• Hi all
Just a notice, we recently discovered that someone got into a moderator account and started hard deleting a load of key and legacy threads...around 150 threads have been lost dating back to 2007 and some weeks ago so we can't roll the forums back.
Luckily no personal data could be accessed by this moderator, and we've altered the permissions so hard deleting isn't possible in the future
Sorry for any inconvenience with this and sorry for any lost posts.

Wow. I'd like to see that.

What, the list? The Cardcaptor Sakura dub was pretty awful, and La Blue Girl's is sadly poor as well-- but that's a hentai and the Japanese voices are pretty bad too. Then there was some show that was on Cartoon Network, some battle monsters show. I don't remember what it was but the dub was really unbearable.

That's all I can think of right now. There are lots more shows where I prefer the Japanese, but the English dubs are still bearable if it comes down to it.

I was just making a petty stab at the notion of "watching" any sort of dub.

You just don't like English dubs in general, then? Just making sure I understand what you're saying before I say anything else. XD

No, just pointing out that you can't watching English dubs -- you listen to them, anyway.

Anyway, I have an inclination to listen to films and television series in their original language, though I do enjoy and even prefer a few anime series in English.

Speaking as someone who defends dubs, I can see the point there. With any adaptation, you're always going to be missing something from the original. This is obvious with Japanese wordplay.

Cowboy Bebop is the obvious choice for preference, though, mirite?

Ahh. Haha. But you know what I mean. ;) Glad I asked, I took it at first from your post that you disliked dubs.

I mostly like to watch the dubbed, but It depends on how bad the voice actors are on the dubbed.;196;

I guess, though that might stem from the fact that it was one of my earliest exposures to anime -- sentimental attachment, y'know.

Probably will give the original Japanese dub a go for whenever I re-watch it again.

I think both are pretty good. I don't really care for Cowboy Bebop (heresy, I know), but when I watch, it's usually in English. My favorite episodes are the humorous filler ones anyway, and I think the English actors shine best in those.

Edit: I don't exactly like dubs. Perhaps modern day dubs, like Funimation and Viz. ^_^ Just after seeing some of my favorite shows become butchered, I have a small prejudice against dubs. I despise 4Kids, and I can not even stand what Dic did to Sailor Moon, for example. These days, I really don't have a problem with dubs, I'd check one out to see how it is, but I'd still probably choose a sub, it's just one of those things.

Good ol no sub, no dub. I like hearing japanese without captions even though i cannot understand it.

That's not sub, but anyway...

Yes I heart you.

I do not watch Japanese anime if it has subtitles. I cannot stand them.

Either way, I do not understand much Japanese, but it only takes half a mind to understand what is going on.

Some people just prefer watching a show in its original language. Don't know why one couldn't stand subtitles though, but... yeah.

Don't know why one would hate dubbed anime in general either, considering there are much more anime that are barely edited (if at all) than there are very edited anime...

EDIT: Okay, I only posted now to make 100,000 posts in this section, but... what I have to say is still what I believe.

I HATE dubbed anime in general. My only exception to that are the good dubs brought out by Funimation. ^_^

I despise 4Kids, and I can not even stand what Dic did to Sailor Moon. :/ Overall though, I would always choose the original over a dub.

Normally I'd be breathing fire at this point, but I just remembered it's one of the better members I'm dealing with. Honestly dude, with the exception of stuff handled by 4Kids, all dubs nowadays are faithful to the original and handled carefully, probably because it makes more economic sense to do so.

So you hate dubbed anime because of two blacksheep companies?

well, idk, i like to watch subs, because i guess i can learn something from it. and i always like to see the original thing, so i choose subs.

dubs are good, i wouldn't mind watching both.

I kinda like both. I mean some are just to painful and stupid to watch! Like Apparently Arbok evolves into Seviper and Rice Balls are jelly filled doughnuts. Like and the uneccesary edits too. Replaceing shot guns with pop guns or super soakers.... I like some dubbs like Bleach for example and Bo-Bo-Bo. And I watched Lucky Star a few times LOL. But yeah original voices are nice but I wanna watch TV not read hahah.

Definitely subbed. Usually when an anime gets translated, such as Sailor Moon, they screw it all up. The voices sound bad, the translation is usually different, things are edited, etc. I'd rather watch the original with subs at the bottom.

Thank you. :D Yes, I know. That is why I added in Funimation. Must dubs are fine these days. I'll explain more below.

Sorry, I should have worded myself better. I should have explained how I don't exaclty have a problem with modern day dubs, but after the way anime got butchered originally has just left a bad taste in my mouth. To make things clear, I do NOT hate all dubs. Just after a few bad experiences, I just hold a slight prejudice.

There was a child here. They're gone now.
Personally, I'm a dub person with exceptions. Though I'm weird and like reading subtitles EVEN IF IT IS IN ENGLISH, I dunno, I just prefer dubs over subs. Occasionally I'll watch a sub on a show where I prefer dubs, but usually I only watch subs if it's a good series that hasn't been dubbed yet.

Congratulations. You used an anime dub that originally came to the US on syndicated television during the mid-90s as an example, when anime of today is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from what it was in the 90s.

Try again.

I prefer dubs over subs but I watch both. It depends on the anime.
