Hmm...I guess I'll give this a try, but I'm no expert on movesets by any means:

Charizard: I'd say Seismic Toss will be better than Dragon Rage as you progress in the game, but I personally would go for another attacking move like Earthquake or Slash, and if you go with EQ, Metal Claw may not be very useful, so maybe replace it with something like Double Team, Rest, Rock Slide, Blast Burn , etc.

Raichu: I'd keep Thunder Wave just because it's a good helper move and you can't always count on the opponent getting Paralyzed by Static when you want it to. I don't know how much you need Quick Attack on Raichu, and I've never actually found a reason for Mega Punch when Body Slam is an option. So maybe replace Quick Attack and Mega Punch with Body Slam and umm...maybe Hidden Power if you're lucky enough to get a powerful Grass, Ice, or Water type one.

Primeape: Cross Chop or Brick Break over Karate Chop. Rock Slide might be nice to cover the Flying weakness. Then some other physical attacks like Return, Body Slam, maybe Aerial Ace, etc could be thrown into the mix.

Golbat: I'd say it needs Poison Fang or Sludge Bomb over Bite. I like Poison Fang since it induces Toxic and not just Poison, but Sludge Bomb's got the benefit of 90 base power. Of course, evolving to Crobat once you get National Dex will help too ^_^

Starmie: Surf, Recover, Psychic, Ice Beam maybe?

Venomoth: Psychic over Psybeam once you get to level 41 w/ Venonat, unless you want to use the TM. Also, I'd say Silver Wind (Using the move re-learner or whatever he's called) over Gust since it gets STAB and should be able to put a nice big dent in Psychic types.


Overall I say try to cover weakness to some extent and have a variety of attacking moves with a few good helpers. Now, if you want a team for more challenging in-game battles (battle tower or what not), then you'd prob was to use breeding to pass down attacks, but I assumed you just wanted to improve your team for the main story-line (so no breeding).

It was a Physical Sweeper set. One which you repeated.

curselax isn't a sweeper, it's a tank. it just happens to do a lot of damage. but the whole point is that it sits there and takes as many special hits as it wants (thanks to 160/110 HP/SDef) and curse boosts its defense until it can't be killed with physical moves either.

it's like using a CMClops that can actually do damage.

The only difference was the nature. Put Adamant if you want the best Atk power, and Careful if you want better Sp Def. I agree that Curselax is a Tank, so Careful would be the best nature most of the time.
