Level 50 Colosseum?

I seem to remember being able to have level 50/100 battles in Emerald in the Colosseum, but when my friend and I try to fight we don't see the option for it. We'd really like to just play and not have to restrict our pokemon to certain levels, but rather level up to whatever we want and then use the level 50/100 option to somewhat even the playing field.

Is my memory incorrect? Is there no level 50/100 option in multiplayer in Emerald, or does the option just open up later?
