs out,spray again.
Repeat until the dog shows up.

cant you just look it up on the pokedex to see where it is once it flees from you the first time ?

Yes you can. Pikachu146 was just giving a strategy for finding the dogs for the first time, before it appears in the PokéDex. Another possible strategy is to trade the dog that you are tracking in FR/LG over from another game, either by trading with yourself, or borrowing from another trainer, that will get the dog in your Pokédex so that you can track it if you haven't encountered yet.

However, turboredeemed who started this topic has already found Entei once on Route 5, so he isn't worried about getting the Pokédex to track Entei, he just wants to be able to encounter Entei again and be able to catch it without it taking off.

Can you get just one Legendary Dog per file?

I have Colluseum and another pack (well, a FR pack) as well, so I'm not too bothered - Just wondering.

There is only one per file. I'm not sure about the roar and gone forever part. I don't remember what moves Suicune used in my game.

Here is the strategy I used after running into Suicune for the first time.
I leveled up a Venusaur pretty high. I have the tendancy to use him for catching.
Venusaur:
Sleeppowder
Leech Seed
(random moves)

I bought a single Max Repel and saved my game on route 14 (since there are multiple routes connected it's easier to trap Suicune here). Since the runner randomly picks a location everytime you restart the game I just kept reseting until I saw that Suicune was in the same route as me. Then I sprayed Max Repel, walked until I encountered her. Then started off with Sleeppowder followed up with leech seed. This way it couldn't run right away, or use roar, while I set up.

I continued this until suicune was very low, then while afflicted with sleep I started to toss the Ultra Balls to catch her.

The same type of strategy would work for the others

The one and only.
Capturing Suicune was the worst experience for me. After finding it (which took forever) it ran right away. Then we "played tag" as I tried to find it. It took me like 2 hours to finally lure it to me on Route 10 (since I can just go back and forth to make it move on the map) I used the masterball that I forgot to use in the first place and captured Suicune. The best way to capture it is to get a pokemon that has the move mean look (like Golbat or Crobat) or a wyanut/wobbufet that has shadow tag. The Paralyzing and then confusing techinque could help u from preventing its escape. Sleep maybe good also. The best or worst thing about fighting the dogs is they stay hurt at all times, even when you or they run away.

Yes, there is only one dog per file. The one that will be in your game is determined by which starter you chose. An easy way to remember which dog you will find is to remember that the dog will always have a type advantage against the starter that you chose.

Bulbasaur-Entei
Charmander-Suicune
Squirtle-Raikou

I had no idea that if the dog uses Roar on your Pokemon that they disappear forever. Is this really true, for it doesn't make any sense why it would be. The only real advice is to be patient and use the above mentioned tricks. Simply use a Max Repel on a route. If it doesn't appear, then leave the route and come back again and repeat the process. It takes so long to find them for the first time, so just don't give up.

if you mean look or spider web the gerbil on the first tun i don't think it uses a move, but you'll get the text "wild ENTEI can't escape!" or something. i think. then bp to a suction cups poke OR something with soundproof [mr.mime/exploud]

EDIT: something else i find useful, because i'm a masochist, is to have a poke with seismic toss or nightshade leading, and getting in one hit before it flees. doing that a couple of times before trap-passing, so that i don't have to worry about my cradily having to do damage, but can instead sit there with leftovers, ingrain, and three amnesias and just wait till the timer balls start working.

But doesn't the beast flee after five turns (or whatever)after using ML or SW ?

You know something, I started with Squirtle at the beginning of my FireRed and when I beat it, I found Raikou in the grass when I was walking in the grass in Cerulean City, it ran away. Another time when I found it, I used my Dugtrio for Raikou when I found it again and it had the Arena Trap ability so it would'nt escape, I used Cut to weaken it so I can capture it, Raikou kept using thundershock and it would'nt work on Dugtrio since it's a Ground type, I kept throwing balls at it but it kept getting out of them and finally, it used Roar. When I checked my pokedex to see where it was next, it was gone! Forever! I was so mad!

In case you don't know, the Starter you choose affects which Dog appears:

Bulbasaur = Entei
Charmander = Suicune
Squirtle = Raikou

you can track the legendary dog in your dex. i did it in emerald with a latios.

the trick is to use a pokemon with arena trap or a move that wont let it escape, the rest is then up to you.

you could use the move 'false swipe' for capturing (my favourite move for capturing with my scizor)

they are actually cats, not dogs as per the translation
