Let's Go to the Galar Region! An Encounter with Scorbunny!! (1093)

The usual trash this new composer brings. NOTHING sounds good except the game remixes. All the new original music is forgettable and dull sounding. At times it sounds like I'm watching the dub. Canning Miyazaki is the biggest mistake the showrunners could have done. Because this new guy is completely out of his depth.
Music sounds good, honestly don't understand why yall hate it so much

I understand music is subjective but comparing the MHA Composers work to friggin Dub tier Ed Goldfarb on the same tier of quality actually makes my skin crawl LOL

I can’t help but chuckle at the Rotomphone’s national dex numbers, almost felt like they were poking fun at the games. Kusune is #827...but how? There are only about 400 Pokémon. Then the episode about Fushigisou, yes it’s certainly mysterious and strange to see a Pokémon that doesn’t exist. Now Go’s goal is “Gotta Catch Em’ All.”
I get you're joking around, but even Sword and Shield don't act like the pokemon you can get in the region are the only ones that exist. Recall the Fletchling wind vane on at least one house, and references to other regions, foreign pokemon forms, etc. Arceus even gets referenced in one of the Type:Null pokedex entries.

It's time for another Pokemon review! Go!

So this episode has Ash and Go heading to Galar to learn about the giant Pokemon that are there and meeting the final main character Scorbunny.

This episode was okay. I think that the plot was nonexistent compared to the last episode, but it was introducing Scorbunny to the us. The only thing that was important was that Ash and Go had to wait for the train to get to the wild area, so they get something to eat. The only reason why Ash has to chase the Nickit and Scorbuny around because Ash's backpack had the ticket in there. Which I was wondering why Ash didn't put it in his pocket?

I liked Sorobunny for helping the Nickit get food and making friend with them by putting dirt on itself so it can fit in. It like a combination of Ash's good nature towards others and Go's wanting to make friends. Go does tell Scorbunny to go places and meet people and Pokemon which he is learning as well. This plus the Nickit making the decision to following them was an okay scene. I wouldn't say that Scorbunny is as quirky as Rowlet or risk taking as Froakie, but I do like it has a good heart(which Scorbunny has two heart from the Pokedex) and wanting to make friends. The Nickit also show Scorbunny that they will be okay with out him by showing that they picked up the thing that Scorbunny does so they can steal the food.

There is not much to to say about this episode so I'll give this episode a C-

Dude's probably being escorted to Galar's Maximum Detainment Facility as we speak...

Aside from that one guy, I noticed that most if not all of the background pokemon in this episode are those only found in the Galar dex. Just a fun little nod.

Better say hi to Rose while he's there.

You know, the scene where Scorbunny had to give up its food for the Nickit made me fear they were e going for a "Scorbunny was being used" twist. Because Dark-types and all that. Glad to see they were legitimately friends.
And that's yet another reason why naming them Evil-type (for those who don't know, that's what the Dark type is known as in the JP version of the entire franchise) is the single stupidest thing in the entire franchise.

Music sounds good, honestly don't understand why yall hate it so much
They're too used to Miyazaki music screaming directly into their ears as well as inappropriately intense music being wasted on little spars like this. Anything quieter than the volume of a plane landing is intolerable to them.
In fact, were Miyazaki still the composer, Rose's battle theme would've been placed over the Pikachu vs Scorbunny battle. No doubt about that.
That said, I am absolutely elated to see a JP episode not treat a simple little spar like it's a battle against the saga's big bad. Mr. Goldfarb understands that not every battle is that important and Mr. Hayashi also understands that. Miyazaki didn't, and that's one of tons of things wrong with his Pokemon music.

Oh, and I can understand where comparisons to the dub music are coming from. As I said a few episode threads ago, Mr. Hayashi's music is a lot more relaxed and reserved than Miyazaki's music. The same is true of Mr. Goldfarb's music (though isn't it odd how Mr. Hayashi can get away with that (even though it's not wrong at all) but Mr. Goldfarb can't? I call privilege bias). Of course, most people making such comparisons are using that as a jab against Mr. Hayashi since they have a bias against dub music. Like all their "arguments", that one doesn't make any sense at all.

