Hi, ok this is going to sound extremely noobish but is it possible to catch lugia without a masterball because i have got it down to 1 health paralysed and thrown about 8 ultra balls at it. Is it possible or is my game just screwed,

Meh, I caught it on my first try.

As many will say, it's just luck, but any Pokemon in existance is possible to obtain without a Masterball. The Masterball is just a way of cheaping out the battle.

Sometimes you need to throw more than just eight ultra balls, try changing the balls you are using, i always seemed to catch the legendaries with 1 great ball after throwing 10 or so ultra balls at them, just keep trying.

ok kool i ll keep trying

I have every Pokemon 386 (including Legit Celebi) currently residing in a Pokeball. I have caught both Ho-oh and Lugia second generation in a Pokeball before (though those are level 40) I have yet to capture Mewtwo in one though (first gen anyway, I have him third)
It could take upwards of 50 ultraballs to capture Lugia, than again, you can throw one Pokeball and get lucky on the first shot, you just never know it is all luck.

so its just extreme luck to catch a lvl 70 lugia without a master ball?

Well, from what I can tell, Mewtwo (on 1st and 3rd) is BY FAR the hardest to capture in a Pokeball, he just will not stay in, I have thrown 99 before at him with 1 health (just a sliver on RBY, since there is no way to know one health) and asleep, and he JUST WON'T STAY IN. Ray seems to be next up, than Ho-oh, than Lugia. Lugia was harder to capture in second generation though. I guess the answer would be it is not extreme luck, if he is at one hp and prz/slp, and you throw 20-30 Ultra balls, I don't see him breaking out of all of them. It might cost a pretty penny to bring him home, but than again he is far and away the best second generation Pokemon, so he is worth it. Save the Masterball for one of the beast's. It is extreme luck to capture a legendary without any damage or status effects with anything less than a Masterball, but it can happen. (My Moltress on my first FR playthough, I just used a great ball for fun at the very start, he stayed in) Just keep trying, you should get him soon.

of course you can! My friend caught Rayquaza with a pokeball. In the corner of the stats it shows you what pokeball he is in and it shows the pokeball. I caught a Mewtwo in an ultra ball on my tenth time. The masterball, I suggest, to use on Raikou/Suicune/Entei. With Lugia, if you run out of pokeballs, then you can turn off the game and restart.(you shoud save before every battle with a legendary)

Dude, it's hard but don't give up, I caught my Lugia with a Pokeball after 15 Ultras, several specialty balls and 5 greats! so they're just a pain in the butt, not impossible!

You just have to have patience. It takes me 'bout 30-40 Ultra Balls to catch legendaries.

For some reason, Pokeballs have been shown to have a little higher catching rate when used on Legendaries. You'd be suprised, I caught all the Regi's with pokeballs
