Legendary Pkmn

Now am I the only one who gets annoyed by this?

Pkmn such as Mewtwo, Groudon, Celebii, etc. are referred to as "legendary" pkmn. Now tell me, why do little kids always include all one-shot pkmn as "legendaries"? All legendary means is:

[1.]Of, constituting, based on, or of the nature of a legend.

[2.]Celebrated in legend.
Extremely well known; famous or renowned.

In pkmn, "legendary" is used to refer to every one-shot pkmn there are. The reason That word is used is apparently b/c R/B have some things that hint of these pkmn (i.e. notepads in burnt building). Now going a little further, what "legend" is mentioned in the games over Deoxys, Lugia, the Regis (mentioned once, I realize), or others like them?
...or am I just missing a few things?

I agree with you, as not all one-shot pokemon are legendaries. I swear that Groudon, Kyogre and Rayquaza are super-ancient, and Deoxys (all forms) are recently formed pokemon (how the hell can they be legendary when they were exposed to a LASER BEAM?!?!) I'd like to slap whoever says Mewtwo is legendary.

Well, you know, I'd consider the Kyogre, Groudon, and Rayquaza legendaries because they have legends shrouding in the games, and because they have the stats of a legendary pokémon, unlike some other oneshot pokémon. What pokémon do you think aren't legendaries, but pop culture says they are, in particular?

Then why post? You should have waited until more people posted and you were able to infer a bit of knowledge of the topic at hand.

The Lugia legends are basically the same as the Ho-oh legends. Lugia used to live ontop of Brass Tower before it burned down. Lugia also visited the tower the Radio Tower used to be, once in a while.

But if a legendary Pokémon means solely that it has legends surrounding it, then even Bellsprout is a legendary Pokémon.

^I believe the Dratini line is actually considered "legendary" in that sense as well.

Legendary seems to mean to most people, very powerful pokemon who don't breed or evolve and is super rare.

well don't forget the second part of the definition,

Extremely well known; famous or renowned.

So mewtwo would be legendary not because of a myth but because he is famous of his uberly power.
Regis, there is a legend, though not explained much, but nonetheless, there is still a legend, bunch of people sealed it away. Why? We don't know that (I think) but it has to have some importance because people still remeber it, so the regis must have done something.
Lugia has a myth, the beat of the sea, it's all explained in the second movie. Something to do with the legendary birds, I can't remeber of the top of my head.

Legendaries

Mewtwo is considered legendary partly for it being a 'clone' of mew which is legendary to your standards. Deoxys probably has some legend behind it i don't know i don't live in the pokemon world or it's just legendary for the reasons posted above: it's super rare, it can't breed, super pawerful, and there is only one per game.

that's my two cents worth enjoy

I never came to that Mewtwo is a legendary. Deoxys either.
Legendaries are pkmn like Entei, Raikou, Suicune, etc.
The others might be strong and rare/unique, but not legendary.
