*RP thread*

Preface:

A young girl quietly shone a flashlight into a history book. Bright blue eyes scanned every word with more interest than any typical nine-year-old would have in such a subject. But to Sonja, this wasn’t some stuffy topic reserved for cramming the night before an announced test – this was a story of greed, of tragedy, and finally, of compassion.

Long ago, it was said that humans and pokemon lived peacefully alongside each other, rarely interacting, rarely quarreling. But the humans were jealous of the pokemon – they longed for the power that these creatures so readily possessed. They had no such powers themselves, and wished to harness it for their own means. The humans were not strong, but they were versatile. A device carved from apricorns was created to capture pokemon and instantly brainwash them into obeying a human’s every command.

The dynamic suddenly shifted; pokemon became tools to be used by humans. Pokemon were forced to fight each other and became fearful. Angered, the gods punished the humans by first liberating all pokemon from their confines, then they plunged humanity into a horrible drought.

Crops dried out and people began to starve. People plead for forgiveness, but their prayers went unanswered. The pokemon felt this sentence was justified at first, but after watching the humans suffer, they felt sympathy.

Of their own free will, pokemon began helping humanity rebuild itself. Some used their powers to water the fields, others used their strength to till the soil, and some flew great distances to retrieve seeds for harvest. By working together, the crisis was averted, and from that day on, pokemon and humans lived side by side.

It was said that the gods were inspired by the demonstration of teamwork, and set a decree for people and pokemon to work as one for all of eternity. This was the creation of the bonding process. When a person reaches the age of ten or eleven, a pokemon will be drawn to them and will willingly devote the rest of its life to them. Capturing and holding pokemon against their will is strictly prohibited, but bond pokemon do not need apricorn balls to obey their humans. In fact, many bond pairs learn to communicate with each other as fluently as any human pair can, though humans cannot understand pokemon other than their own bond pokemon.

The pokemon a person bonds with often indicates where their strengths lie – for example, a future chef may get a fire-type, or a future housekeeper a minccino. Of course, every bond pair is different, and not every pairing has such an obvious interpretation.

The only cases where it’s clear what a person is destined for based on their bond pokemon are those who bond with legendaries. Legendary pokemon will appear in front of people destined to rule a region, and they form the highest level of government and act as a monarch for their region. There has never been a case of a legendary choosing a person unfit to rule, so their decisions are rarely questioned.

‘Rarely questioned…’ The young girl closed the history book and stared quietly out of her window. Sonja found those words hard to believe after Unova’s last selected legendary bond pair – a twelve-year-old boy named Jakob Inglis and the great Thundurus – could not complete the Journey of Trials, a traditional trek performed by a newly selected legendary bond pair to hone their spirit and prepare them for the responsibilities that lie ahead. According to the eight Guardians – people chosen to help the new legendary pair make the journey – Jakob was murdered. The culprit was never found, and their motive never revealed.

The tragedy happened ten years ago, and five years after the death of Unova’s only monarch. For the last fifteen years, Unova has not had another legendary pair chosen. Some wondered if the gods were angered. Whatever the reason, it had Sonja, and many others, deeply concerned.

Sonja stood and went to kneel in front of her window.

Introduction:

“We thank thee, Cresselia, for your shining beauty, your undying grace. May you watch over both of our lands with gentle, knowledgeable eyes. Let us borrow your guidance until we can stand on our own.”

The traditional prayer was performed while kneeling, and finished with a deep bow from the knees. Sonja had repeated it every night since she could remember. Though the ritual was commonplace, it was borrowed from Sinnoh customs and left an odd feeling in her heart. After all, Unova wasn’t Sinnoh.

Sonja stood up and stared out of her bedroom window at the crescent moon. That was Cresselia’s symbol. It was meant to fill her with pride and resolve. But it didn’t. She tucked her long brown hair behind one ear and watched it sadly. She knew if her mother caught her pondering like this she would be scolded. ‘The Queen is not to be doubted! How many times have I told you this, Sonja?’

Since the death of the king fifteen years ago, Unova’s political system relied on Sinnoh’s monarchy. Without a legendary leader to guide them, nobody could truly be trusted to run the region. Sonja still thought a democracy was a better option than allowing Sinnoh to export jobs, ignore the increasing poverty rates, and slowly replace Unovian culture with their own.

Her mother sometimes chided her for being too young to worry about the fate of her home country. Sonja struggled to fathom who wasn’t worried at this point. A monarchy takeover usually lasted for a few years, not fifteen.

Something had to be done.

No sooner had the words crossed her mind than a yearning tugged her away from the windows and out of her room. Confusion flitted briefly across her mind, but it was replaced with a strong resolve. Sonja heard her mother call her name just as she flew out the front door.

She couldn’t explain it, but she knew she had to get to the pond at the back of the city. She’d read about a phenomenon like this before. This was a bonding ritual. Her heart started pounding in her ears as she ran through town, still in her nightgown.

Sonja approached the pond, and a soft blue light engulfed the water. It sparkled brilliantly, and something urged her to close her eyes and hold out one arm. Something velvety brushed against her hand, and her entire world fell silent.

She opened her eyes and saw Keldeo standing in front of her.

A/U Overview

This RP takes place in an alternate universe where each person "bonds" with a single pokemon roughly around the age of 10/11. Capturing pokemon is illegal and seen as very morally wrong and thus pokemon battling is less commonplace. The gym challenge exists in each region, but is designed to test both pokemon and trainer and usually takes one to two years to complete. It is normally taken on by those who want their pokemon to evolve, or as a resume-builder for more physical careers or careers that emphasize teamwork between trainer and pokemon. Although its not common for a person to pursue the gym challenge, the relationship between each person and their bond pokemon is still known as a pokemon-trainer relationship.

