Slowpoking like mad here, but by god it's news to me.
Director Hitoshi Iwamoto is adapting the MW suspense work from manga pioneer Osamu Tezuka (Astro Boy, Black Jack, Metropolis) into a live-action film for 2009. CinemaToday.jp has posted images of the two main actors Hiroshi Tamaki (live-action Nodame Cantabile's Shinichi Chiaki) as the protagonist Michio Y?ki and Takayuki Yamada (Densha Otoko film's Train Man) as the priest Garai. In Tezuka's surprisingly dark story, Y?ki survived a deadly nerve gas tragedy as a child, but this "MW" incident left his damaged brain without a conscience. Y?ki grows up to become a handsome bank executive by day, and a mass murderer by night. On top of that, Y?ki aims to acquire the MW nerve gas, which leaves his longtime confidante Garai struggling with the right decision.

Tetsuya Oishi and Haruo Kimura of the live-action Death Note films have written the film script. Shogakukan's Big Comic magazine serialized the manga in Japan from 1976 to 1978. Vertical publishes MW in the United States, where the manga has been nominated this year for an Eisner Award in the Best U.S. Edition of International Material—Japan category.

Relatively unexpected, since I was under the impression that MW was one of Tezuka's more obscure works, even in Japan. As for the casting, Yuki looks spot on but something just seems off about Father Garai.

Also the teaser trailer has been released but apparently they took the term a bit literally resulting in... well... something relatively annoying.
