Let's all recommend obscure music!

Are you a fan of Skepticism by any chance?
Yep, I have Skepticism's Farmarkon album which is pretty good. I think my favourite doom band has to be Esoteric*. It's just so crushingly heavy but at the same time I find it very demure.

*Ignoring ASVA who barely qualify as a doom band even though that's the genre they're labelled.

neil young isn't really "obscure" anymore but i love On the Beach (this is coming from someone who isn't a fan of most of his type of music at all btw).

i know there's already plenty of metal in this thread, but i can't emphasize enough how great Vektor is.
i'd say their genre, and other similar bands, but i think everyone should give this a try not knowing what to expect. just listen to this song all the way through to the end and if you don't like it and generally like anything that's even a little similar to it i will be greatly surprised. this album is that good.

some random hardcore bands that aren't obscure at all but will be to most people on the forum, given their general taste

Rome, who are quite neofolky (for lack of a better term). pretty, melancholy music. i think i might have recced em earlier but they deserve it again so w/e.

Cyclopian Slacker
diablo swing orchestra.swedish genre bending metal. its pretty obscure, and crosses metal with big band and swing and a little bit of opera. if you have the time, take a listen.

Go on Youtube. Look up Renard or nsrrenard. He has multiple personas, each with a different style of music. I personally prefer TQBF (Speedcore), Kitsune^2 (Chiptunes), and NegaRen (a bit of everyone else's styles). Give his music a try.

Hey guys. Does anyone listen to Cradle of Filth? If so, could you recommend me a few nice songs of them? Thanks!

Pseudo-Unlegendary

I be an Exotic One
The Minibosses They do retro video game covers and they sound really great.

VictiniMaster

Winning, Duh!
Witchcraft.

They sound like a mix Between The Doors, Cream, Led Zeppelin, and Black Sabbath. Pure Metal Magic.

Shade of Blue
Has anyone heard of 2Cents? They're like hardcore punk/alt metal but like no-one's heard of them.

Not really that obscure.

I've heard/listen to them~

Hmmm, I don't really know how difine 'obscure', as I listen to alot of bands peeps haven't heard of, but their 'popular'. I like Goldfinger.

Magically Delicious!
Ellie Goulding isn't all that obscure overseas, but she's still breaking into the American pop scene. Kind of a folky electronica pop sound that's fairly mellow, yet still dancey all at the same time.

Might as well give these guys a plug.

Tree of Knowledge is a loving ode to FM Synth tunes from the PC-98 dating sim days. They (coda & surasshu) are releasing this album under the pretense that it's the soundtrack of a long-lost eroge title from this age, and there's even character profiles and "screenshots" of the alleged game. I think the whole idea is wonderful and the music itself is really cool if you're into that kind of stuff, though clearly it's not, um, for everyone.

the things people consider "hardcore punk" nowadays is pretty ****ing funny.

some hardcore/crust/other punk related genres that's not that obscure but a lot of people here won't know

Minor Threat (hardcore firsts): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0tzZ__Z5Qw
Bad Brains: (see above, these guys also played reggae songs mixed with their hardcore stuff which was ****ing cool even though i didn't dig it): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnVRuH4vJWg
Doom (crust punk pioneers): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VcNIVlEV1Sw
Discharge (influenced hardcore, thrash metal, grindcore, and crust and one of the most important bands of heavy music imo): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i70zFUh5ugA
Assuck (standard grindcore): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=553LULWVDT0
Bolt Thrower (first album is grindcore, later stuff is death metal): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w398d6FOcH8
Terrorizer (features Napalm Death's guitarist and Morbid Angel's vocalist/drummer, basically death metal riffs played over a grind song structure but still grind as ****): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPNX4p1TTtc
Nuclear Death Terror (first wave black metal + crust): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XoWbNUS9l5I
Converge (modern metalcore that doesn't suck, though they've been around since the 90's): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0-FCmDcb0Q

anyone who still thinks hardcore is As I Lay Dying and grindcore is Job For A Cowboy should listen to this ****.

I stay noided

I laughed so hard when I heard that

all right, a few different bands...
Elliot Minor is an unknown band but does AMAZING symphonic rock... here and here

also Madina Lake... super duper epic alt/electro-rock band... here and here

in terms of British comedy-pop with generally naughty lyrics, the Midnight Beast is the way to go. better known then the other two but still not very well known, but awesome.

EDIT: oops... these aren't really obscure, they are just not-well-known bands :p