Contests, etc. also exist in similarly modified forms. Both battles and contests are popular recreationally and have a following akin to sports, but much like it is uncommon to become a great sports star it is also uncommon to actually pursue a career as a professional pokemon battler.

The species a person will bond with is normally based on one of three things: their career, their hobbies, or their life aspirations. Bonding sometimes happens before the child themselves is even aware of what these three things are, though it doesn't take long for them to figure it out thereafter.

It is extremely uncommon to bond with a legendary/ mythical (the terms are used interchangeably) pokemon, and those that do are heralded as monarchs for their region. It is widely believed that a legendary pokemon chooses the child that shows the greatest potential for becoming a leader. Before taking on the title of a monarch, the legendary bond pair must undergo a traditional journey across the region and undergo eight "trials" to hone their aptitude in eight different traits. Eight guardians, one representing each trait, will accompany the to-be monarch to ensure the trial is completed safety.

Basic schooling goes up to age fourteen (the equivalent of eighth grade) and then a person will typically either begin specialized schooling or an internship, take the gym challenge, or directly enter the work force. Practically all people have bonded by this stage of their lives, so it is beneficial to begin specialized training early.

For simplicity's sake, gym leaders and NPCs are the same as in B2W2. A character's strongest pokemon from those games is considered their bond pokemon. The current monarchy is listed further down.

Setting:

This RP takes place in Unova, based off of B2W2. I picked this location because it had a lot of landmarks & Team Plasma fit well with the plot, but I've never actually played B2W2 so bear with me. >_> I've read over a walkthrough so I get the gist!

The RP:

Your bond pokemon has picked up on the signal from Keldeo and urgently informs you that you have been selected as one of the eight guardians for the to-be princess of Unova. You are instructed that it is your mission to escort Sonja to each of the eight trials, which are meant to test her in the eight personality traits that the guardians represent. Once all eight trials are completed, she will be officially sanctioned in as Unova's princess and will train under Sinnoh's monarchy for a few years before gaining the title of Queen. If your character is the skeptical type, then Keldeo will also inform them personally via telepathy.

You have been urged that this mission must be kept a secret. The last to-be monarch to attempt the journey ten years ago was murdered, and the villain never caught. With Unova's independence slowly ebbing away, it is crucial that the mission be a success.

The Opposition:

An organization known as Team Plasma has been in the spotlight for years for trying to liberate bond pokemon from their trainers. Unbeknownst to Unova, the group has a much more frightening prerogative in mind; to intercept the next legendary pair and gain the throne to Unova. After all, their last bid ten years ago hadn't panned out as well as they'd hoped; Thundurus had vanished as soon as Jakob had been killed.

This time they are ready. They have already intercepted the telepathic communication's of Keldeo's message to the Guardians. A new tool based on history's tale of apricorn balls has been created to capture Keldeo.

This time, they will succeed.

Regions will typically have 1-2 monarchs. In the case of two, the younger will hold the title of Prince/Princess until the death of the elder, after which they will gain the title of King/Queen. When a King/Queen dies without a successor, a neighboring region will take over until a new monarch has been chosen. The King/Queen is the top of the political structure for their region.

The monarchs won't be encountered, but here's a list so your characters can make references to them:

Name: King Mathis

Age: 37
Region: Kanto
Bond Pokemon: Moltres
Notable facts: Bonded at age twelve, three years after the death of Kanto’s sole monarch and Zapdos, during which Kanto relied on Johto’s monarchy. He took full control over the Kanto region at age sixteen, after training under Johto’s monarchy for four years. He is revered by the people of Kanto, and is known as a kind, gentle man. He is best known for his focus on re-establishing Kanto’s independence, though their relationship with Johto is still very strong.

Name: King Alexander

RULES

1. No god-modding / no Mary Sues (no perfect/ invincible characters. You cannot dodge every hit or win every battle!)

2. No powerplaying (“bunnying”) without permission, unless exceptionally minor in order to progress the RP. THIS MEANS NO AUTO-HITTING (do NOT harm another player’s character in your own post. It is up to the RPer themselves to decide 1. IF they are hit by an attack and 2. To what DEGREE the attack affected them)!

I will first gently remind you and then whine at you excessively and publically if you continue to break either of the two above rules. I have the right to ask you to leave the RP if it gets out of hand. Pls don’t do it.

2a. Sonja will act as group-controlled NPC, meaning anybody can bunny her freely without invoking any wrath from the above rule, and it fact this is encouraged. You can converse with her, move her, put her in danger, etc, so long as you don't kill her, gravely injure her, or have her be kidnapped or something like that without permission. Just make sure she stays in character!

3. The character limit is ONE human and ONE bond pokemon per RPer. Your character must already have their bond pokemon to be eligible.

4. Sign-ups are limited and will close after the RP begins. PLEASE do not sign-up for this RP if you aren’t going to be active as you’re taking the slot away from another person.

4a. ^When I say “active”, I mean keeping up with the group, whatever that ends up being.

Sign-up form

Your character does not need to be from Unova nor currently living there, but must have some connection to the region and must be able to quickly get to the starting place of the RP, which will be Pledge Grove in southern Unova.

Sonja's SU:

NOTE: You may suggest additions or changes to Sonja or Keldeo up until the RP starts.

Name: Sonja Overbay
Gender: Female
Age: 9
Occupation: Fourth Grade Student

Appearance: Sonja has long, dark brown hair that reaches several inches past her shoulders. Sometimes her mother will braid it for her, or she'll let her friends mess it up attempting to do the same, but she doesn't know how to braid it herself. She has deep blue eyes, thin lips, a oval-shaped face, and a slight overbite. She is missing her left lateral incisor, though the adult tooth is starting to grow in its place. She doesn't wear makeup as she isn't allowed, and doesn't usually wear much jewellery either, though her wrists are often adorned with friendship bracelets that she likes to exchange with the other girls in her class.

