i agree, and i always thought he was until i trained one. i find it really odd that he is the flying type, but it DOES make him easier to beat in the E4!

Moving to GPD since this isn't gameplay-related...though I'm fairly sure this discussion came up not too long ago.

I think it should be Water/Dragon as well. If it had Physical STAb i would mind it being water/Flying

Water/dragon, very resistant to attacks, but Gyrados is kind of use to being a physical sweeper. Water/Flying would better.

I one time try an unpredictable one like a special sweeper, Water/Dragon can be useful for that but needs a couple of sp. atk support.

AGAIN with the water/dragon thing. This has come up so many times.

Meh, someone else'll explain the whole thing in (frustrated) detail. I'm more needed at the debate threads.

Splendid, kids.

Gyarados is Water/Flying because it and Magikarp are based on an Oriental myth. In it, the karp (Magikarp) swims up a waterfall with all its strength and courage. Once that it reaches the top of the waterfall, the Gods reward its effort by turning it into a majestic, flying serpent (Gyarados). Although Gyarados doesn´t actually fly, it was done to stay true to the myth.

I agree with everyone who said he could be better off water/dragon.

But, he is a handy pokemon, since he can learn electric attacks.

Ack! not this again. Hwy do ppl keep being this non-sence up? alot of pokemon are based on myth and culture. so stop whining already. beside his strong enough, if he was water/dragon then he might as well be a legendary.

He can't be water/dragon. In the rby days. There was no dragon attack that wasn't predetermined attack power. That would make garydos the best pokemon in the game. Destroying the use of mewtwo, and inevitibly disrupting the space time continium.

Exactly what vycksta said in the other thread
*whistles innocently*

Seriously though, Cenodoxus typed exactly what I was going to put. Gyarados is Water/Flying because of that myth, will always be Water/Flying and will never be Water/Dragon. So how about you all get over it?

I swear my faith in SPPf's intelligence slips by the day -_- Seriously people, are you so underinformed that you don't recognize a basic legend when you see it?

Thank you Cenodoxus for explaining it, and thank you for Emerald_Xavier, marioguy(though he did bring up a different point), Vycksta, and feebas_factor for being the only people who actually contributed something halfway worthwhile to the Thread(and TRJessie579, to an extent).

Cenodoxus, thank you for finally making me understand WHY Gyarados was made Water/Flying. Indeed a majestic, splendid Water Serpent, even though not Flying. ^.====.^

That just doesn't make sense. I mean, he should definetly be Dragon, because Lance has him, and Lance's team is a Dragon team.
