Looking at getting into the Animé...

...but I really don't know where to start! ^^;

I've seen a few of the first series - watched them when I was younger and Pokemon was all the rage. But ever since they moved off terrestrial TV, I've not watched any.

I'm in the UK and don't have Sky (got Freeview, but not Sky. :p) so I don't really have the ability to watch the new episodes. There's bitorrent, but my ISP is playing up at the minute so speeds are ridiculous (3 kb/s? No thanks...¬_¬)

Does anyone have any recommendations on where in the animé to start?

Thanks. :)

Yeah, ok!
If you're looking to start again, I recommend the beginning of Pokemon Advanced, with "Get the Show on the road."

In Japan, AG is the series when it was revamped and "rebooted" for a new generation. An older, more experienced Ash continues his quest. Ash starts off with only Pikachu, a nice contrast to the original series. New faces such as May and Max are developed over the course of the series, as well as returning ones like Brock and Team Rocket.

AG essentially is a fresh start, and that's the best place to begin.

As far as I'm aware, the only way you'll be able to get your hands on a few pokémon episodes over here is by having access to the Sky channel 'Toonami'. They currently air the first three 'seasons' of the show, as well as season 8, Advanced Battle.
Cartoon Network (which is on freeveiw, correct?) also aired more recent episodes of the series a few months back, but have apparantly decided to keep the series glued to Toonami. but they're rather unpredictable with the programs they air, so it might be worth looking out for any developments there.

There were VHS tapes of the first series produced, but the last I saw of them was way back in 2000 in a bargin bin. And even then they didn't actually get any further than the episode 'Primeape goes Bananas!'
So unless you're willing to sniff out some cash to splash on a few Sky channels, you're kind of stuck I'm afraid. Unless of course, you get your internet connection souped up :p

Ah, thanks you two. ^_^

Will try and start with Advance Generation, since I like the idea of a 'fresh start'.

A friend of mine records all the episodes he sees to DVD, so I'll see if he has any. If not I'll got for...er...'other means'. *cough*. ;)

Thank you, SPPf! :)
The first half of AG is also available on DVD, for the record. Check the main site for info on those.

Ag is good and all but I would see the original Kanto episodes and the Johto league (only Johto league not the saga) before watching Advanced.

Yeah, he's right. It's better to learn how things came together before watching the later stuff. Kanto is what made Johto and AG.

Sorry for the bump. ^^;

Just thought I'd say thanks to you all for the suggestions on where to start.

I decided that, since I'd seen a lot of the Indigo League stuff, I'd start with Johto League Champions. Loving it so far, and seen a ton of eps - just finished watching Type Casting. ^_^

Yeah, I'd recommend you start from there all the way to the end of Master Quest (even though the fillers are subpar). Because you'll get a better set up to why Ash is in Houen in AG and why he's alone, etc.

Just remember to forgo the quality dip that some think has occurred in the Johto series if you decide to watch them all. ;025;