Sonja currently stands at 4'7", though she will likely reach an adult height of 5'8", similar to her mother. Sonja typically sports a t-shirt and shorts. She has a preference for brightly coloured clothing, particularly anything that is pink, blue, or purple (with purple being her favourite colour). She has a pair of purple sneakers that she usually wears outdoors.

Personality: Sonja is a kind, thoughtful girl who gets along very well with other children her age, but is initially shy around anybody older than her. That being said, it can be difficult to remember that she is only nine years old as she is mature for her age and can hold conversations about politics, history, and current events with adults unusually well. Of course, more typical of girls her age, she also enjoys discussing what she learns about in school, her favourite novels, and favourite television shows. In particular she idolizes Unova Champion Iris, who is a popular role model for young girls.

She dislikes math and has trouble with spelling, but other than that is a good student and genuinely enjoys school (the exception being homework). She likes the idea of sports as she likes playing with other children, but is usually one of the last kids picked for a team and is aware that she's not much of an athlete. She takes violin lessons once a week and prefers music to sports.

A common conversation topic for kids her age is what pokemon they will eventually be bonded with and what career path they will take. Sonja thought she would eventually become a family court judge, because she is a good listener and likes to help other people sort out their problems. She is empathetic and does not like to see other people feel sad. For whatever reason, she felt she was destined to bond with a natu, despite never having seen one in real life. This is probably because she is fascinated by most psychic-type pokemon.

Although mature for her age, Sonja is naturally still childishly naive about many aspects of the world. She is curious about anything she doesn't understand and will usually ask the nearest trusted adult as soon as she has a question. She also is a bit too serious for her own good, and sometimes doesn't understand when somebody is joking around with her. In these cases she will offer either a politely confused smile or a blank head tilt, but doesn't usually humor them with much of a verbalized response. She also dislikes being playfully teased by adults, particularly about boys in her class, and will decline to respond to anybody teasing her about romance.

History: Sonja was born and raised in Aspertia City, Unova. She is an only child. Her mother, bonded with a munna, works as a high school teacher. The munna, nicknamed Gumdrop, typically floats around the classroom and is very efficient at catching students trying to cheat on tests. Her father, bonded with a pansage, works as a commercial bus driver. His bond pokemon more represents his love for nature, and Sonja has spent many a days in the nearby forests with him, safe with Pansage watching over her. Sonja's parents were always highly supportive of her, and they share a healthy relationship.

Sonja was always a bright child and had many friends at school, but never felt that she was destined for anything extraordinary. Meeting Keldeo was a complete shock, and she is nervous for the journey ahead and doubtful that she can actually complete it. At the same time, she wishes for Unova to gain back its full independence and is willing to try her best with help from the Guardians.

He tends to urge the group onwards if he catches them trying to take breaks or slacking off, though he will relent if he notices Sonja wishing to join in. He does not have any memories from before appearing in front of Sonja.

History: Very recently met Sonja at the pond in the back of Aspertia City. As a legendary pokemon, he will act as a powerful symbol of Sonja's monarch status, and will help to escort her through the Journey of Trials.

Moveset: N/A - Legendary pokemon relearn their moves gradually over the Journey of Trials.

That's fine, so long as Monster Guy wasn't intending to use Togekiss (since Togekiss has a unique type combo aside from Togetic). Is that cool with you Mon?

It's the same time period as B2W2, so modern era.

Monster Guy

Fairy type Trainer
Togekiss was one of the mons I was considering... but actually, this helps make my choice of which character to use easier. xD

Reserving a character with compassion as a trait and Ralts/Kirlia/Gardevoir as a bond pokemon. (The history needs to be written so which form it'll be in is up in the air...)

Question: How exactly does one bond with a Pokemon?

Noted! Reserves updated.

Question: How exactly does one bond with a Pokemon?

Usually the bond pokemon will begin to seek out the trainer, and the trainer will also feel a draw toward the bond pokemon. Once they meet they are considered bonded, and will instantly feel a strong connection to one another. With normal pokemon that's all there is to it, it's only the legendary pokemon that have a more drawn-out bonding process. Of course you can get more creative than that in your SU if you'd like. xD

Sketchie

literally some guy
WIP, please and thank you. Question, would the age of 7 be acceptable for a person to Bond?

Theme Songs: Don't Give Up // Toby Fox, Abraham // Sufjan Stevens

WvbRFNy.png

Appearance: First and foremost, Joshua is soft. His appearance is just... soft and demure, his skin is soft, his hair is soft, his gaze is soft. There is almost nothing rough about him. Secondly, Joshua is RIDICULOUSLY tall. He has the nickname "Joshua the Great" because he's so tall. He stands at 6'8", and he's on the thin side. He's not so thin that he's awkward and gangling, but graceful and serene, almost elfish in feature. His skin is a soft pale, and dotted with light freckles across the bridge of his nose and his shoulders and honestly? Everywhere. His hair is very soft and platinum blonde, a little on the long side, part of his bangs usually covering his right eye. His eyes are large and expressive, and a dazzling gunmetal blue. His eyebrows are clean and thin, and darker than his hair. Again, his features are nigh elfish -- smooth lines and curves, defined cheeks, jaw, and collarbones. His nose is sharp and smooth, his lips thin. He doesn't have much body hair to begin with, and it's very light so it doesn't show up. He keeps himself clean-shaven anyway. The veins in his hands and forearms protrude some, and faint veins/arteries show up nicely against his skin. His voice is very open, with a sound like liquid silver, and as deep as the Marina Trench. Joshua is missing his left leg from about the mid-thigh down, and has a simple prosthetic to, y'know, walk. The prosthetic is quite light, and made of black carbon fiber.

