These two games are considered the two best games ever made. They may be a bit overrated, like it or not, but almost everyone know about these games. Now, which one do you think gave a better gaming experience?

Now that I've finished Final Fantasy VII earlier this week, I can make a decision. Since I love RPGs, I say that I liked FFVII better. It was longer (mainly because the Playstation discs allowed it), intriguing, and I felt closer to the characters on FFVII than I did to Link on LoZ:OoT. I'd never thought I'd say it, but I finally like a Playstation game better than a Nintendo one (yes, I'm a Nintendo fanboy).

I change my mind on this monthly about, but at THIS point in time, (ask again next week...) I would say OoT. These are the two best ever (they are, deal with it wolf, FF VII is not overrated) with FF VI not far behind. But OoT was about as close to perfection as you could be, FF VII does have a few problems, so I would say that Orcorina of Time was the best game ever, followed VERY closely by FF VII and than somewhat close to FF VI, with FF IX being a distant fourth.

Well, I never really finished OoT and I only played a bit of FFVII but I can saftly say that OoT wins hands down. FFVII had guns AND swords. It makes no sense. Why have a whopper of a sword only when the guy next to you has an arm gun and could shoot you a mile off? I just didn't get it. FFIX was perfect for me as it was a sort of medievil theme and that's what RPGs should be for me. OoT had a nice theme with swords bows and magic ect and NO GUNS. I also like the time traveling thing, it's a nice little attraction.

^THIS is the dumbest reason people give for not liking FF IV-VIII Because it has guns. You are playing a game called Final FANTASY. Is it so hard to believe that guns and swords can coexist in these games, give me a break. By the way, an archer will own a swordman too in real life.

No idea what I feel
Final Fantasy VII is the best game ever! It beats the Legand Of Zelda hands down. FFVII was one of the first games I ever completed and I love everything that was put into it. The storyline of the game is amazing, the FMV's are stunning, the battle system is excellent & the Materia system is one of the best too.

Legand Of Zelda is good, don't get me wrong but I've been a die-hard FF fan since 1997 as that was when I started gaming. I've never finished OoT as I played on the Wind Waker more as I own OoT on the Gamecube which is on the bonus disk that I got with the 'cube. That was about 2 years ago now.

So Final Fantasy VII gets my vote, hands down!

Braaiiiiiinss......
Final Fantasy VII: Fast combat, 55+ hours, multiple subgames, great story, three characters to control during a battle, airship and chocobos, better control, good sound effects, less forgettable music, Materia, Sephiroth, 100+ enemies and bosses, Cloud, level-gaining by battling, maximum amount of Gil: almost endless, unpredictable and exciting levels.

Ocarina of Time: Combat speed varies, 20+ hours, some subgames, recycled story, one character, horse and ocarina, good control, better sound effects, good, yet forgettable music, gadgets to play with, Ganondorf, 20+ enemies and bosses, Link, status-building by doing other things, maximum amount of Rupees: 99, 200, 500, some levels hard and boring to beat.

Hypothesis: Ocarina of Time is so overrated. FFVII gets my vote, also.

I'm a true Final Fabtasy fan. I do like Zelda, but Final Fantasy prooves more of a challenge for me. The plots are deeper than that of Zelda in my oppinion, and Final Fantasy VII's plot was by far the best I have come across so far, it made me think hard of Cloud's past and what not. But yes, Final Fantasy VII gets my vote, though I love them both, FF simply takes the cake.

Traditional RPG's like FF will always be preferred overall, by spending so much extra time on a game that's much much more character driven, your always going to become attached to the characters and that's one of the most powerful devices a developer can use. You'll never get as attached to Link as you do with Cloud because he doesn't speak and therfore you can't associate at all with him.

Overall IMO OOT was the better game but FF was more like an epic movie, the story pulls it from an average RPG to what is considered one of the best games of all time. Didn't like Cloud though, bit of a ****.

Both games are overrated, Ocarina because it was one of the first of the classics to make a major leap from 2D-3D, it invented half the concepts you see in modern day clones. Final Fantasy was hyped up partly because rated so highly and no one dared to say otherwise, and it was the first major story driven RPG with graphics that people could associate with because of it being in 3D

While I think both are bloody overrated... I'll go with Ocarina of Time. It kept the essence of the franchise perfectly, and was a quite good adventure for the most part. I could say it's my second favorite of the Zelda series, even.. My only gripe with it was the fact that it pretty much took A Link to the Past's plot, disguised it, changed "Dark World" with "Future", and there we have it... but it's not a bad game by all means. I think that it's the ONLY one worthy of the praise it gets when it comes to those two...