Anyway...

I was surprised and pleased to hear that Scorbunny didn't get an intolerably annoying voice like I thought he would. He avoided the unfortunate fate of JP Piplup and JP every-single-Pokemon-from-SM, thank God. I'd say JP Scorbunny's voice is like dub Meowth: endearingly annoying. It does suit his character.

I do hope Go catches Scorbunny soon instead of waiting until he gets Mew first. Oh, he totally will, knowing this show's nature as a commercial, showing that it's not always a bad thing that that's what this show is deep down.
And speaking of Go, this is the point where I'm beginning to wonder what his dub name will be. It'd have to be something adherent to his character, or something that incorporates his JP name somehow (a part of me is thinking (and hoping it won't be the case) that TPCi will rename him Gordon, simply because that name starts with "Go").

Four episodes in, and so far, no regrets about watching this in Japanese. I'll never betray the dub, but I'm glad the JP version stopped sucking.

Not liking Go's Rotom VA so far. Why does she have to shout at literally every sentence? It's kinda annoying.
Shouting every word is what just about everyone in the JP version does. That problem with this version still remains, and it's what ultimately keeps me from saying it's better than or even just equal to the dub.
I'm with you on Go's Rotomphone sounding annoying. It's the worst of the new voices so far (where it ranks on an overall list of worst JP voices isn't decided yet).

Let's be real, if not for the public announcement of Miyazaki retiring from Pokemon, I highly doubt 90% of people would notice the music was different or care that much. A lot of times it feels like people are merely bashing the music because it's not Miyazaki, and that feels unfair.

Love more people are joking about Turtwig kid.

It's more and more clear it's more of Pokémon Go The Anime than Pokémon SwSh The Anime. Turtwig is avaliable on Go, after all.

well that was a dull episode, I hope this isn’t standard for the new self contained focus because otherwise ash and gou interaction won’t save the series for long.

Honestly, I think that's exactly what this is about: most people won't accept anyone but Miyazaki as Pokemon composer. Mr. John Loeffler got that flack, Mr. Goldfarb's getting it, and now Mr. Hayashi is.

It's senseless. Absolutely senseless. And yes, horrendously unfair.

To be frank, it was pretty obvious from early synopses and episode titles that this series would lack an overarching plot. I went into this not expecting any of that and I come out a lot happier with each episode. If they're going to introduce one, it'd be later after the episodic region hopping gimmick wears off.

Right now, the best part of the series has to be Ash and Gou's dynamic. They're fun to watch. I hope the anime manages to keep it up and take it somewhere.

Pikachu is actually being treated like the Champion's Pikachu which I am also very happy about. It obliterated two hyper beams from a Gyarados and Tyranitar, was the only one to deal any damage to a legendary, and one-shot a Scorbunny. I'm also liking how Ash is being portrayed as a mixture of his SM self but not as over-the-top, and his competent self when it really matters. Better than XY in my opinion where he was just always badass 24/7 just for the sake of it.

To be fair, he does suck.
That's what Miyazaki stans want to believe, and they want me to join them in believing that nonsense as well as the whole "if a composer's not Japanese, they're instantly awful" mindset they have going on.
It's never going to happen. Give up.

I haven't even heard Miyazaki at all, but I don't need a comparison to tell Goldfarb is awful.

Bull

****.

I actually didn't have a problem with dub music until Goldfarb so..yeah I just think the man is trash
What you think of a person's music is better off not turning into hatred of the person who composed it. I may hate Miyazaki's music, but I know he's a good person. He'd have to commit a Weinstein-level atrocity to get me to hate him.

So let's not go thinking Mr. Goldfarb or any dub composer is anything like Weinstein just because they're in a business otakus arbitrarily decided is evil.

And also, just because I like the JP version now doesn't mean I've suddenly become a dub hater like a lot of people hoped I did.