As for clothing, he's pretty simple. He mostly wears dark colors, primarily in blues and greens, though the occasional light blue will be thrown in there. He prefers simple t-shirts and jeans, with gray converse. That's... pretty much it. He wears a woven leather band on his left wrist, and a cross necklace underneath his shirt.

Personality: Joshua is a very calm person. "Angry" is not a word you could ever use to describe Joshua. Ever. He is very laid-back, and quite often, a content person. He does go through periods of sadness, and while he's never angry, he can be quite fearful. He isn't the type of person to throw himself into the action, he has to be nicely nudged. He wants the best for others, though. He wants people to be happy and joyful. He is incredibly sweet and charming, and very loving as well as being very lovable. He loves to be loved. He loves to be dragged along to things, and he loves being with people. When he loves someone, whether platonically or romantically, he gives them his all. He wants them to be better, he longs for a better life. He hates anger, and will often leave if things start heating up. He will break down in an argument, and hates confrontation. However. If pushed hard enough, Joshua will lash out. And you don't want to be there if that happens.

Joshua is VERY sensitive, to everything. This is both a good and a bad thing -- he will adore the little kind things, but he's upset easily. He hates it when people call him out on this. He knows he's sensitive, you don't need to comment. Joshua is a loyal, trusting, and warm kind of person, as well as being very trustworthy. He's a natural confidant. His internal drive is to help people. He has no problems with blood or needles, and combined these two aspects into a love of nursing. He wants to be a nurse so he can help heal. Despite being very calm, Joshua is low-key passionate about everything. It can be hard to tell, because of how laid-back he is, but he does put a lot of work into the things he loves and cares about. He's very smart, and does well in school no matter the topic. (Except PE, he gets too scared and self-conscious to function properly in those classes.)

Joshua is a very artistic person. He loves reading and writing poetry, he loves playing with ink, and he loves photography. His poetry and photography are very important to him, and he clings to these hobbies as Major Personality Traits. He adores flowers, they're likely the key to his heart. He has a book full of pressed flowers. His room has a vase of dried ones. He loves beauty, and can easily find it anywhere he looks. Joshua is also very talented at learning languages, and is fluent in Dutch, English, ASL, German, French, and Swedish. He's currently learning Arabic for the hell of it. He wants to be loved. Joshua could be considered bi, but he's 90/10 and more attracted to guys, so often just pegs himself as gay. He loves music, and has been primarily captivated with stringed instruments. He plays the guitar, the piano, and the cello, though he's been learning how to play the violin recently. He has a lovely singing voice, and can be caught singing when he doesn't think anyone else is around. Joshua is a non-denominational Christian, and reads the bible pretty often for someone who's not religious. He's also a morning person, and loves the sunrise.

While Joshua spends much of his life seemingly calm and content, there is a storm constantly brewing in his mind. Joshua suffers from depression, anxiety, and PTSD. His anxiety has a way of ruling his life, and he often lets his worries get the best of him. He has little to no faith in himself. He's easily flustered and wears his heart on his sleeve, and has a very hard time saying no to people. Joshua is incredibly insecure, and is terrified of failure. He's afraid that if he fails, his world will shatter and he will fall apart. He has kept a delicate balance in his world, and fights to keep it. He is easily startled, and loud, sudden noises will often put him into a panic. Fireworks are his worst nemesis. He wants to get better, but he can't imagine a future, so it's difficult for him to do so. He can be very pessimistic, and will usually listen to the negative voice. He cries, and he hates that too.

In all, Joshua is a good kid. His primary drive is to make others feel safe and happy, he wants to heal people. Despite his disbelief in a future, he wants to believe that he too will be healed. He so desperately wants a future. He's very determined, and will fight for others' futures, believing that he will find a future of his own. He is tenacious, and if he truly wants something, he will go after it. He mostly wants other's happiness. He's strong, and even though much has been thrown his way, he wants to keep going. He's been through hell and back. He has no faith in himself, but he wants that faith. He refuses to give up.

History: Joshua was an accident. Ten years younger than his older brother Caleb, Joshua caught his parents by surprise. His father left before he was born, leaving Rachel Hoffman to care for the two boys on her own. Both Caleb and Joshua are biblical names -- they were named for the two Israelites who returned from the land of Canaan with a good report. Rachel taught her sons the bible, though none of them were religious. Unfortunately, despite being a decent caregiver and breadwinner, there wasn't much good in Rachel. She was very rough, and with her husband gone, there wasn't much to tell her what to do.

Caleb had been dealing with his mother far longer than Joshua ever could, and was used to it. He had a strong personality, the kind everyone loved. But, he had put up walls to protect himself, and those walls would never, could never come down. He immediately took to his younger brother, offering love, protection, and support. Rachel was physically and verbally abusive, to both boys. Caleb knew how to handle it, -ish. Joshua was sensitive, and broke down crying quite a bit. Whenever something happened, Caleb would be right by Joshua's side, and would tell his bonded pokemon, Staravia, to watch after his little brother while he was at school. Caleb showed Joshua the world, and Joshua felt almost as much joy as Caleb did when Staravia evolved into Staraptor.

Caleb was handsome, strong, well liked by the ladies, and carried the Hoffman traits of being ridiculously tall and quite blonde. He went to a culinary school, and was well liked by almost everyone. For his whole life, he had put up with the abuses of his mother, and he hid it so well that no one noticed a thing. Unfortunately, in return for less focus on his little brother, his mother began to sexually abuse him. Caleb took it like he had taken everything else -- just let it happen, it will be over soon. The years of stress, the added weight, everything started to wear down on Caleb. One summer day, when he was 17 years old, he felt as though his world was coming crashing down, and he couldn't hold himself up any longer. He tearfully waved Staraptor off, not wanting his precious bird around to stop him. He spent the day locked up in his room, away from everyone, away from Joshua. Joshua wandered the house alone, confused as to where everyone went. He was fine with his mother being gone, but usually someone was home. The house was cold and dark. Caleb had to be home, it was late. Where was he? The door to his room is ajar. Maybe he's...