Final Fantasy 7 was good. There's no denying it. But it was the beginning of the downfall. Good plot overriden with cliché characters. The dawn of "Angsty Final Fantasy" filled with hormonal teens and the protectors/badasses we see in every game since then, save FFIX. Besides that, it was the dawn of over-customization systems that killed what made the franchise so special: the variety of classes and abilities shared only by some characters. While FFIII and FFV also allowed over-customization, it made you experience the virtues of a class, and having all-capable characters was a certainly hard effort. FFVII Not only allowed to that since the very beginning, but it also made it bloody easy to have powerhouses able to do anything they wanted. Still, it's my favorite system of the last 3 (FFIX doesn't counts because it was a combination of the class system and the skill system. Which was superb, by the way...).

They're both great games, albeit overly gloryfied. Still, I'd say Ocarina of Time was better...

Well I'm sorry you feel that way but I hated FFVII for that reason. A Fantasy to me should have knights off to fight dragons and save princesses ect using only swords, sheild and bows. Guns just seem like the cheap option to me. Putting guns into the mix was just such a big change in FF (I played FFIX first) that it just didn't/doesn't seem right. There are amny other reasons why I dislike FFVII but this is just the strongest pet-hate I have about it.

... Personally I think both games are overrated, the only thing remotely revolutionary about FFVII was that it was one of the first epic RPGs OF ITS TIME. Which means that later, there would be better RPGs that would come in the future. Both games do have polygonal graphics but at this time and age I think it's pointless comparing graphics, and that it would be better to compare by gameplay and storyline. I've actually beaten FFVII whereas I've only done a bit of play on OoT in a friend's place and judging by that makes my vote a bit biased, but, it was easier for me to connect with FFVII's storyline. Seeing as I'm an RPG buff. ;P FFVII did have an exceptionally deep storyline but what made me not really like it so much was the amount of hype that was given for it, to me it's just a decent Final Fantasy RPG, personally I enjoyed playing FFVI, FFV, FFVIII and FFXI more! But that's my opinion. It goes really really close, but with the more platforming-attuned elements of OoT, I feel that I'd prefer FF over. But OoT is a pretty awesome game. I just feel that FFVII doesn't deserve the hype that it gets in 2005 and 2006.

FFVII and OoT are both gaming gems though, don't get me wrong here!

ZELDA!! Ocarina of Time is one of the best video games ever made! Nothing compares.

They both are. That is why we have this subject here. To say nothing compares is a bit off though, it is great and all, but lots of games (in addition to VII) at least can compare to its greatness.

Ah, Final Fanasty 7. The story, while reused, did a better job of appearing fresh. You couldn't just take out Cloud and co. and have the same story. Poor Link could have been any swordguy out to save the world for most of the game.
Although I realize that Link's inabillity to speak and express himself is a creative decision. To make you feel like you're in charge and make the decisions and such.

Now you see me...
and I felt closer to the characters on FFVII than I did to Link on LoZ:OoT.

Personally, that shouldn't be surprising at all - for anyone. OoT had little character development; FF VII did. There's a big difference, you grow attached to characters by getting to know them. I could tell you a lot about each character from VII and their personalities, but little but the bare basics from OoT.

OoT only had good graphics and fun dungeons and fighting stuff which made the game fun (Oh, that and Epona. Riding=fun). But nothing in the way of character development, really.

This is why I say I liked FF VII better. It actually had character development, a better plot, and a lot of other things, even if it did lack graphics wise. (Though it was very good for its time.)

It is extremely difficult to compare an extremely good platformer with an extremely good RPG. RPGs are MEANT to have character development, storyline, system and all that. A platformer could simply just have a storyline and system, but not much in the lines of characterization, unless a lot of effort was put in to it, therefore, it is merely preference... ;/

My choice would be Final Fantasy VII. The first game I played was Oot and it was awesome! I think I finished it about 20 times with the sidequests. But the music was sort of boring. I just got FFVII. And it already took the place of Oot. Who wouldn't forget One-Winged Angel? Plus the side-quests were even more fun. I think the guns are a good idea. Instead of the old slay the dragon with sword, You could shoot down the dragon with a gun. Vincet is way more cooler than Link in my opinion.

People often say Ocarina is the better game IF you played it before Wind Waker, whereas Final Fantasy VII is good all round.
I voted for Ocarina, because I'm a die-hard Zelda fan.