The first thing Joshua saw was a gun to Caleb's head. The last thing Caleb saw was a horrified Joshua. Time seemed to slow down as Caleb fell, then crashed into Joshua's face as his body hit the floor. Joshua was overcome. Tears started pouring down his face, and the only thing he could do was run away, as fast as his little seven-year-old body could handle. As he ran out of his house and into the woods, he suddenly felt like he was drawn deeper, as though something was waiting for him. As he wandered into the forest, heartbroken and lost and confused, he ran into a small, egg-like pokemon. His heart softened as the egg pokemon reached up to him. He walked home with the egg pokemon he would later learn to be togepi, as the small creature wiped away his tears. Joshua named the togepi Isaac, after the son of Abraham. He had always felt close to that story, of a father almost sacrificing a son, only to be stopped by the hand of God.

Joshua came home to police lights and investigators. The notes written by Caleb revealed the hells he had gone through, and Joshua's living witness confirmed it. Rachel was taken to court, and was found guilty. She was taken away, leaving young Joshua alone. His mother was jailed, his father had nearly fallen off the map, Rachel had no siblings -- but his father did. Coming out of the woodwork at this time was Aaron Hoffman, Joshua's uncle. He had just returned to his home in Nacrene after a study abroad session. He was contacted if he would take care of the boy, and Aaron quickly accepted. Joshua was taken into his large home in one of the Nacrene City warehouses, and quickly made it his home. He was enthralled by all the art and love and life. Aaron was an art history professor at Nacrene University, and Joshua was shown the wide world of the fine arts. Joshua slowly learned to love. He bonded close to Isaac, who evolved into Togetic. Joshua was ecstatic; Caleb bonded with a bird, and so did he.

As he grew up, he found a love for music, especially stringed instruments. He was started young on the violin before branching out into piano, and eventually guitar. He loved to paint, especially with all of Aaron's india ink just lying around. Joshua's whole life had changed suddenly, and little Joshua had no problem with it. He grew stronger, taller, and by the age of twelve, he was the tallest in his class, and would stay that way for the rest of his schooling years. However, tragedy struck when he was thirteen -- or rather, a car struck.

Joshua was waiting in the car for Aaron. It had been a long day at the University, and the parking lot was nigh empty. Joshua sat in the driver's seat, he liked leaning on the steering wheel, pretending he was the one driving. He was leaning back, stretching one ridiculously long leg and keeping the other tucked underneath him. He had his eyes closed, listening to music, and opened his eyes only to see the headlights of an oncoming car. Two drunk college students were playing around in the parking lot, and crashed into Aaron's car head on. Joshua found his left leg crushed and pinned underneath the twisted metal of the car. He could barely cry out in pain, let alone move. When he was finally removed from the car, his left leg was mangled, the bones shatters. The rest of Joshua's body was still beaten up, a broken rib, a fractured arm, bruises and cuts, but he healed eventually. His left leg, unfortunately, was so twisted and shattered and mangled that it wouldn't heal, an slowly started to die. Joshua was faced with amputation, or death. And so, he fell asleep in a hospital, and woke up with his left leg gone from the mid-thigh down. It was devastating to the boy. His emotional state was already compromised, with the onset of depression, anxiety, and PTSD from the years before, but the loss of his leg plunged him in a deep depression. He felt alone, hopeless, future-less. On being released from the hospital, Joshua was given a dawn stone by Aaron, allowing Isaac to evolve into a beautiful Togekiss.

It was poetry, photography, and a prosthetic that pulled Joshua out of his depression. The fight left in Joshua refused to give in, and he found solace and comfort in reading poetry. He collected poems and hung them about his room. He used the camera on his phone to take pictures of things mentioned in the poems he loved, or merely things he found beautiful. It was only a month after the surgery that Joshua received his prosthetic limb and started physical therapy. With Isaac's support, he threw himself into therapy, he began to write poems, he was given a camera for his 14th birthday. He continued musicking, and overcame his months long trials of being lopsided. Eventually, he even came to love it that way. He missed feeling in his left leg, sure, but it was amusing to take his leg off in front of people.

Joshua had always been an amazing student, and after the mandatory 8th grade education, he went to a specialized school in Nacrene. The nurses and doctors he had worked with throughout his leg trauma had inspired him -- they got to help people all day! He was enthralled by the medical field, and swore he would one day join them. The next few years are (finally) pretty uneventful, mostly Joshua got better at the things he liked doing and things he had to do, he switched out his prosthetic every few years, and was accepted into Nacrene University when he was only 17. Two years later, he was accepted into the medical college at Nacrene, though he's decided to take a break in schooling before he formally goes into the program. Which is good, since apparently, he's got to go help some kid be the monarch. Y'know. That's cool, he's down.

Nickname: Isaac
Species: Togekiss
Gender: Male
Personality: MY SON. Isaac is happy-go-lucky, nothing can bring him down. He loves life and people and joy! He wants to see people happy! Especially Joshua. Isaac is a kind pokemon, and will do everything in his power to make people feel better. He aids in Joshua's mental hiccups, and is right by his side during a depressive episode, an anxiety attack, panic attack, even just when Joshua's afraid. He is very protective of those he loves.
History:
Moveset:
- Aura Sphere
- Sky Attack
- Air Slash
- Dazzling Gleam
Ability: Serene Grace
Other: Bigger than your standard Togekiss. Like, much bigger. 4'11" is what's written down on the pokedex, and I'm assuming that's wingspan, so we'll consider Isaac's wingspan to being closer to 5'8", maybe even bigger than that.

Seven would be considered very young and unusual. Ages 10-11 is typical while 9 would be a bit early and 8 very early. But if you want to make a case for your character to have bonded that early I'll accept it.

I forgot to note this in Sonja's SU but legendary trainers usually bond a little older than usual so nine is considered very young for her as well.

Monster Guy

Fairy type Trainer
Yes, this is a reused character. This is however her first time being used in Pokemon.

I have no idea if the Pokemon equivalent of Italy exists or not, but I used Blatantly French André before Kalos became a thing sooo... whatever. :p

Name: Cadenza Mia Amoré
Nickname: Cadence
Gender: Female
Age: 18
Guardian Trait Compassion
Occupation: Culinary Arts Student

FuPN8Ly.png

Appearance: Cadence is about average height for a young woman her age, standing at about 5'6". She has a slender frame, with feminine curves in all the right places. Her breasts are decently sized, not too big but not small either. She was born with smooth fair skin, which doesn't get tanned easily. She has long, light blonde hair, that fades into lavender at the ends, and goes down to her waist. She keeps her bangs swept to the side, kept out of her eyes using some type of headband. She has a heart shaped face, with a small nose, large, expressive eyes that are a deep violet color that usually a childlike sparkle to them, as well as long eyelashes attached to them. She goes out of her way to make sure she looks "cute", and works to maintain it.

Cadence is very much into fashion, and spends a lot of money on it. She has many wardrobes filled with enough clothes to dress a small country. Her outfits tend to vary, but they usually contain a lot of purple, her favorite color. She also has a preference for skirts and dresses over pants. Her current outfit is a consists of a fancy looking purple dress with short puff sleeves. It is perfectly tailored to her body, so it fits well, but isn't skintight and too revealing. The skirt part is frilly, and flairs out, only reaching to slightly above her knee. She wears purple heels on her feet that are decorated with bows. Her legs are covered by lavender thigh-high stockings. She wears a purple headband on top of her head with a bow attached to it, which she says adds cuteness to her look. She accessorizes with gold jewelry (Necklace, bracelet, and the gold band of her amethyst ring) as well as amethyst earrings hanging from her ears. She carries her things in a purple purse, Her face is decorated with a light amount of make-up (lavender eyeshadow, a light amount of blush, and lip gloss.) Her nails are also painted lavender.

Personality: Cadence is a friendly, cheerful, and optimistic girl. In spite of any chaos that may be going on, she manages to put on a smile. Despite being from a wealthy family, she doesn't believe it makes her better than anyone else. She spends time around many kinds of people from different backgrounds, and tries to find good in everybody. While she tries to act like a proper lady, she doesn't always do a very good job of it. Around others she can come across as silly and childish. However, while it may look like she doesn't take anything seriously, she's smarter than people give her credit for. She's been groomed since young to inherit the family business, in addition to receiving a formal education at an early age, but she had to put in a lot of effort in order to do well. Her mother would never be pleased if she did only enough to get by. Cadence is a feminine girl, and she has an affinity for cute things.

Cadence is a compassionate, nurturing girl. She is always there to help others, and is normally really sympathetic and empathetic with anyone who is in trouble. She cares deeply for others, is also very maternal. She sees her friends as her family and will do anything to protect them even putting herself in danger. In regards to this she can be a bit rash. If she sees something threatening someone she cares for she will rush in to danger not thinking of the consequences of her actions. While she is not stupid by any means, she is very much naive when it comes to the real world. She's easily tricked, and is prone to giving anything she has to someone in need in the name of love.

Cadence is the type that wears her heart on her sleeve. It is easy to hurt her feelings, but it doesn't take much to cheer her up again. Growing up she was always told romantic bed time stories involving a damsel in distress and a knight in shining armor. As a result of this, Cadence loves love. She believes it's the best feeling in the world. She believe's everyone, no matter how much of a jerk they may be deserves love. Her beliefs have been instilled into her since young, and she's very outspoken and passionate about them. She's a hopeful romantic, and often acts flirty towards men she likes, hoping they're Mr. Right, and find that special someone so she can get her own Fairy Tale happy ending. She tends to think every guy she's with is "the one" and takes it very seriously, making her seem clingy and overly dependent. She gets easily attached to people she's grown to like, and it upsets her when the object of her affections doesn't share her feelings, and will do anything to keep them around. She also likes to help other people find love as well, and plays matchmaker for people whether they asked for it or not.

History: Cadenza Amoré was born in Undella, to Italian parents. She grew up in a prominent, wealthy, upperclass family. The Amoré family tree contains a long line of successful women. As the eldest daughter of her mother, Lovina Amoré, Cadence would one day be one of them. Cadence lived a very extravagant lifestyle. Her parents showered her and her younger brother Lorenzo, with love and affection. Cadence loved her family and they loved her, it was as simple as that. Her mother read her daughter many fairy tales when she was growing up. They usually involved lovers overcoming all odds to be together. These stories instilled in her the belief that love can conquer any obstacle.

Cadence was always close with Lorenzo, especially after he bonded with a Cleffa, and she with a Ralts. She always looked after him, and defended him from bullies. They shared the same interests in cute things, and fashion. Cadence was even the first person Lorenzo told that he was gay. Of course, he didn't have much of a choice there, since she caught her brother kissing a boy one day. She loves talking about guys with him.

Since she was able to walk and talk, she was groomed to carry on the Amoré reputation. She was homeschooled by scholars and tutors that were handpicked by her parents. This lasted until she was of age to start junior high school, then she attended a prestigious boarding school in the Unova region, in order to be able to interact with others her own age. Her mother thought it was ridiculous that basic schooling stopped when they were still a teenager. While she performed well enough, she found it very tiresome trying to live up to her family's standards. She cared more about finding her one true love, and getting her own happy ending. Just like the ones in the stories she was told. Before she went to boarding school, she bonded with a Ralts that she named Lucia.

One day, she met a handsome, blonde haired, blue eyed, young man named Valentino. He was assigned to be her tutor when her grades started slipping, and she helped babysit his nerdy younger sister. They're relationship was professional at first, and her grades did improve with his help. Eventually, they became something more. She likes to say their meeting was love at first sight, but it took quite a long time of getting to know each other before they officially professed their love, and consumated the relationship. The affair was passionate, and romantic. They even took on the Gym challenge together. Valentino was also bonded with a Ralts like Cadence was, and he wanted to do the Gym challenge for personal reasons. Cadence did it with him for support, and so their Pokemon could evolve, and they would have matching Gardevoir and Gallade. Cadence's goal of having matching Pokemon with her boyfriend was a success. They were both certain that they were destined to be together, and that this was going to last forever.

Ultimately, it wasn't meant to be. Valentino had to move away from Undella to to attend military school, and join the army, forcing him to leave Cadence behind. Meanwhile, Cadence studied at a Culinary Arts school to learn to become a chef. Her goal was to open her own Italian restaurant. The two promised to keep in touch, and they even agreed to get married once they finished their education. For a few months, the two exchanged letters, and occasional phone calls. It was like they never left. Then, the communication suddenly stopped. Months had passed, and Cadence hadn't heard a word from her lover, and she was starting to get worried. She would come to find out later, that Valentino had died in a car accident where the other driver was drunk. The death of her lover saddened and confused the girl. She was certain they were meant to be together, and when you're meant to be with someone you'll find each other no matter what, right? That's what the stories say. She refuses to believe that her mother's teachings were wrong, there must be someone else out there for her, or Valentino would find his way back to her. Although heartbroken by Valentino's death, she helps other people find love as a way to heal. She keeps a cheerful attitude, and is still searching for her happily ever after.

Currently, her main focus is to finish Culinary Arts school, as well as find a suitable boyfriend for Lorenzo. As well as dating boys herself. That is, until Lucia informed her that she had been selected to be one of the guardians for the future princess of Unova. Cadence was on board as soon as she heard the word princess. This sounded like a Fairy-tale adventure, and she just had to be a part of it.

Other:

Speaks Italian, and often peppers her speech with Italian words and phrases.
She is good at cooking.

Bonded Pokemon

Nickname: Lucia
Species: Gardevoir
Gender: Female

Personality: Lucia is a graceful an elegant Pokemon. Much like her partner, she is also compassionate and romantic. She gets easily worried when her trainer, or anyone she cares about in distress, She does sometimes have to reel her trainer in when she gets too impulsive. Cadence and her do everything together, from cooking in the kitchen, to shopping for clothes.

History: Not much to say really. She bonded with a wild Ralts that happened to have wandered off. Probably in search of her bonded trainer, considering Ralts are not native to Undella. She evolved into Kirlia, and then to Gardevoir after Cadence took on the Gym challenge.

Metallic Wonder
Name: Rory Denver
Gender: Male
Age: 18
Guardian Trait: Reliability
Occupation: Business school
PYbkoCc.png

Appearance: Looks makes the first impression, and Rory knows this well. He carries himself in high fashion. He is above average tall, and has a genetically slender physique. He is quite fit as he has worked in the mines with his father anc Excadrill during most of his mid-childhood, and he works out to maintain this look. His skin is somewhere between normal and "Omg burn the Vampire", making a contrast to his black hair. His hair is at medium length, and is naturally messy. he keeps it quite regular, as he doesn't bother to worry about fashionable hairstyles, as he pulls off the messy look just fine. To continue on the Vampire theme, he has bright, red eyes, inherited from his mother. He was often called "Vampire-boy" when young, although his paleness is a result from working in the mines of Driftveil City. He has dark, bushy eyebrows which he keeps maintained in order to avoid that barbaric look everyone knows he'd have if he skipped trimming every few days, which also underlines that Stern and serious look he has going on. Besides that, he has a pretty fair face, and many would consider him attractive. Once again: Looks makes the first impression.

To carry on on that saying, Rory dresses in a modern, fashionable and formal suit, consisting of a dark blue dress jacket, and tight, black jeans. He wears comfortable and practical, yet formal-looking shoes as well. under the suit, he wears a simple, white shirt, and a black tie. Since he is not from a very wealthy family, he cares a great deal about his appearance, detesting getting his suit dirty. He doesn't wear any accessories of any sort. His suit is tailored to fit his physique, through contacts of his father, making him look like he is from an entirely different class than he really is.

Personality: Rory is a stern and serious person. He is calculating, and cunning, always thinking ahead regardless of the situation. Due to his family's circumstances, he prioritize himself above others for a majority of the time, and often come across as egoistic because of it. He cares little for trivial things, and often plan ahead. He plans to succeed in life, being able to economically support his family as a result. This makes him set aside emotions of any sort outside of what he is comfortable with. He never opens up to anybody, safe from Houndoom, whom which he shares an inseparable bond with. To Rory, emotion is weakness, and is best kept to himself. He carries himself with a calm and collected posture, rarely ever showing any signs of emotion, although his facade can be seen through on rare occasions. Though he dislikes admitting it, he feels he needs to carry everyones burdens on his own shoulders.

Despite all that, he is a friendly character, being open to more or less anyone he meets. Despite his goals and means, he is fully capable of forming friendships, and treasure them wherever he finds them. He has somewhat of a control issue, and feels the need to carry other peoples burdens on his shoulders, trying to fix them all on his own. He doesn't know why he acts this way, but it might be a portion of his desire to have control over every aspect of his life, even though he is unaware of this to a wide degree. He is determined, as he feels one should be if they really want to succeed in life. due to this, he makes it his personal mission to see his tasks through, making him Very reliable.

Although he carries himself in a stern and "Leave me be, peasant"- kind of posture, he is well aware of where he comes from. having grown up in a below average wealthy family, he cherishes school, education and reliable income. due to his family's contacts in Driftveil, he got the chance of a real education, unlike his parents. He never takes anything fro granted, and knows well that he needs to work if he wants to get anywhere. He is stern and he is serious, but Rory does have a more "human" side to him. mostly circumstantial, he enters a more laid back persona where he is prone to humor (although Dark) and social awareness. Although he won't admit to it, he values friendships, and knows contacts are vital to a fruitful business-life. He feels weird when trying to open up to people, and gets that Cold and egoistic stereotype, despite trying to avoid it to a certain degree.

History: Rory was born into a family living under the average state of wealth in Driftveil City. His father worked in the mines in the outskirts of the city, while his mother worked at a local market, selling goods they grew in their backyard. Rory always showed an aptitude for knowledge and education, and his parents saved up money from early on to be able to send him to school, hoping he would make a name for himself, and to be able to live a life different from what they did.

And fairly enough, they did manage to send him to school, where he showed great promise. Despite that, he did have to work with his father in the mines at a young age, while his younger sister observed his mother at the market. He learned the value of hard work, and the profits they brought. Being schooled in the early afternoon, and working late afternoon, he had little spare time, and never really got to forge friendships with other kids in town. This wasn't uncommon, as most children in Driftveil helped out their parents at their workplace, destined to take their place some day.

At the age of 10, Rory met with a Houndour during a late night trip home from work with his father. Since his father had already bonded with an Excadrill, he explained the whole ordeal to Rory, who did not understand it at al. To Rory, bonding with a Pokemon was just a way of forcing a friendship, and he wouldn't have it. The Houndour more or less stalked them for a few days until Rory began to understand he was thinking more of the Pokemon than of work and school. It bugged him, but he decided to meet with the Pokemon after school one day, and the two immediately hit it off. After that, Houndour was welcomed into the family with open arms. As a result of this, Rorys parents decided they would focus more on his education, as Driftveil was, if not a labour-driven town, a center of regional business. After High School, while waiting for a reply to an application for an internship at a local marketing-agency, Rory decided to try out for the local Gym Challenge. Since the leader, Clay, was a friend of his father, he had allowed for Rory to try his luck and skill, though not recommended due to his age. Rory tried, however, and Hades evolved in the process, but alas, the dynamic duo failed in the end.

Being set back by this, Rory decided to shut himself in more and focus on studies and his internship. Ironically enough, Clay was his boss in the workplace, and seeing him every day only strengthened his resolve. He quickly made a name for himself, from being a coffee-bringer, to being an office worker, to being an actual voice to be heard during negtiations. At the age of 18, he has a promising future, juggeling his now part time job with his study of the marketing-business.

Other:
- Although he is very awkward with romances, he is bisexual.

229.gif

Bonded Pokemon: Houndoom
Nickname: Hades
Gender: Male
Personality: Unlike Rory, Hades is a caring Pokemon. Due to their bond, they understand each other, and few words needs to be expressed. Hades is the only one Rory feels capable of opening up to, and the duo often spend time together at remote areas, talking things through, or simply crying out due to the stress. As Rory, Hades is reliable, although a little more reserved than Rory is. Firecely loyal to Rory, he carries out any action with little hesitation.
History: Hades was met as a Houndour by Rory outside the mines around Driftveil City. As with most Pokemon bondings, as the two briefly met, it just clicked. It took some time before Rory understood it, but by that time Houndour had followed him around like a lost puppy. After being educated on the concept of bonding, he immediatley understood, and Houndour was accepted into the household. He didn't evolve until Rory took on the Driftveil City Gym challenge, and even though he evolved, the pair still lost the challenge due to type disantvantages.
Moveset:
- Dark Pulse
- Smog
- Thunder Fang
- Flamethrower
Ability: Early Bird: Houndoom rarely sleeps, and is always on the alert.
Other: N/A

Tis the Hour to Reload
You know what. SCREW EVERYTHING. I haven't been in a Pokémon RP in a while and I FRICKIN' LOVE THIS IDEA.

Reserve me the Friendship trait. I'm still debating whether to go with my first thought (a familiar Solaris) or my second (the son of one of my other characters, Valentina Araw).

I feel we're all just copying the Crests from Digimon in terms of traits. lol

helloooo ladies
Hi there! This looks super interesting & I haven't roleplayed for ages! Is it okay if I put in a reservation for a character with the trait of patience, and the pokémon Porygon (Normal)? Thank you so much!! ♡

@ Schade, TheCharredDragon, Janice Quatlane - Reserves noted!

There's only one spot left! That was quick!

So, wait, what happens to a pokemon if their person dies?

They usually hang around for a few days to mourn and say goodbye to its trainers friends/family, then they "vanish". Generally this means they either return to the wild, or pass away themselves. In either case, they are never seen again. Although, if they had a particularly strong connection to their trainer's family, they may hang around for longer, though their personality usually changes from the death and they act more depressed. (If anyone wants this idea to be different for their SU purposes I'm open to other suggestions too!)

However, if the roles are reversed and the pokemon dies before their trainer, a person may be able to bond with another pokemon, or they may not. Generally younger people will bond again and older people will not. The new pokemon may or may not be the same species as it was the first time.

I feel we're all just copying the Crests from Digimon in terms of traits. lol

Are you? Haha, not that it matters any. I'm not familiar with Digimon, although this idea of being closely partnered with one pokemon is pretty similar to it.

Another question, how do bonded Pokemon talk to their partners? Do Pokemon only say their names, speak human speech, communicate telepathically...?

A bond pair can understand each other as if they were both speaking human. An outsider can only hear a Pokemon say it's name. All legendary Pokemon can also communicate telepathically to all people and Pokemon as if they were speaking human.
